Not bad with AAA's as you can use while on holiday and easily source new ones. But 'yes' would be better with 18605's but would cost more.

I've used this for fishing....not a bad light, cheap and cheerful along side a row of batteries from poundland.

Does eat batteries, but no reason why you can't use rechargeables.
