    Don't buy unnamed smart devices. After some time, those companies will disappear, their app will diesappear, then you won't even be able to connect to any new phones or networks.

    For example, the ANOOPSYCHE smart plugs posted here were quite cheap, but totally useless after a couple of years.

    A lot of the unbranded plugs etc use the Smart Life app from Tuya, which has been around for a while.
    But where do you draw the line at buying goods with no fear of being outdated or useless? If your phone no longer supports a minimum level of OS then it is redundent, and how much did that cost against a £6 plug?

    Best use I've found for smart plugs

    Christmas lights you can turn them all on and all off with one command (using Google home with Android)

    I can just add them to one group and turn them all on or off by setting up voice commands or using toggles in the Google home app (edited)
