    Ring doorbells are great
    - my Ring Pro worked brilliantly with good quality recordings (that capture the lead up to the event), low false-positives, and quick response time.

... however its almost pointless without the subscription, which they put up to £3.50pm (or £35/y) - making it quite expensive. I bought a whole replacement doorbell (Blink) for that money (with a free echo dot during prime day last year). I already had a sync-2 module (as I have a blink camera) so now recording is free.

I will say the Ring was better than the Blink - but the blink works well enough for £0/month!

    Great price
can get it with the Echo Show 5 instead of the Pop for £95 if preferred.

Can anyone tell which generation of Ring doorbell this is.... 1 2 3 or 4?

And does anyone know how long the battery lasts between recharges??

    Cheers!

How long does tha battery last please?
    JonF992's avatar
Depends on how much it's used. Maybe six weeks, then you have to remove the doorbell to charge it up. Or you can buy a mains adapter and forget about battery life.

I love my Ring doorbell. Definitely recommend these.

Loath to buy another ring doorbell after the last one failed after 2 years. Plus the subscription id just taken out cost me

What's the sound like on the pop ? Does it have to be plugged in ? (edited)

I’ve connected mine to all 6 of my Alexa’s sounds like a 80’s rave when someone presses the doorbell. (edited)

Pros and cons between Blink and Ring. Blink are chaeaper and can record locally to an SD card. Ring needs a subscription, but it allows you to view recordings from anywhere in the world. If it's for your own doorbell, where you can pull the SD card to review, Blink is a good option. If you're monitoring, say, an elderly relative's house from somewhere else (that's what I have one for) the cloud sub is invaluable, and well worth the 10p per day cost.

For Ring, the best bet is to buy a mains adapter. Very quick and easy to set up.

I think people have differing experiences with all of these. I’ve tried Blink, Eufy and Ring.

Blink was pretty poor image quality and a bit rubbish that the batteries need to be 1.5v

Eufy was woeful with the notification time. Basically by the time I’d been notified the person had gone.

Ring, I found, to be the best quality and speed wise. While you don’t need the subscription if you are purely using it as a doorbell as you’ll still get notifications it is beneficial to have. I did think the £35 a year was pretty steep especially when you can get it free with Eufy and Blink with SD card but it’s only 67p a week and I spend a lot more than that on random rubbish throughout the week.

Also the Ring doesn’t include a wedge mount like the other two do. A bit lame that and when you’re looking at £15ish for a wedge mount that’s an additional cost. I made my own from wood!! (edited)

What can the ring doorbell do without the subscription?
  9. xlxaiwa55xlx's avatar
Amazing price, shame I had to buy one the other week after my auntie was burgled.

Still have no idea why people think these are a good idea Vs a £10 wireless doorbell and a CCTV camera if you want video.
    Grazz0r's avatar
or Alfred Camera, if you have an old phone lying around, you don't even need a camera for it.

Are they any good if you dont have the subscription? I read that the blink ones can at least store video locally if you have the sync module. Can Ring do the same?
    snoopy18's avatar
    No
  12. stinkybeard's avatar
So you need a subscription at £3.50 p/m to view recordings if for example someone calls and you miss it?

    No sd card slot?
    snoopy18's avatar
    Yes
    No

Hopefully not a stupid question - but if I don't have the chime, does the doorbell make a noise?
    XP200's avatar
Yes, but you can switch that off if you want.
  14. Shawna-kSenior-evans's avatar
A good price this is. Xx
  15. kissmyfurrybutt's avatar
Can this be hard wired into existing bell circuit and utilise the chime as part of the set up?
  16. jsd74's avatar
Fitted one on Saturday.....couldn't believe the size of the damn thing.....felt like holding a mobile phone 25 years ago. First problem was not wanting to drill 4 holes into my wall for a doorbell so used 6 velcro sticky pads (ring do a sticky pad back plate for £20!) Second problem was the WiFi reception which is around 1/3 strength 3m away from my router. Also the 8-24v AC connections on the rear I have no idea why they couldn't slap a small AC inline transformer in the box. Also was wondering what the 30 day countdown timer was but have just found out reading the posts! Also Currys might have screwed up and I might be getting a second one for free so if u have more than 1 is that still £3.50 pm regardless of how many?

£35 is for one device, 2 or more devices costs more.

Is the door bell gen1 or gen2?
    furbars's avatar
    Gen 2
  22. Professor_Chaos's avatar
Is there any real good reason to get this over the echo show?

will the video pop up on your phone ?

i had the echo show and ring package last year and video coming up on the echo was not instantaneous and I’m sure you had to give it permission to show up on the echo ???

can this act as a two way intercom via your phone to fend off cold callers etc

Ordered this but didn't really want the Echo Pop. Has anybody bought and returned just the Pop? Did Amazon give a refund ?
