Update: Sainsburys have put the price up online to £21 with Nectar card, but in-store still £15 with Nectar card but don't know how long it will last.

Update: Available in-store from Wednesday 13/03
£15 with nectar card reduced from £25

Ron Santiago de Cuba Aňejo 8 year old is aged in old oak barrels in Santiago de Cuba, the cradle of light rum. This rum has classic aroma of a Cuban rum, lighter in style than other rums, with aged notes. Excellently balanced, it is undeniably smooth and delicate with notes of honey, vanilla and cacao.

Its flavour perfectly embodies the rum from the Oriente of Cuba (the south east of the island): smooth, fruity and rich. It has a unique aroma that stands out in blind tastings amongst other Cuban rums.

Every bottle of Ron Santiago de Cuba is certified by the DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida) meaning production, bottling and 100% of sugarcane is from Cuba. It also means the minimum age of any liquid found in the Aňejo is 8 years old with older blends included

Nose: Notes of honey, vanilla, and cacao
Palate: Exquisite notes of tropical fruit, honey, some coffee and cacao present.
Finish: The aftertaste is undoubtedly smooth, a rum that has well-evolved in its barrel, that coats the tongue and leaves a taste of natural sweetness with subtle spicy notes.

Sainsburys in store sales cycle is usually Wed to Tuesday. Online starts a day early since the earliest delivery can't be before Wednesday anyway.

Thanks OP. Was normal price in-store this morning. Got the usual "we don't price match online" when I queried. So have ordered online click and collect and will pick up from the same store tomorrow for an extra 50p.

C.S. desk in my local store said it'll be the £15 Nectar price in-store from tomorrow. I'll pop back in a day or two to buy.

    Nice find, OP! (edited)

My nearest sainsburys did not sell Ron Santiago rums. The next nearest store is about 5-6 miles round trip, so was going to leave it till tomorrow but after seeing it at £21 online tonight i nipped down and was still £15 in-store so got what i wanted.

Check your receipts, guys. My local Sainsbury's had this for £15 nectar price on the shelves so I bought two but they scanned as full price (£25 each), despite using my nectar card and all the other nectar price discounts working correctly. Only noticed once I got back to the car and had to go back in and wait 10 minutes for customer service to refund the overcharge.

looks like it’s the normal one that’s reduced a couple of quid - 8 year old one still £25

Bought this in Cuba for just under £5 a bottle on my honeymoon. Distilled at the original Bacardi Distillery supposedly and really really nice!

the 11 yrs is even better shame they don't sell them too.

Yes, my son travelled around Cuba a few years ago and did a rum tasting session to learn and appreciate different rums.
Most people voted the S. de Cuba 11 yr one as best, even better than the 12 yr old.
The rum officials smiled knowingly at each other and said that's what Cuban people (who can afford it) go for when it's released.
Sadly, over here it's considerably more expensive, but worth it according to my son.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get a bottle of 8 yr old for £15!

Looking now in the Sainsbury's site it says £21 with nectar. I won't get the chance to go to a store until tomorrow, was it a mistake at £15 that's been rectified?
  16. sjs31's avatar
    I'm in-store now and it's priced & scanning @ £21 .
    Showing £21 on-line too

Can't believe it's gone back up to £21. Still a great price for a great rum but not the bargain it was. Glad I bought 3 bottles at £15 though
