I purchased this from the same seller a few months ago - arrived quickly and in good condition (fully sealed, etc.). Also 5yr warranty activated without issue. Not saying everyone's experience will be the same but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them based on mine.

As for the dehumidifier it is a great machine. Sturdy, well built and extracts an incredible amount of water from the air. Game changer for drying clothes during the winter months. This is an excellent price for thius make/model.

Thanks for your reply welshtom. It's always reassuring to know that someone has had a good experience with this seller. As you say, it's no guarantee that everyone's experience will be the same, but it all helps to make a more informed decision on whether you take the chance or not

Just to let everyone know, (as the seller does have a fair amount of negative feedback on eBay) that my unit came first thing this morning from DPD. All brand new sealed in the box as you would expect. Tracking was fine and I was texted the one hour delivery slot with a security number for the driver which he asked for before he would hand over the unit.

All seems fine and I've absolutely no complaints about the service. Hope everybody else who has ordered this and the smaller units on the other posts over the last couple of days have as good an experience 🙏 (edited)

Received mine yesterday as per your one, all sealed box and set up and running in 5 minutes.
    Excellent service from the seller
It is quieter than I expected for quite a large machine compared to the smallish model it replaced and worked to bring the humidity down from 65% to 50% in a couple of hours.
It has started up a few times since then but mainly to check humidity - the compressor has only ran a couple of times for short periods. Looks to be very efficient.
Thanks Barryhotman for the heads up

    Careful here. No Meaco warranty:

    7. Meaco cannot provide Warranty service to products purchased by unauthorised resellers, auctions or resell sites. Nor can Meaco provide warranties of products bought pre owned / second hand.
    barryhotman's avatar
    Author
That's incorrect. Meaco will provide full 5 year warranty on this sale as the seller is an authorised reseller and their eBay store is a recognised and legitimate sales platform.
I understand that you are looking out for member's interests but please at least do a little bit of research before you post. This company also owns Appliances Direct (rebranded from their requisition of Trade Appliances in 2008) which are also an authorised reseller of Meaco products in the UK.

Got this on the black friday deal, it's excellent and this is a great price. As others have said, extracts loads of water, brilliant at drying clothes and the house generally feels much warmer and is easier to heat. I leave it on 24/7 at the lowest setting of 40% (laundry mode is 35% but turns the unit off after 6 hours), costs around 4p an hour. Tank needs emptying every day/day and a half. Don't know how I ever lived without it!
  5. Hd2020's avatar
Do you set it up in on room and it helps bring the humidity down of the whole house or surrounding rooms (depending on size)?

Or does it need moving around 1 room at a time?
    barryhotman's avatar
    Author
This 25l model should easily cope with the average size home.
The advice is to leave it on an upstairs landing (or hallway in a single storey home) with as many internal doors open as possible. That way the air will circulate more freely and so the unit is able to filter as much of the damp air as possible and remove the excess moisture. You will probably be shocked at just how much water it will pull from around your home, especially in the first few days and weeks of it being in operation. Once it has reduced the humidity to below the target level, it will work less often. At this stage, if you still have a problem room, or a room that you are unable to circulate the 'air' in, then place the machine in that room and run it until it is clear. The unit is quite heavy but is on castors so it can be wheeled around relatively easily although it's not ideal to be lugging it up and down stairs often. There is a digital display on it that shows the humidity level so you'll soon get a good idea of the levels in your home.
You can also buy cheap humidity/temperature displays from Amazon for £5-£10. Place one by the Meaco for a day to check that the readings are the same (or at least accurate relative to each other) and then you can easily put the Amazon display in different rooms around the house instead of the dehumidifier to check that the humidity is not excessive in one particular part of the house. Hope that helps (edited)

This model also works well in cold environments eg garages. Usually you'd need a desiccant model

Can vouch for this, have one in cold area without heating and works well.

