I love Google Pixel cameras. Currently have a 6a but according to reviews the difference between 6a & 7a cameras is not worth the upgrade.
Despite the fact that the Pixel 7a has a 64MP main camera, as long as you have good lighting, the Pixel 6a’s 12.2MP wide camera also takes very good photos. In fact, it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between the Pixel 7a and Pixel 6a when it comes to most shots taken with the main cameras.

I think you're in a very small minority there! What exactly is the problem you've had with one?

£269.20 for pixel 7 if I trade in 6a or £184.20 for 7a? Is it worth going for any of these or is it better to stick with 6a which I've got for £199 thanks to MrSwitch and just wait until pixel 8 is released and see if that is any good?
    emptypocketz's avatar
Quite a few YT reviews of 6a vs 7a suggest its not actually worth the change, many are suggesting wait for 8th series due to fall.

Not that I have tried or owned 6a, but the 6a is regarded as one of those top budget phones and still is I believe especially for that price tag.

If you can stack topcashback, quidco and other coupons and even any discounts from google 1 services and get it right down to something silly like £100-150 then it maybe worth it imo.

Brilliant, purchased with the 6a trade in. Paid £200 for the 6a from giffgaff refurb a few months ago, accounting for cashback it's a free upgrade with £40 Google store credit. Thanks for posting this deal!
    ziavirgo's avatar
Wait. You can use the playstore credit on this ?

Literally bought this two days ago before the price decrease 😡, anyone know if you can get the discounted refund post purchase ??
    Valtr's avatar
I believe you can if you purchased from Google.

anyone have a pixel 7a, is it worth it? cheers
    emptypocketz's avatar
Lovely phone only been using it for a day, have played around with the 6.5" oppo a16 and previously a Sony X compact like 7 years old

So the competition has not been the best, but its a lovely phone so snappy and fast and the 6.1" size is good in the hand, I don't like the bigger handsets at all.

Battery life is still up for debate but it has been mentioned some were fine others not so much, I could see with heavy use you probably would need a top up at mid or end of day if not 2 mini top ups, but I have yet to let the adaptive battery learn my usage which I hear takes a week or so.

The stock google experience is smooth as butter, not tried the camera or other cool features but just wanting to get it up and running.

This is a decent deal if you can get the phone down in cost as much as you can, topcashbacks, trade ins etc I paid £300 from mozillion hotuk deals offer so @ that price its a no brainer you might wish to keep an eye on deals or wait for a few months when pixel8 arrives and prices will drop on 7 and 7a more so.

I've still got an old Samsung Note 9. It's getting long in the tooth. It's had a new screen, battery, motherboard and rear case but keeps going.
Not sure how this would compare to that or if I should stick with Samsung, going for an S22 or 23 which are more expensive.

    Worth upgrading from a 6a?
    emptypocketz's avatar
I checked a few reviews on YT its hard to be 100% a few did however suggest they did not feel the upgrade was worth it. Having said that £175 for trade in is still pretty cool and if you are a heavy phone user or just want to treat yourself when you got that extra cash it maybe worth it.

I think we might see similar trade in deals with pixel8 and that sounds much more worthy to jump onto you just might not get the same trade in price deals naturally.

Fingerprint sensor better than 7 on this? Mines terrible
    emptypocketz's avatar
common niggle with phones I believe, you have to enable fingerprint with protector mode on and redo the finger scanning.

Not reached that point yet though on my unit.
  13. neon85's avatar
Just notice the standard Pixel 7 is also 20% off, so £479, plus they're offering £210 trade in for the Pixel 6a. So £269 to upgrade from 6a to 7.

Wonder if these have the overheating issues present on the 7/7 Pro.

I went through 3 devices before Google finally refunded the original cost of the phone due to random overheating.

They're nearly there, but there's always something not quite right.
    Figo_Rulz11's avatar
I've not experienced any overheating issues on my Pixel 7, I've had the phone since launch last year.

Like the 6a, £249 at some point.

Wow iPhone 12 mini is worth £360, making this £40 only!! Cheaper than replacing the battery!!
  19. stuartc74's avatar
Got 10% back for annual storage, 1% Quidco, traded in an Apple 12 mini for £360 so got the 7a for £1. (edited)

Is this actually worth over £224 over the 6A
    DopeyDunker's avatar
That's what I'm not convinced about. I'm not bothered about wireless charging and I'm happy enough with 60hz to conserve battery. There isn't much in it on the cameras. I think I'll just stick with the 6a.
  21. leelukehope's avatar
Was looking at getting one of these but couldn’t see any confirmation that they removed the ‘feature’ where it switches from 90Hz to 60Hz if it’s too sunny outside
I like the pixels but there always seems to be a hidden compromise that spec sheets don’t reveal.
  22. sonosppp's avatar
    Good deal, purchased.

