The destination

In Malta, you can soak up the Mediterranean sun on stunning beaches like Golden Bay or Ramla Bay, where the clear blue waters invite you for a refreshing swim or snorkeling adventure. Explore the island's rich history by visiting UNESCO World Heritage sites like the ancient capital of Mdina, known as the "Silent City," or the impressive megalithic temples of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra. Don't miss the chance to wander through the charming streets of Valletta, Malta's capital, adorned with Baroque architecture and vibrant markets. For outdoor enthusiasts, hiking along the rugged coastline or diving into the crystal-clear waters to discover underwater caves and marine life are must-do activities. And of course, indulging in delicious Maltese cuisine, influenced by Italian and North African flavors, is an essential part of the experience.

Fantastic place to visit, it’s great to go across to Gozo on the ferry and visit Victoria as well as the walled city of Mdina on the main island and the interior of St John’s Cathedral in Valletta is stunning. (edited)

Having caught that flight a few times before from Birmingham, unless you are using fast track it takes over 2 hours just to clear security that time in the morning at Birmingham. So leave yourself way more that the suggested 2 hr arrival time at the airport. Also remember Ryanair are ruthless on boarding times and the 20mins before flight closing time is enforced to the second, have seen plenty of people turned away from that flight while we were still sitting in the waiting area ready for boarding. If you do manage to get the flight, it is well worth the trip as Malta has so much to offer anytime of the year.

Went through Bham at that time of a morning a week ago and it was pretty quick. They are trialling their new scanners which we were sent through. This is a Tuesday which I would guess might be a quieter day.

I know the inbound flight won't really be 3 1/2 hours but I assume the official schedule is arrive at 9:00 and depart at 09:25 which is a bit ridiculous for turning a plane around.

Great destination. Big problems with wait times to get through security at BHX currently due to renovations, so genuinely allow extra time to get through. Lots of articles in the press related to disruption and missing flights.

Ryanair has a load of cheap flights atm, if you open up the app and click on the £12.99 link, it brings up all the flights from your chosen airport. I've spotted decent flights and times from Belfast to Girona. Also Malta but with poor flight times.

My football team played Gzira United last July and we spent 4 days in the country. Absolutely beautiful place, beer was cheap enough €3, food was roughly UK prices, transport reasonable and the island is half the size of the Isle of Man so everywhere is cheap and easy to access. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Never had a problem with bhx security and don't fly from anywhere else after experiencing the Gatwick express nightmare and freezing my breasts off in a Manchester departure lounge. No thanks. Grand Central to bhx is 20 minutes and an hour through security.

Valletta is lovely, do it for a long weekend and stop there, the rest of Malta is a bit .......boring.

Malta definitely has nice bits outside of the city, some of them already listed in the 1st comment I believe.
