sorted byTo my memory, the smaller IronWolfs (wolves?) are actually 5900 RPM, but still capable of saturating gigabit on large files, which is all that matters for a NAS drive.
The ones I have have an annoying firmware default that when they're "idle" they scan themselves for errors. Making them noisier at idle than they are in use. I had to turn off power savings settings (so that they never idle) for the damned things to go quiet.
Nearly hit the buy button yesterday, glad I waited
Thanks OP
By way of comparison, I bought a 2TB WD red drive in 2014 and has been running fine in my synology NAS since... But looking to upgrade synology box and drives... (pref to ssd)..
Also any suggestions on which model NAS to buy?
