If you do use one of these, make sure you close it and spin the numbers when you take the key inside, otherwise someone will just read the code then come back at a later date.

The push button type that you take inside with the key are much better (Yale)

If you’ve got a push button type I’d suggest you change the code every now and again because they can show signs of wear on the buttons that can give your code away.

I use these quite a lot at vacant properties but NEVER fit them in plain sight or next to a door.

We have these in our block, I have one at my door.
Convenient at BEST (if you remember the code) and better/safer than leaving a spare key under the mat. I busted one open for a friend in seconds.

    WORD OF ADVICE
If you have home insurance BE SURE TO MENTION you keep a key in this box, if only to cover your rear.

I've always wondered how easy they are to break open. Are more expensive models more secure?

Use a bit of Blu tack inside to keep the keys from slipping and possibly jamming the closing half.I would be very surprised if those keys shown in the main photo would stay as their shown.

I can recommend the Supra P500 or C500 Pro KeySafe™ (2nd Generation). They're more expensive, but much more secure.
