This is a cheap router, no doubt, and it will be decent quality for the money.

However, I am kinda not recommending it. The reason being the chuck size. It's either 6mm or 8mm, both popular in Germany and others but very much not so common here.

Years ago I bought one from Aldi and it also had max of 8mm chuck. When I came to actually do anything useful with it (kitchen worktop) it was a no go. So I sold it, unused (got more than I paid for it, strangely) and bought a 'proper' half inch chuck router from Screwfix.

This one may suit you, if you have light DIY stuff to do or fancy yourself as a carpenter. But it seems when it comes to routers, the UK is still imperial and it's either 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch. Look online for the bits if you don't believe me. 6mm and 8mm bits are like hens teeth.

So there is my warning, but also my deal, because this is a fraction of the price of other routers.

The blurb from their site is:-

    There's always one!

This can do the latest WiFi 8 DoveTail®© mode though!

im sure with a bit of engineering you could ream out the 6mm collet upto 6.35 to retrofit it for the quarter inch
    Tim_UK's avatar
You probably could but given the speed the bit turns at, this is not the wisest idea. A router bit coming loose isn’t like a drill bit coming loose !! (edited)

Thanks for the warning, it's much appreciated. BUT I'm sure Lidl would sell the right sized bits alongside it no? They usually do

Yes, they do. You can get the bits, but just go on Screwfix or Toolstation website and compare how many 6mm/8mm bits there are Vs half inch or quarter inch.

In the end I decided on splashing the money on a decent half inch router. No regrets.

I've been using this collet amazon.co.uk/dp/…tem to allow fitting of 1/4" bits. I do wonder however whether it was worth it vs buying a cheap alternative that came in imperial sizes in the first place.

I find the depth stop a bit feeble on mine as it's just plastic, tightening the screw easily starts squishing it

Would this be able to cut out hinges for door frames?

It should, but you'd probably be better off with a palm router which would be much more manageable.

You can get a Katsu clone of the Makita palm router that's very good value and well made for the money, for around the same price as this (if you shop around) that'll be much more manageable for that task, and will also take standard 1/4 inch size bits.

Likewise from me too. Cheers OP

Assuming the bit set they are selling (for £9.99) fits this then it's a good starter kit. The 3 year warrantee is good too. Great write up about the bit sizes

Nope, it doesn't fit. The Parkside is lacking the correct collet for their own bit set... Baffling.

Is it just me that found pages of 8mm bits on Amazon? 🤷‍♂️

No. People always find stuff to complain about 😜

    Thank you for the description.

I have one since a few years ago, I did used it here and there, but it was the first router I ever had. I always thought it was something strange with bits sizes and I kept ordering different collets from aliexpress thinking Its just about the collet, but never worked it out why I kept having trouble.

    This must be the explanation.

    Thank you.

Are you sure the 6mm collet won’t take 1\4” bits? I seem to think that one f my routers is stated as 6mm but I’ve never had a problem with using any bits I’ve bought in the UK.

I bought one several years ago and they do not fit

Lidl v Aldi power tool showdown.

    Which corner are you in?

I have to say that Lidl’s Parkside range is generally very good. I have a large range of these tools. Makes sense to stick to one range of you are going for the battery devices as they all use the same batteries. Actually, having said that, the lidl Parkside battery devices do come in either 12V or 20V. The 20V range (as you would expect) is the more ‘pro’ heavy duty range.

I have had one of these for several years. It's been used WAY more than I had anticipated and has done a good job.

They are not bad machines. But you'll not be using them on any worktop, which is a common application.

Will this work with Sky broadband ?
    Admee's avatar
I'm afraid not. You need to change your broadband provider and electricity provider to make it work..

Did anyone buy one this year? All local stores here didn't get them, they got the £10 accessory kit, it none of the actual router and their planogram didn't have space for them even though this was featured in their weekly leaflet. Staff at Lidl head office were absolutely rubbish. Screwfix reduced their router (maybe just to compete with the Lidl price). I've got to the point of stop buying the Lidl (and Aldi) stuff and just pay the few quid more when I want to buy the item rather than their unreliable yearly schedule. Got a little screwdriver that I've yet to use as don't have the battery for it yet... (edited)

My local store had the router and kit but I decided not to buy one in the end due to mixed reviews and the collet size.
