bought for my dad, he was amazed when we went to a cave and they had a VR show exploring some chambers not available to the public.

perksatwork offering 3% in points for e-gift cards. Quidco also 3% in cashback. Plus crypto debit card hopefully giving 4% back too. If all tracks it should cost me ~155.

Before I take it to my dad's I'd like to give it a go, mostly with my pc. Any recommendations on how to hook them up, software, games that maximise the effect (I imagine racing, half life alyx, superhot, alien isolation...) (edited)

    Pretty easy to be fair.
First thing you'll need to do is go through the initial setup process of the headset, of course. You can factory reset this back for your father after you've finished with it. The initial setup is actually quite useful. Power off the headset, and then hold the Volume Down button and power button. Select factory reset from the menu that comes up. You can power it off once the intro screen comes back on.

As for using it with your PC, there are two main options. The first is via the Air Link. You just toggle it on in your headset and it'll show you a list of any of the PCs you've got the Meta Quest Link software installed on. Once you connect to your PC with it the headset is then supported, wirelessly, as an VR device the PC. Steam, Meta's PCVR, itchio games etc will detect the headset as there.

The Meta Quest Link software is Meta's cross buy solution for when you buy a VR game on the Quest headset's store but also get a PC version as well. It also allows the AirLink to work.
From there you can view your desktop and run Steam VR or what ever other meta PCVR games you've got installed.

This is how I play my Quest 2 VR setup, with the PC upstairs and me AirLink'd to it downstairs.

The other option, and this is quite a new one is using Steam Link app. It's essentially the same as the Built in Quest's Air Link option, but it takes you directly into Steam VR for a more seamless experience if Steam VR is all you'll be using. You'll need to make sure you have store.steampowered.com/app…VR/ installed to get it connect though... and of course a VR game.

Keep in mind that ideally you need to use a 5ghz WiFi network on the Quest headset and ethernet on your PC. It will work on a 2.4ghz network but it'll be pretty much unusable.

Alternatively if you don't have the 5ghz wireless network you'll need a long USB3.0 cable. For a quality one they are kind of expensive if you're just trying it out.

It's going to be a little different navigating around in VR, but you'll get there. Have fun

Well thanks to Amazon refunding me twice for a retro handheld that I had, I picked one of these up for the equivalent of £60 quid

I can highly recommend Drop Dead: Dual Strike edition. Imagine House of the Dead but in VR. The most satisfying aspect, at least for me, is when you're grabbing new weapons from the other side of the room.

Holding your hand out and pulling the trigger as the weapon flies across the room in to your hand gives you major Jedi vibes

First Person Tennis is a laugh as well but might be better if I was actually any good at it.

Beat Saber is .. well, Beat Saber.

Wander is a great time killer. Basically google street view but in VR. Spent ages 'wandering' around the streets where I grew up.

Walkabout Mini Golf is VR Crazy Golf and very good.

Drunken Bar Fight does exactly what it says on the tin and is good fun.

Also got The Climb 2 but haven't played that all that much yet.

Just some of the games I've picked up since I got mine.

    Would also highly recommend superhot

My daughter asked for this for 10th birthday.. is this age appropriate?
    v1n's avatar
No, vr is bad for children, unfortunately. You can look up the studies. Wait till she is over 21, you can get her a steam deck in the meantime. (edited)

Is there big improvement with Quest 3 from Quest 2
    DaveW's avatar
Tried quest 2 a long time back and was impressed the , have just bought the 3 for my sons birthday, £405 from Very using cash back option, and it is immense.

cant really compare as has been so long since using quest 2, but the 3 blew me away , Beat sabre is amazing - could play it all day, Asgards wrath is brilliant.
only issue is battery drain, but understand can get battery headsets etc, and to be honest probably wouldn’t want it on face for over a couple of hours anyway.

When the previous John Lewis Meta Quest 2 deal was posted I didn’t have the discount code so I moved on but now I’ve got the discount so I may end up buying although other considerations are the Quest 3 or the Pico 4!
    ali254's avatar
PICO 4 is £270 on Amazon so another deal to be had
  8. sr_387's avatar
quest 3 is 4k lens so depends if you want to watch more movies and tv than just vr games etc if you search skybox vr is like cinema screen at home i watched dune 2 uhd on it .

