About this deal

Introducing Kinect for Xbox 360You are the controller. No gadgets, no gizmos, just you!Kinect brings games and entertainment to life in extraordinary new ways without using a controller. Imagine controlling movies and music with the wave of a hand or the sound of your voice. With Kinect, technology evaporates, letting the natural magic in all of us shine.

What is Kinect?Magic Disguised as TechnologyWith Kinect for Xbox 360, you are the controller. Easy to use and instantly fun, Kinect gets your whole body in the game. Imagine controlling movies and music with the wave of a hand or the sound of your voice. With Kinect, technology evaporates, letting the natural magic in all of us shine. And the best part is Kinect works with every Xbox 360.

Motion SensorKinect uses a motion sensor that tracks your entire body. So when you play, it’s not only about your hands and wrists. It’s about all of you. Arms, legs, knees, waist, hips and so on.

Skeletal TrackingAs you play, Kinect creates a digital skeleton of you based on depth data. So when you move left or right or jump around, the sensor will capture it and put you in the game.

Facial RecognitionKinect ID remembers who you are by collecting physical data that’s stored in your profile. So when you want to play again, Kinect will know it’s you, making it easy to jump in whenever you want.

Voice RecognitionKinect uses four strategically placed microphones within the sensor to recognize and separate your voice from the other noises in the room, so you can control movies and more with your voice.

Why Kinect?
  • Full Body Gaming- Controller-free gaming means full body play. Kinect responds to how you move. So if you have to kick, then kick. If you have to jump, then jump. You already know how to play. All you have to do now is to get off the couch.
  • It's All About You- Once you wave your hand to activate the sensor, your Kinect will be able to recognise you and access your Avatar. Then you’ll be able to jump in and out of different games, and show off and share your moves.
  • Use Your Voice -Kinect uses advanced entertainment technology to respond to the sound of your voice. Just say “Xbox” to reveal a series of voice commands. So you’ll be able to control HD movies with the sound of your voice, no remote required.
  • Endless Entertainment -Enjoy HD movies, music and sports through Xbox LIVE without any extra accessories. Just use a wave of your hand or the sound of your voice to enjoy endless entertainment.
  • Something For Everyone- Whether you’re a gamer or not, anyone can play and have a blast. And with advanced parental controls, Kinect promises a gaming experience that’s safe, secure and fun for everyone.
Directions for use:
  • Kinect needs to see your entire body to function as intended
  • Clear the area between the sensor and the players.
  • One player: Stand back 6 feet (1.8 m).
  • Two players: Stand back 8 feet (2.4 m).
  • Make sure that the play space is at least 6 feet (1.8 m) wide and not wider or longer than 12 feet (3.6 m).
  • Make sure the room has bright, even lighting

There's supposed to be a way to get these working as 3D object scanners. That's why I got mine a while ago, but not been able to try as yet.

I've seen similar things, and also somebody using one to gesture control a PC. There's some quite sophisticated tech inside these, even though it's a good few years old now. I bought one very cheaply quite a while ago. I've got a night vision scope and through that I can see the thousands of tiny dots the Kinect projects all over the room.

Anyone know how these can be powered?

Needs a PSU unless you have the Xbox 360 e which it can connect to directly for power.

Yeah this one even had a motor for tilting - great price for modders - there are a lot of projects for this outside of the Xbox world!

This is real tempting to use as a 3d scanner, but I'm not sure if the v2 is better for that, and whether it's worth getting it with the psu

Is this actually worth it? The replacement PSU looks pretty pricey and it sounds like the 360 kinect can't be powered by a standard usb port?

Hahaha, just read this tag line "With Kinect, technology evaporates, letting the natural magic in all of us shine."
I guess it could be changed to "With Kinect, technology evaporates" as Microsoft dropped support for this and the second generation (I suppose not many games tookj advantage of it - however the one that did was so subtle I missed it - Alien Isolation! In your living room the Alien can hear you scream!)

I used my Xbox One Kinect on my Pc for elite dangerous. It was more hassle than what It was worth.

I’ve had an Xbox one kinekt gathering dust for years because I never got round to getting the pc adapter for it. My exact use case was head tracking for sim games, is it really not worth it? Shall I not bother picking up a usb adapter?
