Nice, £45.14 saving on the PS Premium if you buy the £84 credit from Shopto credit, a 37.6% saving if anyone was wondering

Should bear in mind fokes that you only get a discount if you're renewing an expired sub or upgrading your sub to a higher tier. Not if you're lengthening your sub at the same tier you're on already. (edited)

i'm so gutted by this, promo runs from 17-27th my subscription expires on the 28th. that's just cruel
  3. niknak's avatar
I just keep chipping away buying £10 or £15 PSN top ups of CD Keys whenever Quidco or TCB have those £2 off a £5 or £10 spend. Then when these deals come along I stack up the sub. Probably works out about £30 ish a year.
    1mran's avatar
Exactly this is the best approach
  4. tonyawesome69's avatar
If your PS sub lapses soon, I would suggest waiting until December/ January as the deal for new/ lapsed subs has been cheaper than Black Friday for the last 2 years.

You can check previous deals searching PS Plus. (edited)

Yep, Mine lapsed 2 months ago and I discovered I had quite the backlog of purchased games so no need to panic!

How do you use these gift cards to buy subscriptions, if you don’t already have a subscription? Don’t you need a PSN account to be able to redeem the code against on the PlayStation?
    bumbaclart's avatar
    Author
Buy the PSN credit from shopto and use "redeem voucher " on your PSN account.

Then just buy the subscription from the store and pay with PSN credit balance
  6. Robb104's avatar
Cold from me. PS screwing existing subscribers again after the recent price hikes and rubbish monthly offerings.
  7. TM1233's avatar
Sorry if this has already been answered but have I understood this correctly? I can add this onto an existing membership so long as I upgrade it, yes? If I do upgrade it, does it add on the extra months I have left on my current membership which expires in Feb 2024? (edited)
    mossmanfly's avatar
Potentially, not if it's new customers only, though. I'm sure there will be other deals that could let you stack before your subscription expires.

I wouldn't go buying PSN credit before seeing if you can buy it. Normally, as it's bought through the PS dashboard, then you could see if it allows you to buy, then if it seems ok, then buy credit and use that.

I'd be tempted to add a year myself, and mine expires Sept 2026. (edited)

    MUST READ

So... I had an issue where I thought this wasn't great for existing subscribers, but for me it worked out even better than advertised and I hope someone else can take advantage of it.

I had an Extra subscription, and I thought I'd have a year of Premium so PlayStation wants me to pay the difference between the Extra and Premium subscription and then it said I'd be charged £119.90 from the date my subscription run out and I was thinking we'll that's not much of a deal, but get this...

... The upgrade fee from Extra to Premium is discounted by 30%, and then you can buy the year of Premium for also 30% off so this is a huge saving for anyone wanting to upgrade. You could you do this method from Essential to Extra.

Premium isn't for everyone, but for me I wanted to give it a go. I hope this all makes sense and is actually good. To me it saved me money and I got a better deal than what it looks like as it's 30% of the upgrade fee, then 30% of the subscription.

If you found this useful, please give it a like and let me know.

I skipped Black Friday last year, let my PS Plus Extra lapse and come January there was a further sale...last year's prices here but I do think they were a better discount than BF 2022

obviously pre hikes that came in more recently but I'm willing to roll the dice again...or just not have PS+ with these BF 2023 prices.

    £74.99 rather £72.99 for me
  12. james.curry's avatar
If I have a 3 month premium sub that ends in January can I benefit from this?
    bumbaclart's avatar
    Author
Yes, you can stack subscriptions on top of any current subscriptions
  13. dualing.aunts's avatar
My Essentials sub expires on 19th Nov. Do I understand it correctly that I will be able to renew a couple of days later for £41.99?
    axum's avatar
See my similar post above, certainly seems that’s the case.
  14. DinoSpumoni's avatar
I only play physical games offline and barely use the PS shop other than to download demos. Is it worth me buying any of these memberships? Thanks
    HottUKDealer's avatar
Have a loom at the catalogue for PS Extra. If you haven’t already played a lot of the games I think Extra is good value
  15. jacobbbbb's avatar
I have a premium (highest tier) subscription with an expiry date: 10/12/2023. Can I benefit from this promotion? Can I buy 1 years worth of premium and add it to my existing subscription? Thanks
    SnoopZ's avatar
Not according to Sony, you cant benefit because it requires you to upgrade which you can't do.

