Is this any good for use with NVME to USB C enclosure? I'm looking to build external storage with M.2 SSD foe their faster speed.

You'd have to remove the heatsink, doing so will void the warranty.
Going gen4 is pointless in an enclosure unless you have USB4/TB4.

This Kioxia 1TB is only a couple £ more and would be fine -

If you really only need 500GB they do a 500GB version -

Or this SP for £20 is ideal -

Ouch, I paid £105.46 for this in 2021. (edited)

You got to use it for 2 years though and nobody can purchase time, you can use your time more efficiently. So that was the price you paid to be able to have usage of the drive. Regret mistakes and learn from them, the price you paid would have been the market price so yeah no regrets.

Nice price if you're looking for extreme speeds.

Not sure if this has NAND on both side but my 500GB one from 2021 had NAND on both sides and this became problematic when I took the heatsink off to put in a laptop. Mine was the MP600 but this is revision 2 as the name MP600R2 implies. (edited)

Would this fit in the PS5 ok? the heatsink looks kinda large...

mine came today, can confirm its too big the metal cover wont go back on for me

Speed of that drive is not close to recommended for PS5, personally would not buy it for PS5, especially when there are lots great deals on faster drives lately.

These are now essentially worthless for retail due to the low capacity. Once high-end speed specs, but with now very low end capacity.

For us punters, a fun part for someone trying to build a very good but very cheap system for a younger gamer.

    £29 for a 500GB gen4 with heatsink.
    vs
    £42'ish for a 1TB gen4 with heatsink.

If you are sure you really don't need more than 500GB, it's not too bad.
PC/laptop owners may be better off going for a cheaper gen3 drive and buying a seperate heatsink if they need one.

is this the cheapest nvme drive for a pc build?

just looking for one with dram cache tp install windows on. 500gb to 1tb should do.

no free delivery that's a bummer (edited)

For 1TB the Samsung 970 Evo Plus for around £45 would be a good option (if you don't need the gen4 speeds for large file transfers).
    EDIT:
Actually the price for that went up to £50 today, it's not worth that.

Or the 1TB Kioxia Exceria for £36, also has DRAM cache but slower sequential speeds than the Samsung (again, matters for transferring large files). (edited)

    does this have dram cache?

i heard its useful if being used as the OS storage drive
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
No DRAM on this one, the MP600 Pro is the one with DRAM.
