Egypt, home of some of the world's finest treasures. Also the world's, most persistent, annoying and frankly ruthless touts, shopkeepers and taxi drivers. Be polite, people say. Just ignore them. A firm no thank you. Yeah right. Of course Karen from Surrey and Bert from London. Have never encountered, any problem.

Although this is true its all down to you not to be swindled, I was there a few years ago and they do like to try their luck, but a firm no is all it takes. Don't accept help from anyone outside the pyramids no matter how much they look like a tour guide, If you want to buy something in a shop you need to remember exchange rates, haggle and start at a very low price. This comes part and parcel for that part of the world and if you don't agree on a price you walk away. Also for taxis my tip is use uber, fixed local rates and the relative safety of knowing the driver is registered with them. Your hotel staff will also take good care of you and will warn you of anything to be aware of if asked. For the price of these flights it's worth a go if you've never been, although personally I found Luxor much more interesting than Cairo.

Priced to help make it worth the continuous hassle you will get when there from pushy and ruthless traders. Was a big put off for us, many are heartless. (edited)

I visited just a few months after the 9/11 attacks, when tourism was massively reduced. The traders were desperate so the hassle was absolutely awful- I was surrounded as soon as I got to my hotel late at night!

On the way to the pyramids a "helpful" guy tried to escort me off the bus, saying it was the correct stop- turns out he was trying to scam me- luckily the driver spotted the problem and was furious, yelling at him.

I'm sure it's not as bad as that now. (edited)

Anyone with young children gone for this deal? Would love some ideas for a 6 day itinerary

Hi! Ive just been last week with a 2yo and 8yo in tow. It wasnt ideal but manageable. We stayed no more than 3hrs in the pyramid complex despite private tour booked for 6hrs. Kids loved it but be aware of their very short attention/interest span.

If I was unburdened by responsibility, I'd be on this like a shot. I hope someone takes it.

I literally booked an hour ago. Try again tomorrow morning. Being the weekend and all, companies do some late night mainteanace.

Just got and worth the trip. Watch out for the local traders trying their luck - be stern. Once inside - take your time and walk from the Pyramids to the Sphinx and back. Nominal cost for entrance. Camel rides - should be capped - £3/ person per Govt notice at entrance. Take a large hat and suncream!

You'll find one when it's time to land, I suppose there's plenty of desert for a sand-landing as a plan b

Total trip £300+ when you include even the smallest of cases. Then add on a hotel or wherever. I don’t know how anyone can fly with just a backpack for 6 days to Egypt. (edited)
