    Frankly, I was quite inclined to go for this until I read about the "stringent 3 point check".

    What does that involve? Turn it on, touch the screen, turn it off?

    A few of these will have been returned because of faults rather than anything else. I'm not reassured and will wait for new prices to drop a bit further.

    I'm a complete noob so please don't be upset by this. I don't fully understand the purpose of these when mobile phones and smart watches have come so far in GPS/tracking tech. What does this do differently for it to be a compelling purchase?

    It'll be waterproof, is probably tougher and fits securely on handlebars instead of needing a shaky mobile phone mount. But a lot of us have old phones lying around which are perfectly capable navigation appliances when running something like Organic Maps.

    Not used one of these before so hopefully I can find and follow others routes without having to stop start as much with maps.

    C2C, Leeds Liverpool canal or a local jolly in the woods. Saying a ton too lots not to like.

    Kamoot can also offer a lot of ride suggestions. I normally never bother with websites like these but Its been great for finding great routes to ride in my area that I never knew existed.
