Priced between £379-399 in sale and an additional 15% off with code this weekend. (Medium grey is the cheapest). There's 2 colours and a variety of sizes in stock.

Hydraulic brakes which are excellent. I would highly recommend them to everyone. I love them.

Good budget bike, 3 chainrings on the front, I would just keep it in the middle ring as the cassette has a good range.

Shimano gears and Selle Italia Saddle. 29" wheels so will roll over everything off road really well.

Like all bikes pick your budget and stick to it. The more you spend the higher specs you get but for most cyclists this is absolutely perfect. It's easy to get caught up in paying a bit more for something slightly better.

Will this be good for 5 or 6 mile road rides? The roads here are shocking, but it will be on tarmac pretty much all the time

I have an older ghost Kato the cheapest model with disc brakes. Was not very impressed to be honest. But this looks higher spec. Internally routed cables and hopefully they didn't make their own forks this time. I would have preferred cheap suntour ones on mine (edited)

Yeah they are garbage RST forks here which probably perform badly but more importantly the complete absence of spares so its a throwaway product. Even the cheap Suntour XCE/XCT have spares availability which I guess is mainly the seals. Personally I can't see the appeal of this bike at the price with those forks. You'd have to factor in replacement forks into the price if you were going to use this seriously off-road and then you would be better off using that extra money towards a better bike in the first place with upgraded parts all around. Ghost are a German importer of Asian bikes so not only are you paying for the profits at the Asian factory but the profits at the German importer and the profits at Chain Reaction. Better to eliminate one level of profits/margin and buy from one of the retailers own brands like Vitus or maybe a Halfords brand.

US and European brands mean very little really its just another brand slap on a Asian bike its better to focus on spec and the product itself rather than the sticker on the downtube.

You either get none or rubbish ones with new bikes.

    Try Nukeproof or DMR

    Does it come with pedals

If it does will be a very cheap set.

Buy Nukeproof pedals at same time, they're about £18 from same supplier. You won't regret it.

Bottom bracket any good in this? I ask as my current Voodoo Bizango 29er is absolutely rubbish, I'm on my 6th one in 2 years & I only use the bike to cycle to work

This Ghost or this Forme? paulscycles.co.uk/bik…517

Quite like the internally routed cables on the Ghost. Otherwise looks similar?

Fork on the Forme is competent where as its poor on the Ghost. The rear seat stays on the Forme are inline with the top tube for extra rigidity and strength. You have a 2x rather than 3x drivetrain I find it difficult to select a winner here. The 3x has more gearing range but the 2x will be easier to maintain and dial in the adjustments but for a real mountain bike 1x is preferable for better chain retention and easy up/down shifting when off-road where fast gear changes are required.

Overall the Forme looks the much better bike and is cheaper too. I suppose some people will argue the benefit of the Ghost bike with its remote lockout of the fork but what is the point where the fork is so basic just seems like a gimmick. The extra 20mm of travel of the Forme bike combined with a stronger better fork that does have spares available is easily the winner.

If I had the spare cash I would buy this no problem. It's actually a decent quality bike for sensible money.
