Microsoft Copilot is now available as a standalone app. You no longer need the Bing mobile app to access Copilot on Android devices and I'm guessing the iOS app is coming soon, but who knows.

Creative mode gives you access to Open AI's GPT-4 which is usually a paid subscription at ChatGPT.

I didn't see a post about it, so hope it helps someone!

Thanks OP this is great and am using it on my android. Just wondering if it's 30 free prompts you get on Chat GPT 4. because when I ask it a question, it comes up "1 of 30", then "2 of 30" etc. Does this happen to anyone else? (edited)

You can reply to each conversation 30 times. When you start a new conversation, the countdown starts again.

I'm not sure I've ever hit the limit even when asking multiple unrelated questions in one conversation, but you should be able to start again if you need.

How does this differ from chatgpt?
    valueadd101's avatar
They allow free use of GPT-4, whereas ChatGPT is only free GPT-3.5 at the moment.

ChatGPT is less restrictive when it comes to code writing however, Copilot is more cautious (“I can’t write this, but I can give you an example”)

What's differences are between this and GPT?
    Richard_Mathews's avatar
this is MS own special blend: Microsoft's head of search, Mikhail Parakhin, wrote on Twitter that Bing Chat uses 100% GPT-4 in Creative and Precision modes. Balanced mode uses a combination of language models, including GPT-4. In addition to the OpenAI models, Microsoft uses the Prometheus model, a "collection of skills and techniques," and its own Turing language models in Bing. The Turing models also controls Bing's search results.

Ok downloaded it but not sure why lol, what is it useful for

If you ever use google search.. then this is what it's for. It gives you really good answers straight away, without need of clicking links and finding it yourself. There's also a huge creative aspect - for example someone sends you an email asking for XYZ, instead of writing entire email you can just write "bob said this copy-paste, please respond that I want THAT" - all done. Plus various work related cases - write me a job description for X role, write a content for Y website, respond to this HUKD comment..

If you're wondering who uses things like this or reckon it's useless:
Coding - people who code on computers often use AI like ChatGPT to check through their thousands of lines of code to check for mistakes.
Writers - authors and journalists use it to double check their writing for grammatical errors, misspellings, etc.
Visually Impaired - being poor sighted, or even blind, makes searching the internet difficult. Using voice commands to search and having an AI explain and simplify what it's found makes finding information for the disabled as easy as watching the TV.
    Damneddan's avatar
I use it to explain complicated things or scenarios simply for clients. Used Chat GPT for this so far not copilot yet.

Do i take it that it can or could run in the background ?

Also could this run well with WhatsApp by any chance ?
    WhaleTrain's avatar
    I think you're mis-understanding how this works.

It's a standalone app for asking questions and prompts - not an AI that runs on the device.

Was trying this out last night and amazed how wrong it's answers were in relation to flight information. Was looking for flights into a specific airport for next year on set dates and it kept giving me the information for last year. Also was asking it questions about football results and it was telling me the wrong team won. Makes you worry it's riddled with errors and how they will be extrapolated into other content and decision making.
    Jarosik's avatar
Flights are a no no. Anything that involves real time data that varies literally by the second is a definite no.

As I said to someone before - always do your own research. A basic example of this - being with family on Boxing Day and apparently the go to Chinese was open. According to a Google search about 9 hours before. Google basically telling you what it expected based on the stupid humans that input the information. When it comes to far more complex and innumerable possibilities such as flights - it's where you are - unsure.

That is interesting. I thought the 4 version was better than 3.5.

What is the point of it? I just asked it where I should go on holiday and it just gave me some really basic suggestions like what you would get from searching the internet.
    Jarosik's avatar
That's like asking your estranged ex. What did you expect?

Give it more information. Tell it where you've been and where you like, what you enjoy etc as contextual information and it will yield far better results. It's not Mystic Meg

My God. We are going to become even dumber. Schools will stop teaching altogether and universities will close down. ChatGPT will find everything for us. The future just got scarier. ChatGPT can do all of our office jobs and we all will be cleaning the streets or working as binmen.

GPT-4 will offer up-to-date/'real time' information. Copilot will do the same thing essentially but it behaves slightly differently. If you actually ask it what the difference is you'll get the best explanation
  37. wudipest's avatar
What's the difference between this app and the Bing app?
    Jarosik's avatar
Copilot is integrated into the Bing app. This is a standalone app for Copilot.
  38. costco's avatar
Unfortunately it's not compatible with my galaxy S9.

Anyone know why it's not compatible with my device? I have a Huawei P30 Pro, which isn't that ancient!
    DaveRay's avatar
The P30 Pro runs Android 10 currently. It appears Copilot needs Android 11.
