£16 for a plastic button...wow. I mean, it's better than full price, but still...

Thats one way to look at it. And rather missing the point.

The other way is that is is a button that is very well made, feels great to handle and has withstood being dropped, thrown, painted on and pressed several times by my little ones and still looks new 18 months later. It communicates with the Hue hub perfectly and siwtches my lights, cycles through scenes and works as a pretty nifty dimmer. All while being branded, having a warranty, mounting backplate and mounting disc and moveable from room to room.

I have tried several alternatives including the £25 Flic buttons and they were absolutely useless. Personally I think that is pretty good value for a versatile smart switch.

What is the difference between this and the hue switch?
    woodywoodwood's avatar
The Hue switch is definitely more convenient having 4 buttons v’s 1 and has the ability to switch through scenes at any time of day.

I have a couple of each and prefer the switch.

While Hue is expensive, you get what you pay for with smart lighting, I have some zigbee strip lights outside as hue dont make anything suitable and they play up from time to time, my hue lights just work without problems.

Better still is the shortcut app on the iPhone it’s always in hand and easily accessible.

Well it's not better, it's just a reasonable alternative

Ikea has a new range of Zigbee buttons - much cheaper.

Cheaper indeed, not as reliable though. Had a few die on me while I havent had a single Hue issue so far. Ikea colours are not as good as Hue, they dont dim as low as hue and I had some real coil whine from some of the Ikea bulbs. Noticeable in the reading lamp next you, not so much in ceiling lamps.

Never ever show any children that this can be removed from its wall mount.

Do you have to press it or is it really smart ?
    indyjukebox's avatar
No you just look at it and it makes you a a sandwich.

Any one use these with home assistant using a zigabee bridge instead of a hue hub? Any good ideas for use? Not sure I can justify! Have added Shelly switches behind outdoor light switches already ....

Ordered from yesterday’s deal at £15.99

Do you def need the Hue Hub for this? I thought some have limited functionality without the hub now?
    Popeye_the_Sailor's avatar
    Yes you do

I invested in TAPO Lights and switches. Not using yet.

Will be nice to to have sensors, cameras and lights on the same App.

I started off with Kasa/Tapo, dabbled in Lifx and Yee and ended up with Hue eventually. Hue is the most expensive and not terribly flexible. But it is by far the most reliable setup I have used. Nothing comes close to Hue's reliability. Setup and truly forget. I have only recently had to mess with my Hue setup because I decided to upgrade to the Tap dial switches.

Interesting discussion... I just shout at alexa to do the lights for me...

Useless product. Bought it some time ago. You can only program single action like "turn on" it should allow to press again to turn off but not possible.
    Jonwillis's avatar
That was my issue years ago, so I packed it away. I need it to turn the lights on then turn off if no motion detected. I believe you need to go down a custom routine or 3rd party app.
