The destination

Marrakech, known as the "Red City" for its blush-colored buildings, is a vibrant metropolis blending traditional Moroccan culture with modern sophistication. Nestled at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, it is famous for its historic medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where winding alleys lead to bustling souks filled with spices, textiles, and artisanal crafts. Visitors can explore the majestic Bahia Palace, the tranquil Jardin Majorelle, and the iconic Koutoubia Mosque. The city's dynamic Jemaa el-Fnaa square comes alive at night with food stalls, musicians, and storytellers, offering an unforgettable sensory experience. Marrakech is a captivating destination that offers a rich tapestry of sights, sounds, and flavors.

Make sure to speak to your GP about injections.

I know 2 people who didnt take injections and came back very sick from Morroco. One had 6 months of continues diarrhea, other bladder issues...

Avoid drinking tap water, swimming in dirty pools etc

I have been to Morocco 10 times, and never had any stomach related issues.

You do have to be careful with buffet type food, even in the 5* hotels as it can be left out for a long time and then reheated.

Your advice about avoiding tap water is good.

If anyone is on a budget, there is a hotel in Marrakech we always stay - Islane Hotel - cannot beat the location or the breakfast view! Would highly recommend for a few nights

Food in Marrakech is some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Bloody cheap as well. Avoid salad though.

Same happened to me. Was in Marrakech 5 years ago. I spent the week sat on the toilet + fever and dehydration. All in all, I was so glad to be back home as soon as we landed in Manchester I was running for the toilet. Sadly I didn’t get to see much except the hotel toilet

I’ve recently returned from Tangier and had a buffet breakfast every morning. No ill effects were recorded. The only downside was the constant rip offs with taxis! Plus an expensive pot of my girlfriend’s eye cream was nicked by a cleaner.

What hotel did you stay in? I'm going to Tangier in 3 weeks.

I had been to Morroco last month. There are no issues with food. They cook fresh whether Tejenes or grilled Skewers etc. Of course, be careful what/where you eat.

We are going Morroco Monday, Shall i exchange here or over there ? Thinking £100-200 (edited)
    MIB15's avatar
Exchange over there, you will get a much better rate.

Do not use Global Exchange at Marrakech arrivals terminals, they are known to be rip-off merchants.

I usually exchange £20-£30 in the airport departures terminal (which is a 2 minute walk from the arrivals terminal) and then exchange the rest around Marrakech city, plenty of exchange bureaus and banks around.
