Good price but 7 days come on, it takes 2 to get over jet lag (edited)

Done it many times. Just keep going on the day of arrival - until you are ready to drop. Then sleep 12 hours and you are then as good as gold - well thats my MO and it works for me. The killer is flying home and getting over the jet lag then. Takes me quite a few days.

Good deal but this hotel is horrible. One of the very very few disappointments I had within the Hilton group around the world.

What the heck are you going to do in kl for 7 days? It's good enough for a couple of days and as a base to visit the country and region but would not spend a week there

There is plenty to do in KL and the surrounding area. We stayed for 2 weeks last visit and never ran out of things to do. If you don't fancy a day out, the hotel pool will usually offer a peaceful relaxation and no crowds of people fighting for sunbeds.

Put another way, what do people do in a Med resort for a week? Get up at midnight to put out a towel and then stay on it all day doing very little. In the evening they all get ratted. (edited)

Completely random q but I'm looking at two completely different holiday destinations, Thailand and Taiwan, and this deal has now thrown Malaysia into the mix Not looking for a recommendation, but anyone been to all three and say which one they enjoyed the most? I've been to Malaysia before but wasn't anything remarkable although that was more than a decade ago.

    Thailand>taiwan>>>>malaysia

although Malaysia I’ve only been limited to KL, for direct capital city comparison a week in Bangkok or Taipei is much better.

Thailand really has endless choices from big city Bangkok, island beaches resorts, old city and mountains up north or countryside. Cheapest of them all.

taipei is underrated, a few days in centre loads of day trip options few hours outside. Jump on a bullet train to the other end of the island in 2 hours. Accom is pricey on weekends and general spend is cheaper than home. Excellent public transport

Malaysia is one of the countries I want to visit very soon, this is amazing value for flight and hotel.

Then try an add on from KL. Go down to Melaka and stay 2 nights (Holiday Inn is good or Casa Del Rio) and make sure you go to Pak Putra for an evening meal. Best Naans I have ever had.

Then move on down to Singapore for 3 nights. Express buses can be used for both destinations or for KL to Singapore use Air Asia. Or of course hire a car.

Spent a week at Shangri la.
    KL tower
    KL city gallery
    Batu caves
    Siri maha Mariaman temple
    Royal Selangor factory tour
    Rumah penghulu abu seman
    Jalan alor
    Sin sze si ya temple
    Islamic arts museum
    Petronas towers
    Central market
Went to Singapore for two days as well.
    A week's doable

Lets do a comparison. We are staying in KL for 15 nights at the end of May at a cost of £2,800 for 2 people in a top class hotel in a club room, including flights from Manchester. Another £200 will take care of eating out and local transport, so £3,000 in all.
A modest hotel in a British city or resort will cost around £150 a night (£2,250) Breakfasts £20 per night (£300) Evening meal without drinks £60 a night (£900), add another £100 for getting about. So £3,500. KL or UK? Not a difficult decision.
On previous visits to KL we have been to: Petronas Towers, KL Tower, Batu Caves, Putrajaya, National Mosque, Royal Selangor Factory,
Central, Petaling St and Chow Kit Markets,
Various museums: Police, Islamic, Postal, National.
Bird Park, Zoo, Butterfly Park, Kuala Selangor Fireflies, Aquaria KLCC
Music and light show at KLCC every night
Cheap outdoor restaurants and quality indoor restaurants everywhere.

The one downside is the price of alcohol, but there is no significant drinking culture so we easily fit in and adapt with that and have a bit of an alcohol free detox for a fortnight. No problem.

We are doing the same and booze is still cheap as in bars, way cheaper than over priced UK.....Weather in May is supposed to be awesome too.

We are planning on going KL and Langkawi this summer with baby and a toddler. How many days would you recommend staying in KL for? How should we split our time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    BiglyX's avatar
would 100% recommend langkawi for a couple of days!!!

I'd bear in mind also that Malaysia star rating on hotels is never reflected even 4-5 stars can be quite a letdown. Their standards are much lower than in other areas of the world, especially for cleanliness.

Very true. Tripadvisor is your friend here.

KL can fill an afternoon, that's about it.

Choose a different hotel if you can afford to.
I'd recommend the Doubletree if for some reason you have to stay within the Hilton portfolio.
Otherwise the Concorde is very good all round

It's not a good deal. KL is a raging season in November.
  16. fr3dy77_sp33d's avatar
Is it possible to change the return flight to longer than 7 days e.g. stay in hilton for 7 days and extend holiday to 30 days staying somewhere else?
    peakbear's avatar
I just had a quick go on the BA site and could get 11th Nov out and 8th Dec back (flight only no checked baggage) for £548 (might well find cheaper). There are perfectly decent hotels for 20 quid a night but you can pay much more or less depending on what you are looking for. - You can normally open jaw these kinds flights as well if you might want to go elsewhere and return from there.