Going to trade in my Pixel 5 for £135. Not bad.

Shame though as I've loved the Pixel 5.

These will keep coming until the Pixel 8 is released in the autumn

Perfect timing, my Pixel 6a has a screen defect (line down the screen). Spoke to Amazon yesterday, they are giving me a full refund after having it for nearly a year.

I'll buy a 7a from Amazon for this price.
    emptypocketz's avatar
Wow so Amazon just agreed to a full refund, not the usual send off for repair drama. Was it a straight forward asking or some sort of complaint towards the product?

Either way good job at least you get the 7a
  25. standinman's avatar
I'll stick with my 6a ,lighter with better battery life !

Great device I'm currently using the blue version
    BT1978's avatar
    Battery life any good mate?
  27. DonkeyKonk's avatar
They are giving £90 for a Pixel 4a.

    £135 for a Pixel 5.

I just do not really trust sending my phone in to anyone (and have not heard great things about Google Trade Ins)...

Hoping to see a nice Currys in store "fuss free" trade in deal soon. (edited)
    user072022's avatar
both currys and carphone do trade in pixel 6a gives you £150
  28. Pleasant_exe's avatar
So much for buying it not long ago... wtf google

Be warned, the battery is pretty horrendous and the phone gets hot.... i love my Pixal 7a but the battery is genuinely bad and sadly i couldn't return it as i missed the date. For this price its pretty damn nice. (edited)
    emptypocketz's avatar
how long have you had it?

Just curious since it is a big complaint on the 7as, but many say the adaptive battery should learn the habits.

I have been using chrome, banking apps, news apps and still on 64% after 12 hours, am suspecting camera ,YT and games may kill the battery?
  29. p3108's avatar
It's a shame there's no 5% off student codes that work on top to bring it down further like the one that worked on the 6a bringing it down to £279.05 before any trade-in when it was on sale at £299.
    emptypocketz's avatar
maybe try the topcashback 5% offer.

might not be able to stack both but better then nothing.
  30. DAVE3652's avatar
Is this better than a s20fe?
  31. Chris_R23's avatar
Can I do another trade in using same address?
    kar999's avatar
Me and the missus both traded in 3 & 3a for two 6a last Christmas.
  32. stuartc74's avatar
    7a or 6pro?
    Crossbow's avatar
6 Pro better in 95% of the specs, noticeably taller in size too by 14mm gsmarena.com/com…170
  33. energy80s's avatar
How much will they offer for my Pixel 1 XL? Need to change soon as it doesn't do 4G for calls (and 3G is on its way out). Would really need to change in the next 3 weeks to get the benefit of the camera on my summer holidays, but there just seems to be so many issues with the 6 and 7 that I don't like paying £500 plus for one.
    LaurenceGough's avatar
Pixel OG is worth a lot for unlimited photo backups. Best thing about them.
  34. phantompti's avatar
Hmmm £148.28 to upgrade 6a to 7a with the discount code I still had...
    MT-RED's avatar
Dont suppose you still have a 7 code you are not planning to use do you mate? If so a DM with it would be really appreciated
  35. Valtr's avatar
I found that the 20% code they recently sent out doesn't work with the 7/7 pro nor does student discount. Bumps it back up to £449 at checkout then applies the code.
    MT-RED's avatar
Yeah I think the 20% is off RRP, so its not as good as it sounds - 20% off the sale price would be amazing. I am trying to buy the 7 currently and although its £100 off with that code its £120.....so an extra £20 in my bank which is worth it.....if only I could get a code (edited)
  36. Morty360's avatar
I have a Poco F3 for the last year. It's now playing up and have random crashes / boot loops so looking to upgrade

Wondering from what I've seen if the pixel line of phones is a good next choice. Looking mid range not flagship but again there is just a sea of options!
    Topper1900's avatar
Now OnePlus are no longer selling their devices in the UK the best mid range phones appear to be the Pixel or Samsung A54, or along with the Northing 1 but that's about to be superseded by the more expensive Northing 2.

Slow charging compared to the Chinese brands is the main bugbear of the Pixel.
