Would recommend staying away from this VPN

PureVPN does keep logs even though they state they have a zero log policy.

For anyone interested just type "Ryan Lin PureVPN" into Google (edited)

A lot of people aren't bothered about logs, more for geo restrictions unlocking

Just disabled my PureVPN subscription. It's one of the worst VPNs around.

Slow speeds, random locations (instead of connecting me to Turkey's server, it connects to Russia).

I purchased a lifetime deal for PureVPN via StackSocial when they were pretty new on the scene. PureVPN said you had to contact their customer support after 5 years to get your account extended which I thought was odd for a lifetime deal. After the first 5 years was up, they refused to extend my account date and reneged on the deal they offered via StackSocial which left a bad taste in my mouth. I wouldn't use them again if you paid me and I certainly wouldn't sign up with them if I were you. They cannot be trusted in more ways than one.

This is what happened to me too. Signed up for lifetime on stacksocial. They then said lifetime in their definition is 5 years.

Even the okampa on Star Trek Voyager lived for 7 years....Who lives for 5 years?

I've used Pure recently and it's literally the worst VPN i've ever used by far, and that includes rubbish free ones.

For one thing the windows app is abysmal. It's extremely clunky, slow, and buggy. Takes a minute or two just to connect to a server.

The speed is something that you would expect from a free VPN, it's atrocious.

And most shady of all, they literally do not allow you to cancel your subscription without speaking to support, who will stall you as much as possible to try and make you keep your sub.

Stay away from these clowns and go for something more mainstream. (edited)

So, I've been giving PureVPN a whirl for a while now, and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. The streaming experience? A total win! No buffering, pure binge-watching bliss especially for Netflix. However, had a few glitches with server connections and things can get slow outside of streaming. Props to their awesome customer support though – they've been a lifesaver. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but that streaming... oh, it's a winner.

Used Nord and Pure since years, used to pretty choppy but they have masively improved. Atleast lets me watch Netflix and access my Bank when I am flying to other countries. Nord does not let me connect to UAE but Pure does and I get to talk to my kids on Facetime Got their lifetime though

102% for classic TCB accounts, but either way a great deal, can anyone comment on how good PureVPN is.

Actually a shame TCB are only offering a 1 year subscription PureVPN on their site are offering 28 month deal for about 20p per month extra.Still Quidco are only offering 18% casnback (edited)

I bought this and Windscribe at the same time. This I found had dreadful speeds, utterly dreadful. I found windscribe infinitely better. The price difference is not that much different

And Windscribe 100% contain no logging of you and do not assist law enforcement at all. PureVPN on other otherhand do keep logs and just reveal all your info at the very first request.

End of the day, give your money to Windscribe. (edited)

I've used it for over 2 years and I can't complain about anything, everything works as it should, nice and fast, regulary jump on Netflix USA for a change.

    Not a reputable/ secure VPN.

Why are Purevpn deals always promoted by hotukdeals so they are always on display before new posts, even though Purevpn is a mediocre vpn at best. Are hotukdeals affiliated with Purevpn in some way?
  16. Arber_Haliti's avatar
My 2 cents is the following:

Disclaimer: I don't use it much at all. Only when needing to activate an xbox code for a different region.

My one terrible experience is surrounding when that region is Argentina but who knows if it does the same with others. It says that it connects me but I can't do what I need to do and suspect that it doesn't actually connect me to Argentina. Bearvpn which is free up to a certain usage amount gets the job done perfectly.

I thought it was me and my technique at first. Took me ages to realise that no it's this vpn and Argentina.

Makes me wonder on what other occasions and regions it has lied about successfully connecting me. (edited)

might be OK for certain streaming sites, wouldn't use for anything you care about keeping private as said above
  18. razeman's avatar
Say if my main usage is only to circumvent being geolocated, keeping log or not wouldn't be a big issue and this would serve the purpose?
    TristanDeCoonha's avatar
Geolocation is often used due to licensing issues. So were you to watch programmes in your country that were not licensed for such, then it could be classed as piracy. If the logs show your VPN as one country, but also have your GPS record as another, then the situation could be perceived that you were circumventing copyright or similar. Were the studio to request those logs, you could be open to prosecution. But as none of us engage in such a hypothetical situation, then all is good

So I guess this VPN is not pure?
  20. Calldean's avatar
Been using PureVPN for a few years now (Got some stupid low price deal for something like five years).... beyond their program being **** (Minimise it and it stops consuming so much RAM - don't just open another window, minimise it), I've had no issues.

