    İs lyca better than lebara?

Lebara has WiFi calling, Lyca does not. Also Lyca 5G only works on Android.

Lyca has roaming in Switzerland, but a lower EU cap of 3.5GB Vs whole allowance on Lebara.

Other than that it's basically just O2 v Vodafone.

No tethering allowed according to T&Cs, Lebara allows it though I believe.

No buts it's worth buying a 2nd SIM for a dual SIM phone. Double data.

Taking it out for my daughter starting Uni in September. Can I activate later or does it start immediately?

Unless she wants to keep her number, then she can start now, in time to get used to handing out the new number, and you keep the loaded old sim in the car for emergency.
    Or...
Start the new sim for the month in another phone. If you like the reception etc then jump. If not then you have only lost 95p and no inconvenience

Be aware that with Lebara, while roaming, received and emitted phone calls are part of your 100 international minutes allowance - once used that's it, you have to buy international minutes. (edited)

I think Lebara provides a better deal though, I think Vodafone is superior to O2 as well

I guess it depends where you live. For me, O2 is miles superior.

and this isn't on Vodafone either, which is a good thing - their network is here (although the Lebara mobile app is much better than the Lyca one, talk about swings and roundabouts).

    Anyway, heated.

Better than this that runs on crappy o2

Can someone please advise if you can put a data cap on this or if the internet stops working when the data runs out. My kids will end up going over their data allowance if it continues to work once the 12GB is up and I don’t want any out of allowance charges!
    Jarosik's avatar
    Jarosik
You can't go over or incur more charges. It's PAYG essentially. Once you run out of data, it will prompt you to top up/add a data bolt-on.

Same goes for the Lebara offer which is 1p. The key difference to note is Lyca uses O2 masts and Lebara uses Vodafone so choose based on whichever gives you the best coverage. (edited)

Can someone please confirm the actual amount Lyca took while buying this deal? I know Lyca's page is still saying 95p, but when I just paid for this, they charged 1p!

If you got charged 95p, they've started price matching Lebara! (Maybe you can ask for the £5.64 back. Lebara refunded recent buyers when they dropped to 1p)

Update: posts here suggest they are automatically refunding the difference. 1p price war!

    Well then,where do I start.
Tried to order 1 sim on saturday (the £1.30 one) and ended up with 3.
Cancelled 2 via the phone before all 3 sims turned up that morning.
Decided to use 1 out of 3, not being told which 2 had been cancelled.
Got sort of registered and requested my old number to be ported.
Got my old number ported this afternoon but cant use any MSE Deal code number to register.
Currently able to receive calls on my old number BUT can't make outgoing calls.......
2 hrs till they fix it apparently...........
Tick Tock but last time I switched to them was seemless so I'll hang it out (edited)

    I'm 2 months into my £1.99 5gb Lebara plan.
Tempting to jump now for the half price deal, or buy and hold in time for discount ending.
Just how long can they keep this up?

I'm just waiting, Lyca might match it anyway. I'd rather port for a month than try to do a quick double port as a few years ago I tried to do that and ended up with a split port and it was a total nightmare.

Anyone know how they deal with EU data roaming?

For example, Lebara averages your domestic data and that's what you're allowed to use abroad - which is pants if you're always on wifi domestically but can't do that abroad. So on paper the lebara sims looked really good for me, but in reality would be rubbish.

    TIA (edited)

Just received my £1.30 sim today and activated...i think. Can anyone share how they successfully activated their sim? I have done what it says and it says I have 12gb but 0 and 0 for voice and texts.. Also I can top up using the app, how does that makes sense? Am I not just paying 1.30 a month? Not sure sure I understand these sims compared to others. Been on ee since it started. (edited)

Lyca seems to offer fairly reasonably priced bolt-on data packages for use outside EU, while lebara does not. Significant difference for me. (edited)

Where can I find these bolt-ons?

    EDIT: Never mind, found 'em.
Checked rates for UAE, £25 for 250MB 🤒
Ironically it's cheaper just to pay the payg roaming rate of 5p/MB! (edited)

Signed up for this, received my sim fine and ported from Lebara ok but problems then started with imessage a facetime not activating and unable to send text messages. I've contacted customer support but heard nothing back (got bored waiting on the phone) so going to jump back to Lebara 1p deal.

I have an unlimited SIM with Voxi for £10 a month (they use Vodafone same as Lebara) which I use as my main internet in a Huawei router, but I need a separate SIM that uses O2, because you can't play games on Vodafone due to NAT type issues, but it works fine on O2. I bought the £1.30 p/m deal posted a few days ago, for 35p I'm not fussed about cancelling anyway.

Already on Vodafone but this could be a good second SIM to use.
Would rather this than Lebara since I'm already on Voda, so I could have more range of coverage.
Otherwise I think I would prefer Lebara over Lyca.
