Breathable Mesh Upper
Upgraded from their predecessors, the Speedgoat 5's have a new, and improved breathable mesh upper. This time around the Hoka Speedgoat's utilise mesh materials that are designed using recycled content in creating a double-jacquard mesh construction, for an extremely durable garment that will ensure you stay at an optimum temperature and comfort. Lightweight and breathable, the mesh allows cool air to flow through the shoe removing uncomfortable heat build-up and regulating internal temperature to create a healthy environment that feet can thrive in. The fabrication hugs the foot offering lightweight support whilst strategically placed overlays across the midfoot helps to lock the foot down in the shoe keeping you feeling secure and locked in for a stable and supportive fit. Ensuring much-needed support, the overlays also increase durability by protecting both the shoe and the foot from possible damage that may be encountered along the trail. Alongside this, the shoes have an exceptionally protective toe rand for shielding against hard knocks and bumps, and a gusseted tongue has been added to the upper to provide next to skin comfort. This prevents any dirt or debris from entering the shoes, whilst also providing ventilation to your feet, for ultimate confidence with every stride. An extended heel tab assists you in putting the shoes on easier, and a traditional lace-up construction, with 100% recycled materials provide your feet with a locked-in, secure fit so you can enjoy distraction-free strides.

Lightweight Foam Midsole
A lightweight foam has been used within the midsole of the Hoka Speedgoat 5 Trail Running Shoes to ensure a cushioned and responsive ride. This specialised midsole material provides lightweight cushioning, even more so than its predecessor, which keeps your feet comfortable and supported as you move through uneven terrain. The lightweight foam is also highly responsive as it works to adapt to the ground beneath you and works to propel you forward as you move throughout the gait cycle. The light foam is ideal for this running shoe as it prevents the wearer from feeling weighed down and will keep you feeling light and quick on your feet. As well as this, the foam absorbs shock and impacts in key areas of the shoe and helps to stabilise the foot keeping you firmly on your feet. Completing the midsole is a wider platform and the toe box within the shoe is designed to provide more stability on a wide variety of terrain so you can have assured footing no matter how challenging the ground beneath you may be. The wider forefoot also ensures a more accommodating fit so you can remain comfortable for longer.

Vibram Megagrip Outsole
Completing the Hoka Speedgoat 5 Trail Running Shoes is a Vibram MegaGrip outsole that ensures traction and grip on varied terrain. This high-performance rubber compound provides you with an unparalleled grip on wet and dry surfaces, rugged longevity and optimal ground adaptability. The rubber can form a solid bond with the ground beneath it to ensure traction and control as you explore the unbeaten path. Zonal rubber placement ensures traction and grip where you need it the most whilst remaining lightweight so you can cut through tough terrain with ease. Furthermore, 5mm lugs adorn the outsole to provide flexible and sticky multi-directional traction as you tackle awkward ascents and daring descents. The lugs ensure additional support and stability so you can continue with complete confidence that your footwear will support any outdoor adventure.

Alpinetrek have some wide ones about £80. I found the standard fit too narrow.

Hot deal, been a fan of all speedgoat models for comfort and protection underfoot on rocky ground. But for me in the desire to lose tiny amounts of weight they've got less and less protective on top and around the toes.

The Speedgoat series have been good, to me but despite (on paper) the same outsole as the SG4, the grip on my SG5's is bloody awful. They also rub in odd places and put pressure under the ball of the foot for me (mine are the wide fit.) I've found myself slipping on bone dry trails in the Lakes, and if there's any moisture at all they're lethal.

I'm using mine as road shoes because I refuse to sell them on and make them someone else's problem, with the volume I do they'll be gardening shoes soon. Even on roads they're uncomfortable but I've popped an Engo patch in to deal with one hotspot and will use them for shorter (hour or less) runs for now. (edited)

Fantastic, comfy trail shoe. The only draw back I would say is the tread wears down on then very quickly, I’m only about 230 miles into a pair and they’ve warn down a lot

All great, but I wish the wide version was on offer.

I have Hoka Speedgoats and they are a joy for trail running. Size up at least half a size though. Great price against RRP (edited)

Are these also good for road running?

They will wear like crazy and be a lot firmer than your average road running shoe.
