Does this work across windows 10 and 11? If I install this through my microsoft account onto my current PC windows 10, if I upgrade to windows 11 later will it work? If I get a brand new PC can I reinstall?

I assume 1 device means if I log into my microsoft account on my laptop I can't use word/excel/powerpoint as it will be already on my PC? Or is it 1 device at a time? I have read conflicing things from Microsoft. (edited)

These stand alone versions are only licensed for use on only one device. If you put it on a desktop then want to move it to a laptop you need to uninstall it to stay within the licence.

There used to be an allowance that you could put it on a desktop and a laptop as long as the laptop was used less than 20% of the time of the desktop, but as more people got laptops that was dropped.

Now if you have a desktop and a laptop you need two copies (or subscribe to o365 that allows you up to 5 desktop or laptop installs, and can be Windows or Mac, as long as you only use it in one place at a time)

For most people that’s true, for some people it’s not.

Businesses almost universally use Office, and collaborating and sharing between Office and any of the open source versions can sometimes be hit and miss especially if it’s one of the lesser used features in Office.

Any indication of the amount of OneDrive space with this (if any) ?.

Googling now but can't see much of anything.

Zero. That's only with Office 365.

Great price. Only issue is this version doesn’t have outlook.

Correct.   To get Outlook you need O365 or the Home and Business edition.

    o365 is a subscription, H&B is about £250 for a perpetual licence.

o365 family is the bargain.   Office for up to 6 users, and 1TB of storage each user.   And at £80 rrp (you can often get it bundled with AV for less) that’s £20 per user per year for an average family of four.   For me the 1tb one drive is worth that alone, getting office thrown in too is a bargain.

Some schools and workplaces may allow you to download Office (depends what licences they have).  Most organisations now use the o365 subscription model so office use is tied to the student being in school /staying as an employee and the software will usually end into reduced functionality mode when the student/employee leaves and the account closed with Microsoft.

I've just reinstalled 2019 out of interest and I can see where I ended up going with Abiword

Trouble is that unfortunately some institutions/companies do require it... so sometimes there's no choice

If you need office you either but this as a one off purchase, or subscribe to 365 at £50 a year.

This one off purchase only allows an install on one device,  and is Word, PowerPoint and Excel.  It should not be used in a business environment, although I doubt anyone’s going to check.

o365 offers a little more, like outlook,  1TB OneDrive storage, 60 mins to landlines in most countries via  Skype as well as the ability to install one up to multiple devices so you can use Office on phones and tablets but it is a subscription and is payable yearly.

If you just need a word processor look at the free Libra Office or Open Office suites.  They do pretty  much all of what the Microsoft suites can do, but sometimes if you have to share files back and forth with other makes of Office Suites, the formatting can get messy.
