I have been using the BT router for 2 years now. First time I ever used the isp router actually but I want to add some features like VPN and access control for kids phones and computers etc.

I think I meant to say VLAN actually. I want to access stuff from outside the home. (edited)

Once you move away from ISP provided router, you'll never go back.

Is it worth getting the TP-Link BE9300 with wifi 7 (£300) or this? I would like to play around with the software and perhaps put 3rd party firmware on it. I tried a few years ago but it wasnt very good then on the TP link router that I had.

Depends if you are already invested in the Asus Router ecosystem or not. I already have an Asus router, so this is to add to it using the AiMesh.

I've tried 3rd party firmwares in the past and it just wasn't stable enough for my liking.

Good price for the spec OP .

But Sorry - to be the voice of reason, if you spend this much on one, or £900 on a pair, for your house… can I suggest you add a hard wire!

This is kind of ridiculous for one or 2 gaming machines, unless you’re hosting lan parties (do people still do them outside of LTT), then I am not sure this has a use case except the 00’s bat-cave aesthetics look…

    IMHO…

P.S. don’t see these in any YouTube “My perfect setup” as an example. (edited)

Most people use this as their main router and add routers such as the ET12 as nodes.

To play devil's advocate, this is a fantastic price for it. It has lot of power, a ton of options and good Wifi range. Plus has 10gbe support (though realistically, the CPU will probably restrict you from getting 10gbe wired transfer speeds). I've found Asus routers to be a lot more reliable than consumer solutions.

Beyond this, you'd probably be looking at prosumer gear from Ubiquiti.

Not sure such a thing as a perfect setup exists. All down to your need, budget, house, technical experience etc.