During PlayStation’s Black Friday promotion from November 17 – 27, players who join PlayStation Plus can save up to 30% on 12-month membership plans. Current PlayStation Plus members can save 25% when upgrading a current plan to PlayStation Plus Extra, or save 30% when upgrading to PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe. (edited)

About an extra £10 over last year's price for Essential it seems (edited)
  17. Davejay81's avatar
Only buy the top tier if you're happy paying a premium to play the old games. Sure you get trials too.. but you're as well going mid tier I'd suggest.
    LAM09's avatar
There's also PS5 game streaming as well, if that's of any use to people.
  18. axum's avatar
So if my current subscription expires (which does in a couple of weeks) can I :

    1. Wait for it to expire and then get this discount
    2. Wait for it to expire and wait even longer and hope for a bigger discount
    3. If I did either 1 or 2, I’ll keep all my previous downloads etc and lose nothing other than the ability to play those games, until I renew

Are 1, 2 and 3 correct or have I got something wrong ?
    Robb104's avatar
Yes all correct. Either way, Sony are making it more appealing to let it expire and re-sign up at the next discount. You probably won't miss much in-between subs as the monthly games haven't been that great recently. (edited)
  19. ahthatsamazing's avatar
Sorry if I'm being dim here but... my current deal expires on 10th Jan

If I bought one of these NOW... would I just wait until 11th Jan then apply the code? Would that qualify as a NEW customer?
    klargon's avatar
You aren’t buying a code - it’s an immediate subscription. There might be another discount in January, but you can’t take advantage of this one.
  20. Mike_Anderson's avatar
My Subscription is due to lapse on 17th December. Does anyone know when the Xmas sale dates usually are, as I think i should probably wait til then to renew? Currently on premium, but I think I'll only renew at Extra going forward.
    itsallsotiresome's avatar
Opened mid-December last year, closed on 23rd I think. The old deal is on here somewhere.
  21. stedaman's avatar
Problem is, will this be cheaper in December again?
can we expect £35 for the lowest tier?
    davetherave00's avatar
For the last few years it's been 50% off during Xmas/early Jan, so I would expect the same again this year.
  22. CJohnston's avatar
Hey there. I've just bought a PS5 and I'm wondering what the difference is between these options. Basically I'd like to play multiplayer games online etc. Thanks.
    karlypants's avatar
I’m in the same boat. Even the basic essentials subscription will allow you to play online with games you have bought.
  23. sadman120's avatar
Annoyingly, mine is due on the 28th, hopefully I can still get it
    SnoopZ's avatar
You may get lucky with time zones if you do it just after midnight on the 28th, but you will have to upgrade your tier.
  24. TrannosaurusBex's avatar
Can anyone confirm if this has gone live? If it has, if you're on premium already I don't think there's any discount to be had from what I can see
    SnoopZ's avatar
It's live, and we already know unfortunately that anyone on Premium can't benefit or anyone who doesn't want to upgrade.

Hopefully the Christmas deal will be like last year's.
  25. Rat_fans's avatar
Sorry to be a numpty but not into gaming and have got my son a second hand PS4 to see how he gets on with it. If we have the physical game - do we still need a subscription if he wants to play online with pals ? Thanks
    SnoopZ's avatar
Yes you need the Essential Tier subscription this wil let him play online as well as get the 3 games each month he has to claim, it also gives you cloud saves. It's far cheaper to buy a 12 month sub rather than pay monthly.l
  26. villamartin36's avatar
Shopto are so bad . . I'd buy credit if not for the problem having with them . (edited)
    UKJEZZA's avatar
I bought a card from ShopTo last Christmas that was already used. They said it was Sony's issue and when I contacted Sony, they said it was ShopTo as they could see the code was taken from their server by ShopTo and used BEFORE i purchased mine. Shocking!!
  27. soap_box's avatar
For Extra, getting the £30 and the £45 card from Shopto is marginally better than getting the £80 and you don't have to overspend as much (edited)
  28. EllieMoo's avatar
Been waiting on some kind of deal like this for a while as I didn't fancy paying their hiked up prices. Tempted to get Extra as the catalogue will be great for me, not having played a lot of Sony's first party games this generation to now. What I'm not sure of is whether the Premium will be worth £11 extra.

Does anyone know if you can use wallet credit toward a subscription and if you're short, can pay the difference with PayPal or a card? It's my plan to get credit from ShopTo but less than required as I never buy digital games from the PS Store.

