As one of your more cynical drinkers, I can offer my view that the nitro surge does exactly what it says, and does pour an almost perfect Guinness at home.

Also handy to mess about with other beers like Hobgoblin, and infinitely improves the BrewDog Honest Heart from a can.

I can add to this as being true.

It also works well on Camden Stout.

I even tried it on normal pilsners and it improves the head if you run it for a bit you get a frothy head!

Good device and a good price. Unfortunately the cans for it are massively overpriced.

Ok I've got this. And I can't see the big deal. I prefer normal draft Guinness cans. I do find though that it restricts the flow of liquid coming from the can, so that makes a less frothy pint.

Nope. Normal cans have a widget which on opening generates the bubbles. The nitro surge cans (twice the price) don’t and therefore this device is what makes it smooth.

Having tried both normal cans, nitrosurge cans (and normal cans with the pin trick) I can say you do taste the difference. You get a creamier better texture to the pint. Not enough for me personally to justify the extra spend but others love it and £2 a pint (at home) is cheaper than £5 in a pub. (edited)

Nitro surge cans come at a price, but brewdog black heart works equally as well and can regularly be found at a pound a van. Although do give a second thought to brewdog backtracking on the living wage

Do the black heart can need the pin prick trick? Does it taste and feel similar to Guinness, not tried one before.

Price wise you can get NitroSurge cans for around £1.66 per can if you shop around .. and they are the pint cans, not 440ml so you do get more beer.

These were £5.25 in Tesco Skegness last year, I foolishly thought they'd be reduced in all stores so left it till I got home, alas not.
