Have expired the barebones version as not so popular, but it included VAT charged by Aliexpress for the prices hotukdeals.com/dea…531 - £133 equivalent if paid in USD

𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗦𝗗 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗲-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 £𝟭𝟲𝟬 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 - some fee-free card/account examples include Starling, Revolut, Monzo, Clarity, Wise, Monese. Zing
    Mini guide if needed...
    1. Register your fee-free card as a payment method at Aliexpress (Ae) - will be using Revolut as an example here
    2. Change currency at Ae to USD, so you'll be checking out & paying in USD
    3. Add the item to your basket & apply all the various discount codes as applicable
    4. Check the approx current currency conversion rate USD to GBP using something like xe.com
    5. Add the necessary funds (recommended extra £1-2 worth on top) to the Revolut app from your bank account
    6. In the Revolut app, use 'Exchange' to convert GBP to USD
    7. Change the default payment currency in the Revolut app from GBP to USD
    8. Double-check you are paying in USD at Ae & the USD funds in Revolut match or exceed what you need to pay, then hit the buy button

    • If using the pre-installed Windows 11, it is highly rrecommended to wipe the entire drive+partitions & install Windows afresh on receipt
    - Due to malware concerns, do this with all computers sourced from the Far East, including those via Amazon, eBay, etc & also secondhand PCs from anywhere
    - Some additional useful related 'how to' tips by (thank you) can be found here hotukdeals.com/com…296
    - These are ok for entertainment/tweaking/home theatre purposes, but refrain from using these types of lesser-known brand PCs from the FE for anything critical or professional - e.g. for your job or run a business on. And probably even avoid any financial/crypto transactions on it altogether to be on the safest side
    - If you're concerned to the point of paranoia please refrain from buying - the only relatively "safe" brands are Apple, Intel, Dell, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Lenovo, HP, Acer, ASrock & similar longstanding & reputable brands in the UK.

Thanks went for barebones! As I already have RAM and SSD to use on this.

Would this be capable of running UNRAID so I can run Plex and Sonarr etc in dockers?
    Rid1's avatar
Yup, afaik Unraid prefers you to run it off a usb - unsure if this has changed. But if you get the intel N100 variant should run plex fine.
  3. chevli's avatar
How much power would this consume at idle with basic none moving parts? Anything that runs 24/7 needs to be efficient.
    mehdi.tlili's avatar
with 2 Hard drives, probably around 20W (2x6W for the hard drives, 6 to 8W for the rest)

That looks awesome. I'm currently using an Intel N100 mini PC with 1 x NVMe and 1 x 2.5" SATA SSD. Running proxmox on it then running my OPNsense router and my linux NAS and a docker VM on it. Perfect little device that consumes 10W total doing all that. If you have a need for low-powered linux home device they're awesome at it. You can even run Plex/Jellyfin on an LXC container and get the GPU too. Really impressive devices. I haven't seen this particular one, but it's almost identical in terms of spec to what I have.

Thank you for this. I have ordered the 5700U version and worked out at £186. What a great deivce!
    ws007's avatar
is that with customs + vat?

I ordered the Ryzen 5700u, 16GB, 1TB version. Worked out £235.05 all in. Not bad. Gona use it to play around with Proxmox and some containers/VMs. (edited)

This is a great spot, looking at XCY's Alibaba (business version of Aliexpress) listing it looks lile XCY may be the OEM for these units that are also sold as Aoostar (R1, R7), Topton etc.
I have gone with the 5700u X67-5700u version for Homelab.

Very extensive review of the Aoostar R7 (5700u) clone here:
    liliputing.com/aoo…sd/
Also mentions fan and boot drive (swap WiFi card for 2230 NVME SSD) mods in the comments.

The XCY X67-5700u may be slighly different spec than the R7 such as Ethernet chip, WiFi card.

Searching online found that the 5700u iGPU works for AMD VCN hardware video transcoding in Plex as well as Jellyfin. Plex added AMD GPU support unofficially, hardware transcoding requires a Plex Pass subscription, Jellyfin is free.

Really like the idea of this - basically a 2.5gbit router with integrated nas, and the 5700 models have plenty of cpu grunt too.

Am I being overconcerned about bios or other integrated hardware malware though? Obviously can just buy barebones so not worried about preloaded stuff on the drive, but if I'm using it as a router ......

Ordered and very excited! Replacing an old SFF which a really old chip in it - god knows how much power it was hogging.

The perfect Proxmox based Router/Firewall/Plex/NAS/Home automation server.

However single channel DDR4 might bottleneck the transcoding performance of the N100 (edited)

    Btw the N100 supports single-channel only & up to 16Gb officially ark.intel.com/con…tml

Been looking at these but I prefer the Ryzen version simply due to the fact it having 2 x m.2 ports and 2 ram
    slots
  12. mac.owens's avatar
I have one of these and it is great for Plex - but - the 2.5GbE ports don't perform at 2.5GbE speeds. I think there is an issue with the i226-v ports and I haven't been able to find a solution apart from using a USB Network adaptor
    Crossbow's avatar

Thanks for that, what speeds do they actually perform at & how does one measure this, at least reasonably accurately? (edited)

I've been thinking about getting a proper NAS set up for ages, currently I have a Plex "server" running from a normal USB HDD hooked up to my Shield TV, it's only a matter of time before that drive dies and I lose all my content. At the price it's a steal! Heat

I'm quite happy with my Synology DS124 drive but I really like the look of this and I like the idea that you can plug it directly in to your TV.

    It's a smart little device.

I'm confused, it's in my basket for less with no discount codes. Have you selected a different option?

OPs one is for 16GB / 512GB SSD. Yours says no memory / no SSD.

Not to be that guy but does anyone know if there's a 4+ drive version of this or similar available? I was looking at building something like this but would prefer something prebuilt honestly

You're not that guy pal. Trust me, you're not that guy.

Could this run Plex and be powerful enough for transcoding etc too I wonder?
    mrew42's avatar
    Yes it can.
I've got an n100 Trigkey 16GB/500GB setup and it does 4k with ease

Anybody seen any RAID capable DAS enclosures in this kind of form factor? I'm looking for something like this rather than the bare aluminium enclosures that seem to be the most common
  22. rehainc's avatar
Hello, would this run synology? Want to replace my DS118.
