The Sentier 29 VR rolls upon 29" wheels and features a durable and lightweight aluminium frame with low, long and slack geometry, giving you a superb balance of agility, control and all-day riding comfort. Engineered to offer excellent performance anywhere in the hills, this MTB is armed with 130mm-travel Marzocchi Bomber Z2 suspension forks and a Shimano Deore 1x11-Speed groupset that includes an 11-51 Tooth wide-range cassette and hydraulic disc brakes. It also rolls upon Tubeless Ready WTB i30 TCS 2.0 rims wrapped in fast-rolling and high-grip Schwalbe Magic Mary and Hans Dampf tyres.

Agile, Fast and Versatile Hardtail Mountain BikeThe Vitus Sentier VR Mountain bike has quickly established itself as a classic hardtail, having amassed something of a cult following thanks to its confident and playful character. But it’s not just the people’s champion. The Sentier is a multi-award winner that continues to prove itself out there on rough trails and exciting adventures. A hardtail that won’t shy away from technical descents and aggressive riding, it never fails to find that flow and excite. Snappy, obedient and nimble, like a hardtail should be, yet also hungry to go all-in where things get steep and challenging. Where other hardtails get weak at the knees.

Let’s be clear. The Sentier is not just some cheeky upstart or pretender. Far from it. From head to toe, this bike boasts reliable components to keep maintenance low and deliver the finest trail riding experience. The real deal. The longer, slacker geometry gives you the control and stability to cruise the tricky sections, while the shorter stem keeps the handling precise through tight turns.

From the dropper post to the 1x11 speed Deore drivetrain and the 130mm Marzocchi Bomber fork, this mountain bike is ready for full-on, fun-filled sessions. The double-butted aluminium frame and quality components are ready to go straight from the box, but as you get to know your Sentier, as you become addicted to its personality, this becomes the perfect chassis to put your own stamp on. To personalise and customise your hardtail setup.

For full-day sessions with mates. For cruising the climbs and loving the descents. For balance and poise with no loss of entertainment. For keeping the fun factor turned right up. Any time on-board the Sentier is playtime.

When you order a bike, one of our trained mechanics will carefully prepare and pack your bike for shipping. Upon delivery, the assembly is simple and all necessary tools and plastic pedals are conveniently included in the box.

Finally bit the bullet on this after doing loads of research and not learning much! Can anyone recommend some decent pedals and whether or not the slime inner tubes are good Vs going tubeless? Not ridden a mountain bike for over 20 years so should be fun Any help on here greatly appreciated as always! (edited)

There are other bikes included in the sale if you use the filter as well, there may be some better deals but not really looked at them all as I was blinkered and only interested in this one!

Bought this a few weeks back. I wanted to change the front chainring to a bigger one to get a bit more speed, plus I wasn't using at least 4 of the gears. Had an absolute nightmare, one of the bolts holding the chainring on was cross threaded. It rounded off as it was so tight, so I used a bolt remover which snapped the head off, tried drilling it out which hasn't worked, so ended up getting a new crank

Everything else is great, although I cut the handlebars to 700 as they were too wide for me.
I don't really notice the cables tbh. What I would do is buy some helicopter tape if you don't want any scratches on the paintwork.

How it compares to Giant talon 0? Got talon 2 and probs will upgrade during autumn /winter sales.

I generally ride on light traills, tarmac gravel etc. So probably looking for XC bike (dont want hybrid / road bike).

Read that talon 0 is nice in terms of xc but I see this vitus is generally cheaper.

Also my current talon gave 2x8 gears and every new/better bike is 1x10 or 12. Won't it be much worse on normal roads than my current talon?

Received my VR yesterday and set it up last night, didn't have time for more than a 5 minute ride to make sure I'd not missed anything obvious. So don't have a good idea on what it's best suited to yet.

I do have an old Scott Scale 960 XC bike tho, and can say for certain that the VR geometry is definitely not the same as something designed for XC. From what I read prior to buying it was suggested it suited XC and trails more than downhill and jumps. Guess I'll find out soon

As for gearing, I'd hazard a guess your 2x8 may be better for both climbing and top speed, but really depends on the cassette and chain rings. With a 1x chainring you'll have fewer intermediate gears but could potentially still have higher top speed or better climbing depending on the biggest/smallest cog on the cassette and teeth on the chainring.

My XC has a 3x and the speed difference on roads vs my pals trail bikes is stark, I can fly away with the huge front chainring.

You can use a calculator like this one to compare the gear ratios on this VR to the Talon 0 and your Talon 2:

Not quite the £650 it was on offer a couple of weeks ago.

I was indecisive back then and regrettably missed out.

I'd expect to see a lot more bike offers in September and October though, so indecision kicking in again

Still a great price for a superbly specced bike. Forks alone are a £500 retail price item. (edited)

The longer you wait, the more rides you will miss.

All sizes seem to be out of stock

    I was wrong!
The wiggle site had a problem earlier where almost everything in the sale was showing as out of stock, but it seems to be sorted now.

Why does SALE10 work for the 29 VR but not the 27 VR?

Is this best bang for buck? Just want it for taking kids out and going on bike rides with father in law, not going jumping or difficult trails etc. Cheers guys, my bike knowledge is pretty much zero.

It's a very good spec for the money in my opinion. I don't think it's an aggressive geometry from what I've read tho, suited to XC (cross-country) and trails, less so downhill and bike park jumps. But someone who's actually got the bike in hand might be able to give a more accurate idea of it's suitability. I'm still waiting for delivery.

You could maybe save yourself a bit and get the sentier here:

Don't know if you'd get the benefit of the better fork, but if you wanted a dropper post later on it's an easy fit and they can be had for £50-£80.
