I used to use Kaspersky a long time ago, but friends who work in data security warned me a long time ago that using it was risky. I think since then, many organisations have advised against using it. I use Avast now and I'm happy with that.

If you think a “ free” product in terms of what it scans and the currency of its definitions is the same as a reputable paid for product, respectfully, good luck. It’s better, usually, that nothing but not the sa,e.

Before I buy, can you explain the difference between the antivirus engines and how the definitions are different?
What does a paid give in terms of detection that free doesn't?

New version Kaspersky Premium 2023 is out now for the same price, don't know what the difference is.

Edit: According to their website questions and answers section " Can I still purchase Kaspersky Total Security? This product is no longer available and has been replaced with our new plans: Kaspersky Standard, Kaspersky Plus, and Kaspersky Premium." (edited)

Total Security should upgrade to "Plus" version (not premium). This is done automatically when you install this version or I have read users reporting, they used the license key to activate the plus version directly.

Been using Kaspersky for years now. It's excellent. But my subscription expires in a week and I'm not renewing it. I'm going for Avast Free instead. Niggling doubt at the back of my mind that if it chose to one country could cripple every device using Kaspersky.

I've been using Avast Ultimate for quite some time now and never had any issues. I usually buy a year from the likes of kinguin for less than a fiver.

My grandad got this slightly cheaper. Some man rang him up from India and agreed to clear his pc of spyware at the same time. He was so impressed he sent them £200 quid by Western Union

You don't need to pay for an Antivirus if that's all you want out of it, BitDefender free for example has the same antivirus engine built in as the paid version, mostly the paid version's just give you a few extra tools that 99% of people don't need.

Save your money, the free version and paid offer the same level of protection.

Just 2 days ago prices of the new Kaspersky versions were much cheaper. Got Premium 20 devices / 2 years for £32.99 now £49.99. If you buy key code for KTS this can be now used in in new Kaspersky Plus. If you have installed KTS already you can install Kaspersky Plus on top of KTS as this will be treated as as an update. The only limitation will be VPN limited to 200mb per day as this is what you get in KTS. If you buy Kaspersky Plus code you will get unlimited VPN.

Just to clarify Kaspersky Total Security (KTS) is not the same as Kasperksy Plus but KTS key codes can activate Kaspersky Plus but VPN will be limited as per the above.

On their website Kaspersky is promoting new versions and their new functionality like unlimited VPN. (edited)

I thought with Windows 11 antivirus softwarewas pointless. I have been told that these antivirus software is worse than good. Giving you false information and slowing down your computer

A few years ago many governments, companies and organisations stopped using Kapsersky Anti virus (and Barclays stopped giving it away to its customers) due to concerns over information leakage (which I researched for myself and personally agree with the decision).

The fact that people will now use a VPN (which has access to even more information) completely blows my mind lol.

My advice is DONT BUY, but it is still a free country (unlike Russia) so the choice is yours!

This one on Amazon is saying you only get "200MB of data traffic protected per device, per day". But on the Kaspersky website they state "unlimited super fast VPN". Is this product not the 2023 version as stated?

I've tried a few paid antivirus like Norton, McAfee and some free ones like AVG. They all had one thing in common - having them on my computer felt like a virus! I've given up now and stuck with Windows Defender with no problems at all.

I don't use the pc that much these days. My renewal is due next month, thanks for the avast recommendations I'll give it a try.
