They did this years ago not through BLC and the accounts were all messed up I.e. meaning you were being charged for someone else's fuel and when you paid for yours someone else was footing the bill. The customer services was shocking. Personally I'll be avoiding this like the plague.
    Scrooge_McDuck's avatar
This is exactly why I am avoiding despite thpse on here who see it as no different to giving your card details to amazon

4p off for diesel, so basically the same price as supermarkets then….
    herrbz's avatar
Weirdly, oil company petrol stations have been far cheaper than the supermarkets lately. Places I would never normally fill up at are 10p/litre cheaper than Tesco etc near me

do they post you a card out please?

I was kind of expecting to show the card, get a discount and then pay with my card of choice. Thanks

I was a click away from signing up but thought 3p per litre isn’t worth giving some
third party access to my bank account
    Turret's avatar
They've existed since 2012. I don't think they're going to give your details over to some prince that pops up in their email inbox.

Got mine and was worth it but seems now that supermarkets are cheaper than Esso.

I used to work at BP and I can 100% guarantee that our fuel in our own petrol station was the EXACT same fuel that we sent to supermarkets.

Supermarkets make there's a bit cheaper to get more customers, whereas we could charge more because people believe our fuel was somehow superior.

Who do you think is supplying supermarkets? We deliver directly to them, at what stage do you think they are watering down our fuel
  7. scnickr's avatar
Just looked at my local prices on Petrol Prices app and even with 4p off for diesel, the Esso would still be more expensive

A previous "exclusive" deal for BLC members.
Another unchecked offer. I went through the link on my partner's card, and took an account in my name. They just want their commision, and as long as the bill isnpaid, they don't care. Now that I have a Costco account (and that was ridiculously easy) I don't use the FP account.

This deal (Wex) and Fuelpecker are only bunker cards, giving Joe Public the opportunity to buy at similar rates to those running fleets
  10. Eden0032's avatar
Couldn't see it on the BLC app but it appears to be legit. Did a bit of googling and businesses can apply for this card via the Esso website and this appears to be set up just for BLC members. I've applied and it was successful so will give it a go when it arrives.
  11. jonnypb's avatar
Even with those discounts applied the Esso petrol price is still more than normal BP and supermarket prices for many.

    Garages near me.

    Asda/Morrisons etc 169.7
    BP 170.9
    Esso 182.9 (edited)
    adamnewlove's avatar
Not for everyone. Unleaded near me
    Sainsburys £173.9
    Asda £173.7
    Esso £173.9
  12. LionelRichieFan's avatar
Sorry, is this a debit/credit card that autoloads from another card you own? I wouldn't wanna open what a credit agency would consider to be a new credit/debit account just for the sake of 3p a litre
    slliw's avatar
No, they just send you a card which comes with a PIN. From what I've read you top up your fuel, hand in the card at the till they validate by asking for your Esso pin, apply the discount and then you pay with your preferred method.
  13. Growl's avatar
Personally id only use Esso if desperate but you can use your Nectar points to get 5p off every litre of fuel when you swap 300 points.  (Which as everyone knows - Nectar points arent worth alot) - this offer is currently aimed at a select few who could save between 3p and 6p a litre depending if they buy regular or premium fuel (edited)

Not when the closest station is 80miles away
  16. Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
Voted hot, but unfortunately in my area, even with the discount, they'd still be more expensive than most other "fuel stations"

    Thanks OP.

Anything will help. I'm an NHS District Nurse and paying out of my own pocket for fuel to drive around to see patients, covering 50 mile per day.