    Thank you.
    SnoopZ's avatar
Yes you can use wallet credit and card I believe but I just buy the top-up currency from Shopto.
  29. STRICKIBHOY's avatar
I've signed up to the ps premium and pay it by monthly DD. Should I cancelled it take this offer? I'm new to the whole PlayStation subscription services, but I'm paying a good bit more than this lol
    waqyp's avatar
Yes. Cancel the DD and buy this.

When your monthly membership expires apply the code to your account and you should get a year's subscription. Make sure to turn off auto renewal
  30. boulder1's avatar
So has it been clarified if existing Plus members are able to avail of this (ie adding to existing subs), or are they not allowed to?

    Because if not, then.....yikes.
  31. tonyawesome69's avatar
Confirmed, 25% discount is given to existing subs to extend for another 12 months.

Note - my sub ends on 13th Dec and auto renewal is turned off.

I will still wait for December/January deals for lapsed/new subs.

Was this on the app? Or on the ps5
  32. moneysavingbluebird's avatar
I've just been on and it does give 30% discount to renew although I still have a week left on my kids one. 83.99 for premium but will buy the shopto credit
  33. whites_2003's avatar
I have managed to renew before my renewal date of 29/11 by pressing Buy Again on the app. This gave me the option of adding another year from 29/11 for £74.99 (Extra Tier). Combined with the Shopto £90 voucher for £77, I have got a little account credit as well. Heat.
  34. chrissyb1981's avatar
So in on the premium tier and have always been. My subscription runs out 5th December and for my loyalty I get no discount because I'm not a new subscriber and I can't upgrade because I'm on the highest tier..... Sony really sticking it to the playstation subscriber base. ☹️☹️
    DanSmith88's avatar
Surely that's not the case. I was under the impression you'd just be locked out of playing them until you start the membership again
  35. fatgit64's avatar
I have never had a PS Plus subscription yet essentials is showing at £47.99 for me, any ideas? Do I need to do anything in particular to get the lower price? Thanks
    itsallsotiresome's avatar
Have seen a few people saying that. Personally I think the description is wrong as the PlayStation website text says save “up to 30%”. So turns out buying essential is only 20%. Has put me off this round but would need to buy pga 2k23 so still undecided. I may take it in Dec as last year they did 50% off. (edited)

I’m wanting to buy my daughter a ps5 for Christmas and I want to get her a 12 month subscription. Is there any way I can get it before she has her playstation at a good price like this? Many thanks in advance
    RicDoyle's avatar
I think you could create a profile for your daughter on the PlayStation network website/app and buy the PS Plus subscription and then log into that account on the PS5 when she unboxes it on Christmas day.

Can someone else confirm this please? Also does you daughter have a earlier Playstation console? If so, they would use the same login details for the PS5 when they get it.

You may need to wait for the morning people to respond. I keep odd hours. (edited)
  37. SlumberingPanda's avatar
If I've upgraded to extra and do a switch back to Essential, does it do it the switch straight away or at the next subscription renewal date?
    SnoopZ's avatar
Next renewal date, but you really should turn auto renewal OFF and buy top-up currency vouchers from Shopto if you want it cheaper.

I've done the same, I don't want to be on Premium so I've set it to drop to Extra in Sept 2024, then I'll buy top-ups and sub for 3 months to align with future Christmas offers. (edited)
  38. macleanie's avatar
How frustrating, I just checked and my subscription auto renewed on Nov 1st, at £49.99 Need to remember to turn that off... (edited)
    SnoopZ's avatar
That's the wrong price so DONT turn it off, it sounds like you're grandfathered into the Premium tier.
If you turn auto renewal off you will lose the deal. (edited)
  39. ArticIcon's avatar
Do we expect them to drop the price of PS Plus Plans even further now Black Friday has technically finished?
    SnoopZ's avatar
Well you still have cyber Monday so technically it'll all be finished after 27th.

If someone doesn't have an active sub come Christmas they may do a 50% off offer which I believe has happened with previous years but as this year's Black Friday offers are different don't hold your breath,
  40. steev08's avatar
Mine expires today, atm I'm not really playing anything so I'm going to take the hit and wait for any Christmas offers, I can resubscribe now for £75 (around £67 with shopto cards) but 🤞 its 50% off at Christmas.
