what's the sweet spot for trade ins (edited)

Buy from curry's. Buy instore, ask them for a price match against Amazon. Have a brand new 18 quid phone from argos in your pocket, for trade in. Accept £1 for the phone, and get a £125 voucher to use immediately against the pixel 7. Walk out paying about 350 quid for the pixel, and 18 quid for the argos phone.

Claim online for your free pixel buds from Google.

Curry's trade in accept any phone, including cracked screen, that's less than 7 years old. If you've got one, great. Otherwise argos new boxed unlocked phone for £18 is the easiest way.

I was so close to buying this phone a few days ago until I did more research and found out that the data connection/moden is a bit rubbish compared with other manufacturers. A smartphone is not much good if you're out somewhere and the phone is struggling to pick up a connection. Really quite annoying as my last phone was a Pixel and I liked the price-point and everything for this phone. I'll be paying a bit extra and will get the Samsung S23 instead when a good deal comes up as at least they can do the basics and make sure that the phone doesn't have a rubbish modem/signal. Have a look for yourself if you don't believe me. It would have been perfect for me too if it just had signal as good as all other phones.

Haven't experienced any reception issues with the Pixel 7. Actually it is pretty good. Much better than my old galaxy s20 fe 5 g. Also the Google integration and extra functionality is amazing. The camera is better than the much more expensive alternatives.

FWIW, same price for the other phone colours which are all in stock currently

Just got Currys to Price Match for £473.62, for the black one, on the WebChat.
They also do the free buds and the +£125 trade in, so should come in at £347.62 with a knackered old phone for trade-in.

Does currys give free buds or have to claim through google ?

I wonder if you could buy this and then claim the pixel buds on top of that to get 2 pairs

From other thread, Amazon is not eligible seller for Buds claim.

I’m picking up a black one from Curry’s next week for £374 from trading an old work phone in that doesn’t work. Buds are via redemption though

Currys price matched me this with the Amazon for an extra £34.88 rounded to £35 so phone was reduced £125 + £35 + trade-in value of phone

    I bought it straight away
    Robdataff's avatar
Don't forget to claim your earbuds.

Wasn't this much cheaper from Currys even if you traded in even a very low value phone?
    Njay's avatar
It was as you could get £175 bonus when trading in a phone but it's been reduced to £125 same as John Lewis and previously Amazon (not sure if still the case as can't see it now) so just depends on which one offers the most for the phone you want to trade in.

Edit: actually Amazon do still offer £125 trade in boost but only if you buy the pixel 7 on its own for £480.

So its still cheaper overall for phone at JL and Currys as the phone will be £499 (you might even get a price match on £480 Amazon price) less £125 boost less £1 min for traded in phone. I make that £374 plus you can send off for the free buds with the other two retailers.

If Amazon still offered the trade boost on this bundle it would be ok but without, it doesn't make this a good deal in my opinion (edited)

Can you return the buds for a £119 refund making the phone cheaper?
    Afrim_Ramaj's avatar
You do realise that the buds are free so what in god's name will make you think they will give you £119 for something that they give for free. Come wake up

I can't seem to drag myself away from my Xiaomi mi 11 .

Financially speaking, is it worth trading in my Pixel 5 for the JL or Curry's deal, or should I just buy a cheapo phone for the £1 minimum trade in and sell the Pixel 5 elsewhere? Any help appreciated. X

If you think your pixel is worth more than £18, then that's the price of the cheapest new phone I can buy on the high Street. Argos.

If you think the pixel is worth less than £18, trade it in.... I'd keep it in a drawer for that, in case your new phone falls in a pint or something.
