Anyone new to Pico, be aware that they usually have a sale on games and apps in the Pico Store every bank holiday - so here's hoping that continues next week.

    Here's a detailed review.

In short, it's a brilliant headset and better than the Meta Quest 2 in several ways, but the game library isn't quite as good.

Agreed, library is not huge but on the whole the Pico version of the game seems to be cheaper than the Quest version. I use my primarily for watching 3D blu rays, on a giant virtual cinema screen!
Never had any problems with it, no lag etc. Some favs include Eleven table tennis, Smash drums, Ragnarock. All in One Sports also a good family game. Not into first person explorer or shooter games but when dabbled found the headset nice a smooth.
One downside is that I have a narrow head so I get light leakage at the sides, which I fixed by sticking on some door draft excluder - hope it comes off OK if/when I sell it!

Can you use this as VR headset connected to a PC?

    Yes

This is a really good price, although it's worth noting the trend seems to be away from VR at the moment towards AR. Most of the latest devices are prioritising have really good colour cameras and tech that maps 3D into the real world, so I think VR-only devices are likely to be fairly short lived as far as games and apps go.

There is currently a ‘May Madness Sale’ on the Pico app with upto 40% off, runs 29th april to 6th may. These were vouchers (coupons) i have claimed on the app for using against games etc (edited)
    Gressex's avatar
Yep, found it today and claimed my coupons.
Be careful though as I don't think you can select which of the coupons: e.g. 40%, 30%, 20% discount, are applied to which purchase. I think it auto applies the highest discount coupon first, so list all the included items you want to buy, then buy the most expensive first, and hence get the biggest discount applied, first.

I don't beliebe this I just bought a MQ2 for my Son's birthday today and then this gets dropped in price! He will use it for PCVR mostly and I believe this is better for PC games than MQ2?!

The Pico 4 is much better for PCVR than the Quest 2. I would swap if you can. (edited)

Cracking piece of kit. My favourite gadget at present.

All the best accessories available for less from AliEx and highly recommend the prescription glasses wearers getting some cheap AliEx prescription lenses made up for this...

I Xbox and watch movies on a huge screen every night without disturbing the wife getting her beauty sleep...

Thanks for your post! Have you compared the Pico to the Meta Quest 2? Do you have experience of both? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if I should buy this when the ultimate target is Valve Index 2 (whenever the hell that comes out). Any advice?

There has only ever been vague talk that a new VR headset from Valve is even in development - and mostly from people who were doing interviews about Steam Deck. It may well never happen, like so many second sequels.

Valve's most recent major VR related work is an app for Quest 2 and 3, from the official Quest store, to connect to your PC an run Steam VR wirelessly. It's looking very much like standalone Android-based VR headsets (with passthrough) are the future of PC VR in the near term. (edited)

Weren't these like £99 from Smyths a while back or am I imagining that?
    Sp0oner's avatar
Yep and never saw the deal on here for them sadly - very lucky people who got them for that price when Smyths were dumping their stock.
