I have this charger and it’s never available as it has a 2G network SIM card installed. I wish had I never bought it TBH.

Very good spot/point, the 2G network is being phased out so that feature is entirely pointless now. I'll pass on this one as it isn't WiFi enabled.

Just in case people assume that this includes installation… it doesn’t. £500 extra

Electric vehicles have been it hard in 2023/24.

£1k to a install EV, high insurance cost and massive yearly depreciation with dealers not taking trade ins - Not worth it imo for a small fuel saving.

    Bullshit.

1 - you don't need a 7kw charger. You can charge without one, it will just be slower.

2 - insurance cost is higher across the board. That's for ALL cars.

3 - depreciation hits any car. If you are worried about it, lease one or buy 2nd hand (works for ICE and EV).

4 - it's not a SMALL fuel saving. You are looking at paying £3.5 every 260 miles or som. That's huge. Also, there's barely any maintenance to worry about which is also huge. (edited)

I think you have to sign up for a BG tariff in order for this to work (edited)

Yep plus requires a smart meter.

Why are people who have no interest in EV’s so don’t require a charger wasting their time loitering in the comments area just to criticise EV’s? Do you sit in the women’s lingerie and children’s toys posts as well?

We get it you don’t like EV’s just move on

It's a weird thing, they seem to think they know more than everyone else and have spotted that EVs need longer to charge up Vs a petrol refuel, like owners of an EV hadn't noticed and taken that into account.

Great deal, although how are you going to get back from the shops?

You mean if you run out of battery?

Same thing happens if you don't fill your car with petrol/diesel etc

Costco do this but it’s the next charger up and you get 10% of installation if my memory serves me right mini pro 3 (edited)

Can you install one yourself? I’ve got a charger already, but can swap it out easy enough
    AamirQuazi's avatar
Yeah - its like rewiring a plug! Just make sure you isolate it first!

So plus installation £989 for an untethered charger? When I can get a tethered charger installed for £975. Other than the 12 months free charging I don’t see much of a deal.

Even if you charged every work day you wouldn’t make much money back albeit the kit would be paid for. It seems more like a way of moving older kit possibly.

Seen some really bad reviews above customer service etc so unsure if this is a good deal

British Gas have been appalling on my elderly mother's simplest HeatPump install all winter (on a 3 day job), and the manager from that has just moved to their EV Team...

British Gas were also a shambles on my sister's Solar Thermal install a few years prior – wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Not in customer's nor environmental interest at all, but only ticking a Green corp gov box, rather than actual efficiency etc that could help.

I wish V2G would become accessible – only way I could afford an EV.

Pretty much no bidirectional chargers, CHAdeMO being fazed-out (£1k CCS convertor isn't even lockable, so not leaving one of those unattended). (edited)

Heard that there are a few more V2G charging points coming out this year. Definitely makes owning an EV more affordable but also helps to balance out the grid and will make electricity cheaper in the long run
