How does this compare to the P30? Trying to decide if it's a worthwhile upgrade...
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
I recently grouchily upgraded from Mate 20 Pro, it's an improvement pretty much across the board, usually substantially so, but I think it's going to hinge almost entirely on whether you get battery anxiety. I can't see myself keeping the phone long-term for that reason, if it's poor now what's it going to be like in a couple of years? However in terms of bang-for-buck... counting the value of the Pixel Buds Pro, even a cheap cash sale of those puts my outlay at comfortably below £300. If bang for buck is your top concern it's bonkers, zero regrets.

My biggest concern was losing optical zoom, but the Pixel 7's 2x digital zoom is much better than the M20Pro's 2x optical zoom, to my frank astonishment. The Pixel 7 Pro rear uses the same optical/digital combo zoom at 2x, so the difference is only actually at 3x-5x.

Similarly, though the Mate20Pro's optical Macro lens is far better, that only applies at 1x as the Pixel 7's digital zoom is so good that it substitutes and eclipses the 1x Macro when zooming beyond that. If you understand me!

For those reasons, I don't regret sticking with the standard 7 camera considering the price difference.

It's a bit buggy but I don't think that's a fair comparison, the Huawei had a long time to find equilibrium and updates were neither as frequent nor as extensive. The software is broadly such a huge leap forward to use but it's one of those things that's hard to quantify or put a value on.

I got the P7 Pro from the Currys trade in deal with the buds

been using it a couple of weeks alongside my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

    p7 pro:

battery life is not that great. For a premium phone I’d expect it to be better. Even my iPhone with 85% health is better

Face recognition is hit and miss and never works in low light.

touch sensor even with Whitestone dome protector (£40 ish!) works most of the time. Face ID on iPhone much better though.

Massive plus for the Pixel phones is barebones android and the Now Playing feature which I don’t think exists on other androids?

Much prefer the almost flawless iOS keyboard which seems to autocorrect and guess the right word 99% of the time, but the pixel keyboard comes fairly close.

google pay nfc sensor is way too sensitive and I find it’s ‘paid’ when I’ve barely taken the phone out of pocket with no chance to select which card I want. Apple Pay is miles ahead.

camera is better on the P7 Pro if that’s what matters to you

overall, as always it’s what you use the phone for the most and what matters to you. I’m still in two minds whether to stick with or sell the p7 pro.

lots love it, lots don’t. It’s what you use the phone for the most that will make your decision. (edited)

Use SwiftKey on android. I can't stand Pixel/other keyboards. Highly customisable too.

ROYAL50 (£50 off) works on new order

Upgrade from Pay Monthly though right not PAYG?
  8. The_Hoff's avatar
Does this route to purchase not have a damaging effect on your credit rating or am I making that up?
    dkj255's avatar
Yes it may have since it does a credit check (it is after all a contract SIM/pay monthly plan, even if you only pick the 1mth one).

    Nice deal

How to cancel straight away without paying the £9 for the first month?
    MrSwitch's avatar
    Author
Di it on arrival of the sim, stac or pac it out to a new number, if you do get charged for the time you have the sim, you will need to ring o2 to get that refunded, will be pennies i'm guessing
  10. ishybon's avatar
If that trade in rebate was still going this would be deal of the year!

Still very hot as it’s the best price I’ve seen without any hoops to jump through.
    TheOak's avatar
Paid 325 for the pixel 7 with the buds, trading in an iPhone 3G at currys, think that was even better!
  11. DanCole89's avatar
I think the code has been pulled, can anyone confirm if it is still working for them?

Also o2 customer service are a different breed, constant lies. I had an agent confirm in writing that the CHARLES100 code worked for him, and another confirm they can offer discounts of £50, £100 or £150. But then other agents deny it. They are SO frustrating
    Andrisakins's avatar
It was a horrible experience trying to cancel the 1 month rolling contract too. They would connect me back and forth 5 times before disconnecting my call. The second attempt I (hopefully) managed to cancel it. Didn't receive any email confirmation, so still not sure.

They kept pretending that they don't fully understand what I'm asking and trying to lie to me that I can't cancel it. I had to repeat multiple times things like "phone is fully paid off" or "I have not used or even received the SIM card". It's like talking to a con man. They use different tactics and tricks to stale the process and keep my money.
  12. brailer's avatar
Hello. I don't understand this. It says if you cancel you have to pay the device plan?.
    DealJourno's avatar
The device plan is the cost of the phone which you pay upfront (£387, or less if any codes still work).