EDIT: Forgot you can't swear on here. Fixed. (edited)
  21. ZapGod's avatar
I only need a VPN when using a browser, so I just use the free Opera browser which has one built in.
  22. stylekings's avatar
Cheap for a reason. Internet speeds fall off a cliff and despite their claims not to keep logs, they proudly boasted of assisting law enforcement in the past by sharing a users ip details with US law enforcement. I don't condone illegal activities, but when using a VPN you expect some protection particularly from the VPN provider.

Pure VPN lies about not keeping logs

    Nice new logo tho........ (edited)
    BodisBest's avatar
They don't log activity, just ip logins
  23. Professor_Chaos's avatar
I suspect most of these vpns are affiliated with government agencies so as to catch criminals.

I only use VPN maybe once every 6 months or so to take up streaming offers so I doubt I’d be top of their wanted list
  24. g00ner82's avatar
    How pure is it ?
  25. ledigi's avatar
What, so they pay you to use this ?
    Anthonyuk's avatar
Either they have no faith in their product and want advertising by paying you to use it. Or they don't intend to honour the cashback. (edited)
  26. Professor_Chaos's avatar
This or Surfshark? Got the 100% Surfshark TCB cashback a few days ago but can still cancel that I guess ?
    SammyValentino's avatar
I've used both and I would choose Surfshark over PureVPN all day long.

I paid for a lifetime deal many years ago when they were new on the scene and they refused to extend my expiry date after 5 years were up with no explanation. StackSocial offered me a credit refund as there was nothing they could as PureVPN had reneged on their deal. I had to take the credit and purchased 3 years of Surfshark instead. Been with them ever since and never had any issues.

I had Nord but it wouldn't work for USA Amazon prime or Netflix
Maybe because I have an English account
It would say something about (don't worry you still have all your prime while you're away)
So basically allowing me the UK prime video while I'm in America instead of letting me watch American stuff
    Probably me doing something wrong
And about one quarter of my internet speed

They are apparently out of '14 Eyes' etc but act like part of the team.
    No thanks.
    The.Fat.Cat's avatar
    No they don't.
That was in 2018 when they were located in Hong Kong (i.e China).

In 2021 they moved to BVI (which is as good as other privacy friendly countries, like Panama) and now have regular audits to prove they do not keep logs or user data.

After what happened in 2018 and had no choice but to change if they wanted to stay in business.

How is it 120% cashback? Do u get another 20% as credit
    Anthonyuk's avatar
Yes, you will likely have to wait 6 months to a year for it and they will give you cash back that is 120% back that you paid. That is if they honour it though. These cash backs are a gamble as many times they don't pay out. (Talking about in general here, for example I seen a lot of complaints about Vodafone not honouring their cash back deals on here) (edited)

Old news and it's been mentioned above multiple times already.

That was when they were based in Hong Kong in 2018 (China, not the best place for a VPN if you value your privacy).
In 2021 they moved to BVI (which is a much more privacy friendly region, like Panama where Nord are).
Many of the best VPN's are also in BVI (like ExpressVPN).

They also now have an 'always on audit', so KPMG can turn up at any time and do an on the spot audit to prove they are not keeping any logs or user data.
They were the first VPN to do this and many still do not (including Nord).

They had to go through that shakeup to try and recover from the mess that data request and approval made.

Here's some info regarding the last audit -

PureVPN’s commitment to user privacyPureVPN, a premium VPN service, has successfully undergone its four consecutive third-party assessments of no-logs policy by a top auditing firm. The most recent audit took place between mid of February to the end of April 2023, reaffirming PureVPN’s commitment to its strict no-logs policy.

The assessment firm conducted a thorough examination of PureVPN’s no-logs claims to ensure the utmost transparency and credibility and presented a Technical Privacy Assessment Report. During the audit period, the assessment firm concluded that PureVPN did not record, store, or monitor any user activity, including:

    • Origin IP address.
    • Assigned VPN IP address.
    • Specific time when you connect to our VPN server.
    • Activities after you’ve connected to our VPN server.

So, that was their 4th audit (NordVPN have only had 3 done, the last was in January). (edited)
