STARLINK Standard Satellite Antenna - Official Page

Details

Enjoy reliable satellite internet with Starlink, even in the most far-flung corners of the world. It's perfect for work, video calls and streaming when you're away from the city. And it comes with everything to get your holiday cabin or off-road caravan online in a matter of minutes - the only thing you'll need is a socket and a clear view of the sky. The Starlink app makes the setup easy, even helps you find the best spot for the dish.

Good to know

- The dual-band router uses the 3 x 3 MIMO technology to keep the WiFi swift and stable even with lots of devices connected
- You can expect stable download speeds up to 100 Mbps, depending on the service plan you choose
- The dish is weather resistant, so you can surf the web without worrying about heat, rain or snow

Please note: Starlink subscription is required for internet connection. Download the Starlink app to check which service plans are available in your area and to determine the best set up location before install.

This is just a standard Starlink kit ie the “WiFi router kit” is the standard power supply/router without which the system doesn’t work. You have to pay extra for the Ethernet adapter to connect a half decent router to it and it’s discounted because the new router- now standard in the US is much better (ie US is on v3, this is v2). It’s a perfectly workable system but curry’s are pretending it’s something it’s not.

    Standard price for old system.

Overpriced musk garbage, latency and speeds all over the place got rid of it as soon as I could. Smarty(15pm) now with 3 router from eBay for 150. Speeds 380/10. Obviously only if you get three masts reception in your area. (edited)

"Overpriced musk garbage, latency and speeds all over the place got rid of it as soon as I could. - just curious, why did you get it in the first place?

How fast and how low latency?
    TryLean's avatar
Speed depends on where and when but 80-250Mps. Latency varies52327231-saQ8O.jpg

Does it work in India or Pakistan if I buy here ?

You’ll need to look at the Starlink availability map. Up until recently they were not approved for use and the equipment simply wouldn’t work. They were seeking government approval when I last looked.
Starlink have tried to prevent 3rd party sales by insisting the buyer uses it for ?60days before selling it on. Plus it’s bulky and heavy so getting it in a plane would be tricky. what you can’t do is pay in the UK and have it work abroad unless you’re on an intercontinental roaming plan which is very expensive.

Actually looking at this £200+ for the kit and £75 a month isn't that bad for unlimited data.

If it were me and I was in middle of nowhere (weren't some people quoted like £30k to bring broadband to their small village?) I would try and tap into this and share it with my neighbours. You can run a Cat cable 100m with no loss

You'd also want the Ethernet adapter for it, and some networking knowledge and I'd suggest a server for routing etc for flexibility, but yes.

You can potentially run a CAT5e cable up to 100m without noticeable loss, but there are plenty of other options for getting connectivity between buildings depending on location.

You can use fibre transceivers, SDSL (to use a single copper pair of wires) and similar , MoCa, PtP wireless, PoE-powered Ethernet switches to act as repeaters etc. You can also use this to bond with additional connections (5G, VDSL) for failover etc.

If they charged £30 a month 80% of the population in the uk/us/eu would have it making Starlink Billions each month but like most greedy companies they would rather sell less units for more money. Look at Shien’s business model, it works. (edited)

Actually it’s the laws of physics and licensed radio spectrum which dictate how much capacity can be reasonably sold at each location, without contention making it unusable.

How on earth has this nonsense got to near 500 degrees on a deal website is wild. £75 a month for broadband, only useful if you live in literally the middle of nowhere

Don't get me wrong, I'm no particular fan of these. I don't want or need one. Yes, they are expensive, tbf I'm sure it cost a few bob to set the whole system up. But they most definitely fulfil a need. It's a very specific solution for a specific problem. It's a game changer for some. It is literally life changing for some people and communities.
It is a good deal as they have previously sold for a lot more.
Don't hate a product because it doesn't fit your bill.

I’ve installed a couple of these and are great if no other option. Speeds do seem to fluctuate quite a lot. Last one they were getting between 40 and 150Mbps

We live on a pretty remote island in the South Atlantic Ocean where internet costs almost £100 per month and is ridiculously slow.
It’s so bad that the local Government have banned Starlink as people were beginning to realise there are other options.
    I’d have this if I could ☹️

I really hope a lawsuit can turn that around, what a corrupt government move (edited)

    How much is the subscription?
  12. TryLean's avatar
£75pm in UK, €40-50 in EU, $125 in US. Supply and demand at work. Obviously more for roaming package.
    benfisher1991's avatar
Sad really. The people who need it most have no alternatives.

Saying that I'd pay the money Vs getting 3mbps adsl
  13. Mister_Unknown's avatar
For satellite link latency is very good I would say
    vandelay's avatar
That’s one of the big advantages of Low Earth Orbit satellites. At an altitude above the Earth of 550km (as opposed to 35,786km for geostationary satellites) the network latency can be under 10ms.
  14. pwel's avatar
It's mind-boggling how many people cannot understand that this is not an alternative to landline or mobile broadband. If you have access to any of those, you have 99% no need for this product. Even if it was £20/m still you have no use for it. It's only for those that live in the middle of nowhere, with no decent cable speed and no mobile signal. That I assume are quite a few in UK, as when I used to go hiking about in the countryside, a lot of times I had no signal.
I'm not a huge fan of the artificial stars littering the night sky, but the tech and the whole concept, having unlimited data sat connection at decent speed for a few quid, was a far away dream just a few years ago, and available only for commercial/military/special purpose use a few years before that. Starlink have had this offer on there site for weeks. Its Very expensive.

It seems a good deal as this only goes for over 400

A good deal if you absolutely can not get any other broadband.

Is there no 2 month subscription with this like the costco deal??
    Deedie's avatar
    doesnt look like it
  18. 9El9Nino9's avatar
can get refurbished for less if this really needed.

its just too expensive in the UK. i don't get how if i live in Africa i pay half the price.
as someone has said, if you can split this between a few neighbours, it'll be great.
Smarty works well in my area so i'm thankful for 3 and their 5G masts. not everyone is fortunate enough.
