You could just burn a disc and it would play. They quickly rectified that but as usual there was always a way round it.
No online firmware updates in those days
Then the full games, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Spyro, Tekken 3, Gran Turismo, Tony Hawks, Abe's Oddysee.
K, I'll stop. I can still hear the playstation logo screen so clearly.
You need to turn it upside down to get it to start reading the discs again.
Can this problem be fixed? (edited)
1995 - I installed my first CD ROM drive in my PC and was amazed at the opening sequence for Cannon fodder
1996 Installed my first modem in my PC and discovered the internet. (28.8 kbit/s)
1996 bought a PS1 and was amazed to see arcade graphics (Ridge Racer) on my home TV
1997 DVD players were introduced to the domestic market.
Or so my thumbs thought...
Memories
Reasons for a PS2. Nuff said
So back to the Xbox 1 days of requiring hacking to replace drives.
Gran Turismo and Tekken 3, hundreds of hours spent there
But love reading all the memories... (edited)

I have their Wii and GameCube ones and they're great.
Add into the mix an LCD screen instead of CRT and things become even worse.
Try playing 'classics' such as 'Tomb Raider' or 'Silent Hill' today as opposed to 2D games that have aged better and don't look so bad on an LCD.
I remember playing Resident Evil in 1996 and being genuinely scared whenever I heard the footsteps of a hunter. The age rating certificates were high for a lot of the games.
Then there was Wipeout with music tracks from Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers, and Orbital.
It was a very cool time for gaming and completely destroyed the Sega Saturn. It didn't stand a chance, despite having some decent games. It couldn't compete. Playstation was advertised and branded really well.
The PS5 by comparison is disappointing. Sony have really dropped the ball this generation. It's not delivering like the previous consoles.
mine is tomb raider
It had 250 games with it.
The games were very cheap at the time...
