”This Denon AVR is a force to be reckoned with.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2022 award-winner.

Your choice of 9-channel surround sound
With no fewer than nine powered channels, the Denon AVC-X3800H gives you a wide choice of speaker configurations. Choose between 7.4.2 or 5.4.4 Dolby Atmos speaker configurations with two or four ceiling speakers. Alternatively, stick with 5.4.2 and power a second pair of speakers in another room or bi-amp your main pair of speakers. As your system grows, so the capability of this Denon AVC grows with it.

Upgrade to 11-channel surround
Add an extra stereo power amp and the Denon lets you configure four ceiling or Atmos-enabled speakers as well as full 7-channel surround sound. Alternatively, use two Atmos speakers and enjoy a broad soundstage with 'front wide speakers' forming a 9.2.2 system. If you don't fancy a Dolby Atmos specific system but want the most immersive sound possible, go for an 11.2 configuration. This offers 7.2 sound with the addition of front width and front height speakers.

Connect up to four subwoofers for balanced bass around the room
For the best-balanced bass, the AVX-X3800H has four passive subwoofer outputs. This lets you place a subwoofer in each corner of the room, giving a smooth, even bass response. With four bass channels, you can also use smaller subwoofers. This gives you a tighter, punchier bass whilst not losing out on any bass weight and depth.

Your choice of immersive 3D sound
Whatever speaker configuration you decide upon, the AVC-X3800H has a surround format to suit. Compatible formats include Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization Technology, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:X, IMAX Enhanced, Auro-3D and Auro-Matic upmixing. This huge range of options means you can adapt your surround sound speaker system from the simplest system with ‘virtual height’ speakers to full-blown 11.4 systems that truly bring the cinema home.

Unique Dirac Live set-up – coming soon*
For the very best sound in your room, Denon is set to offer powerful room correcting technology from Dirac Research. This uses a microphone and dedicated software to take multiple readings around your room and feed the information back to the amplifier for a completely bespoke response (professional set-up recommended).

*Due 2023. Requires additional payment.

Audyssey MultEQ XT32 for simple room set-up
Featuring Audyssey's high-end MultEQ XT32 technology, the AVC-X3800H adapts itself to your room's acoustics. The XT32 version of this automatic measuring and set-up device features include Audyssey Dynamic Volume, Dynamic EQ, LFC and SubEQ HT for total control. If you want to take this even further, purchase the MultEQ Editor App (at additional cost) and you've access to advanced user settings.

Dual speaker preset memory
For sound tailored to your content, you can store two speaker and Audyssey settings and switch between them. Ideal for switching between a ‘gaming’ and ‘movie’ set-up, for example, the presets include Amp Assign, Speaker Config, Distances, Levels, Crossovers, Bass, Front Speaker, 2ch Playback and Graphic EQ (when Audyssey is not used).

8K, HDCP 2.3 full HDMI interface
Upgrading on previous AVCX3000-series amps, the X3800 now features a complete 8K compatible HDMI interface. Whereas just a single HDMI input was 8K compatible, now all six inputs are 8K ready. Two of the three outputs are 8K compatible, too. They support 8K pass-through, 4K/120Hz and 8K upscaling of 4K content, too. The X3800 also supports the latest copy protection standard, HDCP 2.3.

Wide-ranging HDR support
The AVC-X3800H also supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range video formats. These include Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. It also supports HDR10+, which enhances picture realism by sending dynamic Meta data to your TV, as well as Dynamic HDR. In short, whatever the format used by the film, game or stream, the Denon supports it.

Brilliant for gamers
The enhanced HDMI interface makes this Denon AV amp the perfect choice for gaming. All HDMI inputs support 4K/120Hz and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) for the best resolution and clarity. Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) help eliminate lag and frame tearing, giving you a smoother, more responsive gaming experience.

HEOS built-in - for the finest multi-room audio
HEOS multi-room music systems connect together by dual-band Wi-Fi, making them easy to set up with your existing home network. Up to 32 HEOS units can be set up at one time, ensuring even the largest of homes are covered for multi-room music. With HEOS already built-in, the AVC-X3800H is ready to go as a single 'zone' without any further adaptors.

Control it all with the HEOS app
Once you've set up your HEOS speaker system, you can stream music effortlessly via the dedicated HEOS app. Available for Apple iOS and Android, the app not only lets you stream your stored music but also Internet radio services and popular streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Napster and Deezer.

Use with your choice of voice assistant
Compatible with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, the AVC-X3800H works with your voice assistant of choice. For Alexa or Google Assistant control, simply download the HEOS app. Pair your Echo device if you’re using Alexa and you’re good to go – adjust the volume, skip to the next track and switch inputs simply by asking Alexa or Google. For control via Siri, simply link the amp via Apple AirPlay 2 and enjoy voice interaction and AirPlay 2 multi-room support.

Maximise all your content's audio, with the Denon AVC-X3800H.