For those that have a dehumidifier already, do you leave it turned on all the time or just when hanging washing? Do you have a timer setup? Set and forget?
    barryhotman's avatar
    Author
As long as there's no other underlying cause of the damp in your home, this unit on its own should easily be enough to reduce and control the humidity in an average size 3 bed house as long as it's situated on a landing with as many doors as possible open. You should simply leave it running constantly until the humidity is under control which may take a few days or even longer, emptying the water tank whenever needed. Once the humidity is at target it will gradually work less often and you will probably notice that you will start to empty the tank less often also.
If you don't often have the heating on the colder air holds less water than warm air so if that water isn't being taken out of the rooms, it will be deposited on walls, in soft furnishings, in carpets etc. and create the perfect environment for mould to grow. If you have problem rooms, it's also important to circulate the 'air' in them by opening windows etc if possible. If not then placing the unit in a problem room should quickly dry it out to the point where mould will no longer have enough moisture to grow. However start by targeting the whole house first as that should be the most effective and yield the best results.

    barryhotman's avatar
    Author
I'm sure there's people on here more qualified to answer this than me, but it will probably depend on the size of the area you are using it in. That being said, the bigger 25l is more efficient than the smaller versions, can draw more moisture out of the air more quickly and therefore will get you to the target humidity quicker. It will also be more efficient than the smaller units in drying clothes in the same room if that is something you think you will use it for (edited)

I bought from this retailer a few months ago, when there was 20% eBay offer. The seller was fine for me, quick delivery and finally got the 20% honoured this week.

Good to know bud. The seller doesn't have brilliant feedback which is putting some people off ordering from them I think, so it's always good to hear from people who have dealt with them first hand. My unit came this morning so no complaints from me either, so hope everyone else who has ordered since yesterday has had as good a service. Cheers

You're welcome Mohamed, hope everything goes smoothly for you.
I think you'll be shocked at just how much water this thing will pull out of the air from your home, especially if you leave it on a landing or hallway with room doors open. All that moisture contributes to damp and eventually mould in areas where there isn't much air flow, which in turn can affect the health of you and your family. You can also use it as a clothes dryer during the winter months by putting it in a more enclosed space along with your damp washing. This 25l size machine should dry a machine load of clothing in a few hours, saving money compared to using a tumble dryer or a launderette. Hope you find it useful, but I'm sure you won't regret the purchase . Take care bud

Already have a 12L one we use in utility for laundry on a clothes horse. Works a treat. Also have a 25L for general use for downstairs. Modern homes are well insulated, so keeps warm but also holds a lot of humidity. Been wanting one for the upstairs. 4 bedroom home, with 2 reception rooms downstairs. Despite these claiming to do a 4 bedroom house you need to leave all the doors open etc. Not something we want to be doing during the winter months. So been hoping to pick up a second 25L for upstairs. It's a bit awkward & heavy to be carting up & down the stairs. Ordered & Heat added. Thanks.

I ordered one yesterday evening, it arrived today morning via DPD all boxed and new.

    The warranty registered fine.

I didn't expect it to be as heavy as it is (or large) - I purchased it to use in my tanked and converted cellar. I started it as soon as it arrived at 10.30 to dry clothes, by 1pm all the clothes from a full 9kg washing machine were dry. I'm very happy with this.
  17. bayhabourbutcher's avatar
Id grab one will you can as they will likely put the price up by the end if the day

this is the lowest price Ive seen for this item since I started monitoring it last autumn - next lowest was about £40 to £50 more IIRC

combo of large 25L capacity + HEPA filter + which recommended makes this a good buy at this price

I already have a 12L one but find it struggles to get the humidity below 60% in a coldish environment in even a smallish room so have been on the lookout for a larger capacity one at a decent price for a while now (edited)

Hey guys, I am looking at this and the Phillips 800 air purifier. Is the air purifier with a dehumidifier just as good here on the Meaco as it is on a standalone air purifier? I've got asthma and allergic to pet hair, so primarily I need clean air, but with my flat being very humid, it would be nice to extract all that excess moisture from the air.
    barryhotman's avatar
    Author
Hi Lewis, the Meaco comes with a replaceable large HEPA filter but this may not perform as well as a dedicated air purifier, but it may perform well enough for your purpose. I do know that it is an excellent dehumidifier which will help reduce mould spores from forming in the first place.
I don't know enough about the Philips machine although it's not placed in the top 8 of the current good housekeeping guide. goodhousekeeping.com/app…rs/
As it's a medical matter, maybe try and seek advice from a professional body that can let you know if this would be more suitable for your needs.
