Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo SL 29" Electric Mountain Bike 2022With a super-bike specification and unmatched performance, the Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo SL 29" Electric Mountain Bike is the pinnacle of lightweight electric bike performance. With a full 11m carbon chassis, the frame is stiff and lightweight, taking its design cues from the class-leading Stumpjumper trail bike. The sleek Specialized 1.1 motor system is compact and well-integrated and sees the frame take on a traditional aesthetic thanks to the slimline battery. For riders who demand nothing but the best, the S-Works Turbo Levo SL is an uncompromising choice that provides the best of both worlds - motor assistance and lightweight manoeuvrability.

Splitting the difference between the Stumpjumper and Turbo Levo models, the Turbo Levo SL delivers 250w of power and 35Nm of torque from the crank-mounted Specialized 1.1 motor, providing assistance up to a maximum speed of 15.5 mph / 25 km/h. With a natural-feel, the assistance will see you comfortably shuttling your favourite runs, providing resistance-free descending when outpacing the limit of the motor. The integrated 320Wh battery is lightweight and offers lasting power for repeat laps. Looking for all-day assisted riding? Specialized have you covered, an aftermarket range extender improves range by 50-percent, ideal for pushing your limits in the mountains.

Neatly integrated into the top tube, the Specialized Turbo Control Unit clearly relays power and assistance information through its LED display. With three power levels on offer, the level of support can be selected through the use of a handlebar-mounted remote and can be further personalised through the Specialized Mission Control app. Ideal for data-focused riders, the motor can display a power readout directly to your ANT+ compatible cycle computer.

Dripping with high tech features this S-Works model is equipped with the SRAM XX1 AXS wireless groupset, for instant, smooth shifting every time. 150mm of front and rear suspension is provided by the critically acclaimed FOX Factory 36 fork and DPX2 shock, featuring low-friction Kashima coatings for buttery-smooth performance. Designed for responsive acceleration, the Roval SL carbon wheelset uses a 54t DT Swiss star ratchet drive for instantaneous engagement. The Magura MT7 brakes provide unrivalled power thanks to their four-piston design and feature Downhill World Champion Loic Bruni’s signature one-finger lever design to further boost power. Deity Knuckleduster grips and Copperhead stem add an aftermarket touch to round off this pro-level specification.

I don't quite understand the point of these type of e-mountain bikes. Yes its lighter and more nimble than the heavier versions but why is such a weak ebike with low capacity battery close to the price of the much more powerful versions with larger batteries. Even the cheapest nastiest ebikes you see from direct Chinese suppliers have more power than 35Nm and larger batteries too. Are these lightweight models a lot more reliable than the full fat specialized e-mountain bikes which are notorious for motor faults and issues? The only positive I can think of is with such a weak motor the chance of chain snaps and rapid drivetrain wear is far less likely.

Surely you can do a lot better than this for far less than £7k. Don't Chain Reaction do a brilliant Vitus ebike for thousands less than this?

It's a quality brand who give a lifetime warranty, great customer service and support. The bike itself is going to be great quality and reliable, but if anything ever does go wrong they'll fix it for you for free (unless you messed it yourself, then you'll pay). Yes you can get much more power elsewhere for a lot cheaper, but those powerful cheaper batteries an motors will not last anywhere near as long as this bike, and when they do start to break the company you bought from will likely do nothing to help. I have a Specialized Turbo Vado and the customer service from the company is great. It's a good product. Although I wouldn't pay anything near this price for a bike, got mine for 6 times less than this but it is a lower model and is a hybrid not a full suspension mountain bike. All comes down to what you want and what your budget it.

Wow. For that price I would expect 4 wheels?

    Classic HUKD

Both products are intended for totally separate things and so not really comparable.

Great price for S-Works but it’s the SL so factor in the range extender battery cost.

Yes it's no full fat e-bike - but then it's not like riding a dump truck

35NM is laughably and at this price is ridiculous