I got the AVR S760h last November really good unit, does pretty much everything you'd want it to!

will have to keep this in mind when I manage to get back into my own house after I hopefully get the work completed.

have had a Sony for years since my HK AVR 5500 give up the ghost about 10 to 12 years ago, the Sony was meant to be a stop gap .....:(

I got this when it launched, great AVR. While the price of this model in the range has gone up in price significantly, you’ve also got to remember the features typically offered at this model has gone up. It’s actually considered a good buy.

I think as AVRs have become more niche due to the evolution of all in one soundbar kits, AVRs will be more going forward. Even once inflation finally is under control

Exactly, if you line it up V it's direct rivals - Marantz, Oppo, Yamaha the Denon is the best price by far. I really did want to go for the Marantz but then I couldn't get the Pansonic 9000 UHD player. Now I've got the 9000 & Denon, definitely made the right choice. Think you're right AVRs are becoming more for enthusiasts. You're also right on the feature set, you would never get an amp with the feature set of 3800 5 years ago at £1199, particularly Dirac support which really is for the enthusiast. I'll be buying soon. For now went with amp calibration and then bought the Denon audyssey MultiEQ app which made a huge difference.

Sony should be launching their new range of amps (finally!)... As tempted as I am with this, I'm going to wait till their retail prices are confirmed 🏽

I currently have a Sony STR-DN1040, not impressed by how the network card inside died a few years ago. The Sony was never as good as the Onkyo that it replaced (under RC warranty) when the HDMI ports on it stopped working!
  4. Aerobiz's avatar
It sucks they stopped putting component on receivers, great for some older consoles - better than HDMI adapters or converters.

    The 4800H does.....

...but it's almost double the price...

That was the 4000 series, this is the 3000 series.

I exactly see this going to below £1000.

The prolong cost of living cost is going to hit premium products hard sales wise.

Product is still good, I'm just saying, I'm going to wait it out. (edited)
    Grogu's avatar
Ah sorry didn't see was 4 series, wow £700!

I mean you're right about cost of living / potential recession hitting volumes.

I'd love to know what the margins are on AV amps, most of the components are designed in by default cycle to cycle so it's just other stuff DAC, HDMI etc - I reckon they make a healthy margin, if so then definitely scope for big sales

Thanks for posting this OP. Tempted as an 'upgrade' from my x4300h.

Finally pulled the trigger. Replacing LG SN11RG Soundbar. I couldn't stand the lack of bass in that overpriced soundbar. Can't wait for my system to arrive

You won't be disappointed. Worth getting the audyssey app MultEQ for £20 for loads more tuning options!

Can't get excited about this when not so long back the end of season versions of these were £500 or so.

wired ceiling for Atmos but really daft price here
  11. bradford_dr's avatar
Damn, thought it was going to be a decent deal, but same price as everywhere else, plus some freebies I don't really need.... Useful if you want the headphones...

Need something with 4k120 on the hdmi, my onkyo 525 doesn't, and the audio lag running optical back from the tv while using the xbox, is driving me potty...

It's the best deal for this amp with the freebies, nobody can get close to it.

You can sell the freebies if you want to bring the price down further.
  12. b1g1an's avatar
Given you'd likely put decent speakers with this given the price, you'll almost certainly need a power amp for the front stage in a surround set up to get anything like the potential sound quality they can give. Quoted receiver power outputs are just marketing lies.
  13. Twojags's avatar
Have the AVR 4400H and its awsome.
  14. kaz_m's avatar
Any recommended speakers for this? Was thinking to buy this, unsure on the speakers to get a decent price
    Grogu's avatar
I've got Q acoustics 2020s and 2010s (rears) and bought sub separately. Got a BK Electronics 300SB PR. BK subs quality is probably the best bang for buck on the market. UK made.

Really you need to think about size of your room though. It's well worth calling up an independent retailer & getting advice, that's what I did.
  15. Shaftydude's avatar
I got a Denon AVRX4300H in 2017 for £700. Think prices will come down.
    Grogu's avatar
£700 even with modest 3% compound inflation is £850......it's well documented component prices have increased, I can't see this coming below 9-1000 for well over 12 months.

So I've just been told the Denon wireless speakers (as rears) aren't supported by this AVR? Anyone know any better?
    Type_R's avatar

Just spoke to Denon, the AVR does not support wireless speakers as rears

    This, or the x4700?

    For a 5.1.4 setup?

Yeah I ended up cancelling my original order with richer sounds, used the offer the following day, got the £75 back 3 days later. Richer sounds were great at cancelling and reordering!

Anyone tried Dirac on this yet, it was released about 2 weeks ago.
  20. Paul_Foster's avatar
Is this a worthy upgrade to my strdn1080? Will it be okay with my Monitor Audio Silver 300s plus matching surrounds?
    Jonwillis's avatar
I use this with MA 300 (6th gen) + C350, + FX surrounds, and 4x MA 265IDC ceiling speakers. Sounds great! Much better than my x2300.

In terms of "upgrade" though, you have to consider if you need that many speakers or support for things like HDMI 2.1 (4k @ 120hz) since it's those things you are paying for in newer AVRs. (edited)
