As one of your more cynical drinkers, I can offer my view that the nitro surge does exactly what it says, and does pour an almost perfect Guinness at home.

Also handy to mess about with other beers like Hobgoblin, and infinitely improves the BrewDog Honest Heart from a can.

I can add to this as being true.

It also works well on Camden Stout.

I even tried it on normal pilsners and it improves the head if you run it for a bit you get a frothy head!

I was hoping to find "rechargeable cans" but I guess we have to buy more. 😔

There's a pin trick hack on you tube works with non nitrosurge tins

Do they make Guineas taste like the pints in the pub
    ronson_a's avatar
I don't think it works on old coins?

Good device and a good price. Unfortunately the cans for it are massively overpriced.

    Pin trick

Just got mine from The Bar on the previous posted deal - it's clever and does give a nice head/settle, but I have to say I'm disappointed with the taste... Haven't compared with a standard Guinness can yet, but compared side by side with Belhaven Black (widget) the Belhaven is smoother and nicer - just a pity that Belhaven is expensive to buy in England (God knows why as it's Scottish). Nitrosurge definitely doesn't produce Guinness anything like the flavour in Irish pubs. Meh.

Ok I've got this. And I can't see the big deal. I prefer normal draft Guinness cans. I do find though that it restricts the flow of liquid coming from the can, so that makes a less frothy pint.

Do normal cans not work with this? (edited)

Nope. Normal cans have a widget which on opening generates the bubbles. The nitro surge cans (twice the price) don’t and therefore this device is what makes it smooth.

Having tried both normal cans, nitrosurge cans (and normal cans with the pin trick) I can say you do taste the difference.  You get a creamier better texture to the pint. Not enough for me personally to justify the extra spend but others love it and £2 a pint (at home) is cheaper than £5 in a pub. (edited)

Would be good if they had stock, it is like the cheap cans that have been posted.

Must have got lucky as my store had loads!

Nitro surge cans come at a price, but brewdog black heart works equally as well and can regularly be found at a pound a van. Although do give a second thought to brewdog backtracking on the living wage

Do the black heart can need the pin prick trick? Does it taste and feel similar to Guinness, not tried one before.

Price wise you can get NitroSurge cans for around £1.66 per can if you shop around .. and they are the pint cans, not 440ml so you do get more beer.

52639923-fF2Dj.jpgMarked up as £15 for nectar. But came up as £25 on till. Had to get them to reduce them.

These were £15 at launch so not a great deal

These were £5.25 in Tesco Skegness last year, I foolishly thought they'd be reduced in all stores so left it till I got home, alas not.

    Congratulations on your 1st deal
  14. digitaljunior's avatar
These are excellent for a proper pint but cans expensive

Just picked one up, thanks. For some reason the Nectar price didn't scan through at first so the cashier had to price it in manually.

    Gimmick ?

Not really it’s tech that actually works and the NS cans do taste a lot closer the real thing served in pubs

Tried twice in Sainsburys Wolverhampton and staff did not honour the deal...