I was lucky enough to get this for £287 last week. Got the phone this morning and cancelled the sim immediately.
  13. nectar's avatar

I click get deal and can not scroll likr you said. its there plans or make my own. all have £30 upfront and minimum 3 month>?
    nectar's avatar
You need to scroll down a fair bit to where it says ‘pay for your device in full’ and click on ‘see our plans’ under that and then you will find it there
  15. fishwibbler's avatar
My observations following a few days of use of the Pixel 7.
The fingerprint sensor is as bad as they say, it's optical and not ultrasonic like on Samsungs and seems a step backwards. It struggled not only on 5G, but also on 4G when I stepped it down. Connection loss where I've never had that before on the same sim. Also, signal drop out in my front room using WiFi when I've got BT Whole Home discs dotted round. It's also thicker and heavier than my S10+, the battery lasting about the same (bear in mind the S10+ battery is smaller). The charging speed on the pixel is marginally quicker only, but I could live with that. The back button is on the "wrong" side.
I'm back on my S10+ and the Pixel is going back.
YMMV of course, I gave it a good chance but am ultimately disappointed. Thanks for the deal Switchy, the price is amazing although sadly it's not the phone for me.
  16. Richard_Hunter's avatar
Does anyone have any current experience of the fingerprint sensor on these? I keep holding off going for one of these due to reported problems with Fingerprint ID on Pixel phones.
    TheCostOfLies's avatar
Never had a problem on my Pixel 6. I honestly never used one that was more reliable.

No idea what the issue was, but I assume a software update has fixed it, or people just don't know how to add their print properly?

Is this worth double the cost of say a Xiaomi f4?.
    dkj255's avatar
The POCO F4 (I assume that's what you mean), is currently £379 and I'd say this is the better phone - especially as you can get it even cheaper if you use the code I posted below.
  19. AdrianJones12's avatar
Is this better than a Xiaomi 12t pro ?
    Crossbow's avatar
Camera will be better on this...
    12T Pro - 129 dxomark.com/xia…st/
    Pixel 7 - 140 dxomark.com/goo…st/
Specs compared gsmarena.com/com…903 - the Xiaomi is better in some other ways like better screen quality, larger screen, much faster charging (but no wireless), 8K video, better sound (most likely), infrared port - so it may boil down to what your main preferences are in a phone.

got a pixel 7 pro. seriously disappointed.
    - poor battery life
    - very laggy
-washed out colors ( check youtube).
    - major wifi issues

The above is based on personal experience. (edited)

If camera is important to you go for the Pixel 7 Pro, the lack of telephoto lens on the base 7 is awful

Has to be the most frustrating phone I've ever owned. Fingerprint reader is a joke. Constantly typing my pin number in, as it doesn't read my fingerprint. Only got 23 months left of the this crap!

My new phone arrived today and managed to cancel £9 rolling 30 day sim contract free of charge. Didn't even open the sim just rang O2 on 03448090202 from my 3 mobile phone. Passed from first customer service rep to another one so be prepared to spend 10 minutes on this . Cancelled without charge under 14 day cooling off period.

Further to my previous comment on £100 off upgrade
    hotukdeals.com/com…139

I ordered yesterday and it is being delivered today. My plan has changed to 1GB today..

And I am able to upgrade again now using the £100 off code. So it looks like you can get more than 1 phone by just upgrading the next day..
    DanCole89's avatar
I am looking to purchase 2 pixels (one for me and one for partner). We both currently have very good SIMO deals with o2 so have no desire to change our tarrifs (I will call them Plan A and Plan B for ease). So if I have understood correctly, I can do the following:

1 - Purchase 1 x pixel 7 (Pixel A) as a new connection on my account. £387 upfront with a 1GB plan for £9 a month. As this is a new connection (Plan C), I can use the code for £50 off.
2 - Once I have received Pixel A, I can upgrade Plan C to another Pixel 7 (Pixel B) with 1GB plan (Plan D), again at £387 + £9pm, but this time as it is an upgrade of Plan C I can use the £100 code. Sounds like I might have to wait a day to do this?
3 - As I have upgraded Plan C, that will no longer exist and so on my account I will have 3 connections in total - the original Plan A and Plan B, plus 1 new connection (Plan D).
4 - Go on my o2 and click on 'thinking of leaving us' to obtain a STAC code for Plan D. Get a cheap sim, and give to that netwowk, which will kill Plan D.
5 - I can use our original plans (A and B) on the 2 new pixels

    Have I missed anything?
  36. Terrar89's avatar
Brilliant. Thank you for sharing the deal. Took a four minute phonecall to cancel the sim. Nice and easy.
    Terrar89's avatar

  37. dandee's avatar
Does the 100 code work with rolling (cancel anytime) contracts?
    Xaar's avatar
It should but will upgrade you to the new contract.. which you can still cancel
  38. orlovekat's avatar
Any codes working? Worth the upgrade from one plus 8t?
    DanCole89's avatar
I've had OnePlus phones for a few years now but have decided to switch away. Whilst the phone is great when everything works, I've found if things go wrong it's not easy or cheap to get things fixed as it's less popular.

Wanted to stick with android and got a pixel 7 yesterday, and first impressions are very good!
  39. Si1969's avatar
So any P30 Pro owners on here who made the switch? Just wondered what your thoughts are.

Any P30 Pro owners who didn’t switch like me, and what are you waiting for (phone to die, Pixel 8 Pro)?
    djembo's avatar
So had a few days with the Pixel 7 and as I thought, largely a sideways move.

The Pixel feels noticeably snappier and has a great user interface. Only real disappointment is the relatively slow charging.

Still, I feel like it was the right choice given the lack of support for the P30 pro now.