Just got this delivered today but it has a Double Seal and not like the proper pull seal with cling from Meta.
I suspect a previous return as can see seal underneath has been cut.
    davidoriordan1's avatar
Mine arrived with a single pull seal so you may be right

Remember to make use of the referral scheme if you didn't yet have a meta account. Both you and whomever referred you get £23 of credit for the Meta app store.

I got referred by a friend and got myself beat saber for free 😁 (edited)

    Thanks Chanchi -

    I've bitten the deal @ £170.99 total

Good deal I reckon - not played with VR for time (Unless you count the Tomytronic from the early 80s)

Less than half the price of a Q2, bargain !

Yep last code didn't work for me but this one does
  21. Ross81's avatar
What sort of games are on these? I'm thinking racing, flight and football mainly - do I need a pc to hook it up to?
    moonspook's avatar
You can browse Meta's store here:

    meta.com/en-…es/

A PC isn't needed at all, but if you do hook it up (via cable or WiFi) you'll find you have even more options to play via games on Steam and the like.
  22. ClotBot's avatar
I don't have a PC but like the idea of getting one for more games. Any recommendations on spec to get a cheap one. Does the PC need the ability to run the games or is done by the quest and the PC is just for access to steam games?
    moonspook's avatar
Others will be able to recommend specs (rough guide - spend as much as you can afford!), but the PC will need to play the game - when hooked up, it basically acts as a Remote Desktop window to your PC, and your PC plays the game.
  23. TheGreatWave's avatar
Great deal! I added the carry case to make it £200 and was still £189 total!

    Code not valid for me
    apple21's avatar
I think you have to make it up to £200 with another item, im looking for something cheap to add now.

Cheers - worked perfectly. Used some work schemes and vouchers to end up paying a stupidly low amount so finally get to replace my old Oculus Rift.
  26. ISD2012's avatar
Brilliant thanks. I ordered it from Amazon at 179.99, but wasn't coming till May 11th. Now i'll be able to get it TOMORROW for almost £10 cheaper. Legend.
  27. thespiderpig's avatar
Bit the bullet, wanted to try VR for a while, thanks op.
Using work scheme to get a voucher cost me £164.63 :-)

    Hi which work scheme?
  28. Chrissybh0y's avatar
    Oooo luggage tags
  29. ourdave's avatar
doesn't work for me - Sorry, this promo code is invalid.
Put the case in the basket too, so it was definitely over £200.

Was going to buy it but the new Alien & Batman games are going to be Quest 3 only. Will hold off till Black Friday I think. But a good deal on this regardless!
    jenster18's avatar
If you don't have a Very account, you could via them, as a new customer you get 20% off, plus the free game (£45.99).plus six months of the meta + for free.
You can pay it over twelve months too., interest free.
If you already have a Very account, they have 10% cash back on the Quest 3.
Some people hate Very. I've never had an issue with them. Just thought I'd add in case you wanted one sooner.
  31. kisumku's avatar
    Ordered. Thanks op.
  32. codfishsteve's avatar
Bought. Thanks OP. Also bought a clone of the elite head strap from AliExpress for £10.60 including delivery and VAT - bought one previously and it was brilliant.
    MrFizzy's avatar
Could you share a link to that please?
  33. Ricz's avatar
Got a meta quest 3 instead because I had some gift cards lying around
  34. Varshil.Mehta's avatar
Thanks. Had 50 pounds gift card. Got it for 122. Superb deal.
  35. ngs's avatar
Thanks for listing; all fine at £170.99
  36. anuruddha's avatar
    Can we stack discount codes?
  37. SurenK's avatar
Is it worth buying for the person who is new to gaming ?
For return policy - it says that product should not be in used condition.
Not sure should go for it or not.
    Sp0oner's avatar
It reads if opened you won't get a refund so a very poor returns policy when buying online.
  38. rabbitmoon's avatar
Could someone who knows their gaming PC stuff please recommend what minimum system I'd need to use this to play Alien Isolation vr mod? That's really all I want to do. Thanks!

Be sure to look into side loading

Thanks very much. I bought it (as a Birthday present to myself) with the active pack for £30 (straps for controllers so they are secure on hands and waterproof face mask) as would have paid £30 just for the facemask afterwards anyway. I've since realised they have almost identical straps for the Quest 3 on Amazon for less than £10, which I've ordered as we bought the 3 several months ago before realising we don't get a look in as daughter is always on it. A good tip is that Smyths sell a Stealth VR case for £5 (unless price as has changed since I bought it) which is really good so I'll be getting one of those for it as well as the Kiwi comfort head strap.
