If you have Perks at Work or something similar then the price is £314.99

For the benefit of anyone who needs to know, it can be upgraded to 16Gb (2x 8Gb DDR4) max uk.crucial.com/com…0na (edited)
    Marcel's avatar
Use the code 10Crucial to get 10% discount on your upgrade.

I like 14" laptops. Not too big for carrying but big enough to easily use
  4. drivel's avatar
Nice specs but note this has a poor screen.
    AJ2007's avatar
250nits is pretty poor for screen (should be at least 350-400nits minimum).
Also Bluetooth is only 4.2 (should be 5.1), WiFi is 1x1 (should be WiFi 6, 2x2).

This device is now in my possession and its not TN

I also ran a Crucial scan and it told me you can expand RAM to 32GB rather than the stated 16GB (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
The one in John Lewis is definitely TN. What is the part and model number of yours? Or can you provide the LCD device ID from Device Manager?  (edited)
  6. plewis00's avatar
Just saw this on display in John Lewis and is it definitely a TN panel not IPS, quite dim with washed-out colours and appalling viewing angles. JL part number is 82711241, same HP model number. Buy at your own risk if you are expecting an IPS display.

You must have been looking at the wrong laptop.
Got this today and it`s all set up now and it`s definitely IPS display.
    No doubt about it.
    Also confirmed by KricketFan earlier.

Where is this picture from please? I can't find it on the linked to HP page. I hope it is IPS, but none of the spec words have much to say about the screen type - or none that I see. Thanks for help

To be clear there are many variants of this laptop some with a backlit keyboard and some with a IPS display, the HP 14s-fq1000na model DOES NOT have these features.

50071552-uobRq.jpgMaybe the OP will confirm this tomorrow or not. (edited)

Just ordered this... £314 via bluelight card for those who have it.
  10. stevenbamford's avatar
Great price for spec on this laptop I have just purchased it with the blue light discount. Had me old HP laptop about 5 years so this is a bargain
  11. KricketFan's avatar
I just bought this going the John Lewis route for the same price (hat tip to alared) even if it were a TN panel it would not be a deal breaker to me as the processor is what gives this device its heightened selling point.

    cpubenchmark.net/cpu…141

That gives excellent performance for this price point.

I was tempted to go John Lewis but got a couple other accessories that were 20%off from hp so I went with them
  12. KricketFan's avatar
I bought it off John Lewis with the £20 off code for joining their site that alared posted of, clicked yesterday evening and collected this morning.

And is it definitely an IPS screen?
  13. alared's avatar
It`s a good deal IF the display is IPS.
Anyone interested should get HP to confirm this.
Here is the data sheet but it does not actually say IPS.

Same price £349-99 at JLP with members £20 off and a two year warranty.

Don't really like the fact the text there does not state screen type. Also if you look at the reviews some have a suffix of 14s (fq1000na 14s - that might point to IPS screen?). EDIT Ha! I see the 14s is mentioned in the OP at the start of the model number. Oh Well!

    Cannot open HP's PDF. (edited)
  15. Ian_D123's avatar
I doubt it has an IPS screen
    alared's avatar
So do I, but JLP bumph says it does.
  16. alared's avatar
I don`t know if it comes with windows 11 installed or if you have to upgrade it yourself.
Usually when there`s a "S" in the model number you have to upgrade yourself.

Just spoke to HP support and can confirm it is IPS

Seen a display model in John Lewis and it’s definitely not IPS - unless HP Direct has a different model for sale. I’ve also never seen HP not list an IPS display as IPS or WVA, they wouldn’t undersell it.
  18. alared's avatar
It is in stock but it`s £403

Stick to the HP, far better make.

Would this be a good buy at £315?

I reckon so - bought one for that from HP via my Perkbox link yesterday

So I'm gna replace the ssd for a 1TB one, anyone recommend a good one at a good price?
  22. plewis00's avatar
Just stick any 1TB M.2 drive in there listed recently, they’ve been under £40 on occasion, it will be fine - you don’t need a super fast one. You will need to partially remove the feet and they may not stick back without glue.

As to this system and because you have bought one, can you confirm what model you received and where you bought it from?
