I've bought several Of these over the years, including Bluetooth options. I'm the tightest bugger out there, but they were generally worse than useless.
I Finally gave up 3 or 4 yrs ago and bought a £150 option..... It's already saved me several grand in garage fees (I've used it on VAG, land rover and Ford's thus far)

Yeh, my point was the sub £25 units are a waste of money....

Would this help diagnose electrical faults?

My central locking doesn’t always open the car from the beeper and sometimes my engine doesn’t turn off, I can even take out the key and it keeps running.

It may do, there are often codes in a car that don't show a light on the dash, etc. One thing to note; these code readers are typically generic, I.e they don't read all modules in a car, and each manufacturer may have different modules for different elements. As good as this is, it won't show all problems. This is why Garages still use expensive machines etc.

You can usually buy VAG specific machines etc, which will look at more specific modules in a car. But these types of units will not show the same depth of a propper mechanics machine/

...but for the price, its worth a try!

Had a couple of these (lent out, never returned!).
From memory, if you're planning on using the supplied CD-ROM to load on Windows PC then it came riddled with viruses.

If it is a basic obd2 reader you need. Lots on ebay under a tenner.

Seconded - search for 'Mini Elm327' and there are small bluetooth versions (mine was £3) that hook up to your mobile with apps. If you're OBD2 powers down without the key in, can just leave it plugged in.

Handy to have before getting bent over by your local garage.

Very few people need one of those unless you're doing a lot of work on your own car or you run a garage. Cheap £5 ones read codes and clear them which is what most people need. (edited)

Bought one of these recently and it's been invaluable trying to deal with a recurring EGR valve problem.

Im a VCDS man as all my cars have and always will be VAG.

But i fancy one of these or similar if it can be used on Motorbikes, i realise you need obd2 to Motorbike convertor cables for most models. Id just like to know if anyone has tried this or similar on Motorbikes ? (edited)