I get it back eventually but it takes like 8 weeks for my mileage money to be returned and even then I am just about breaking even with the rubbish pence per mile allowance. Really thinking of changing my job as it's currently costing me a bomb.
    CynicalNurse's avatar
Just get a lease electric car. I did, saves a fortune and means you make money from the mileage allowance even after paying for the lease. Our Trust has a scheme where they arrange all the finance etc for you and you can charge at work for free whilst you're there.
  20. TristanDeCoonha's avatar
For those belittling the 3p, look at it this way, as a percentage you save & gain more in 5 mins than you would in a year at the bank.
The cost to your pocket is zero, they even post the card for free.
If you buy your fuel on the last 2 days of your credi card statement, Wex won't take payment immediately, and so you have given yourself another month to pay it off. If you had used your credit card then it would be due sooner.
  21. maccalen's avatar
I have two Essos within half a mile of each other, yet there's 8p/litre difference between the two. They make it up as they go along.
  22. berrie.anderson's avatar
I also was on the point of signing up but not happy them having my bank account details, cannot see any reason why they should need them
    pricklychin's avatar
    To pay for the fuel...

BLC is quite possibly the easiest discount card to get.
My partner was never checked, and her wage slip looked like it had taken 2 mins to draw in a spreadsheet. All they are interested in is the membership fee. Much the same as the NUS card, before they started demanding ac mail addresses as confirmation. (edited)

Having the reverse issue with them for my Wife.

Asked them a few times to change her maiden name with which she originally opened the account. But they never bothered replying.

Come renewal they’ve taken the money and two months on won’t activate the membership. Provided work ID, then verified nhs email with her married name, then marriage cert.

Each time they take weeks replying, ignore what she’s said in the ticket and just ask for another document for proof.

Not sure what they think is happening. My wife has found someone that looks like her, with the same first name, NHS ID and NHS email to whom she’s trying to transfer her BLC account. Why wouldn’t that person just open their own account given they have everything required.

Makes a mockery of their claim:

”HERE FOR YOUbecause you're here for all of us”

The only time they were there for my wife was when it came to taking payment. Surprise surprise no issue then
  24. barnehurst's avatar
Is it worth the faff for 3p off a litre unless you drive 1000 miles a week?
    TristanDeCoonha's avatar
When the fuel price threatens to jump 3p per litre overnight, do you not regret it?
It's just another card. Once you have it there is no extra work involved.
You will still get whatever level of Tescos points that apply at the Tesco / Esso stations
  25. stu1991's avatar
Anyone know how to get past the card validation screen by any chance? Just keeps sending me back to that
  26. RavensNest_OfTech's avatar
Ordered! Esso is actually cheaper than Tesco by me and they're both on the way to work so we'll see if the price stays the same 😁

Anyone else experiencing massive lag on their website trying to sign up?
    Kathie's avatar
Yes. That's crazy. I got an error after providing my card details, but it is stored on my account. However, I have not received any confirmation e-mail yet.
  28. MarkyLon's avatar
I completed the online application. When I got to the section asking for my credit card information, I completed it and they then request a test payment of £00.01
That’s when the website went haywire and crashed. I can log BA
Ck in but it just says it’s trying to take the test payment and crashes again. Anyone else having the same issue?

Plenty moaning that it’s cheaper at supermarkets… so use them! Where we live, Esso is 3p a litre cheaper than Tesco/Asda already!
    simonbendall's avatar
Same here, Esso is the same price as the local supermarkets.

I use the Petrol Prices app to compare.

Anyone tried using their card and clarify how the discount is applied as the pump issues u receipt at full price
    thanx
    sharnie60's avatar
Hope this helps - receipt shows full price then discounted when taken from your payment card.

    How to use your card

Step 1. Put the desired fuel in your vehicle from any Esso branded service station

Step 2. Present your Esso Card™ discount card to the attendant (please do not pay for the fuel using your credit or debit card as you will not receive any discount)

Step 3. The attendant will then swipe your Esso Card™ discount card and you may be asked you for your vehicle registration and mileage

Step 4. You will then be asked to enter your unique PIN code (you can view your PIN anytime by logging into your customer portal) If you input the incorrect PIN three times, your account will be blocked

Step 5. The attendant will then provide you with a copy of the receipt (this receipt will not show you the discount)

Step 6. Esso Card™ will take payment at your discounted rate from your nominated payment method, after the transaction has taken place and a VAT receipt will be emailed showing the discounted price and total charges
