Tempted as my right bud on my 1st gen has started crackling ( tbf they lasted 3 years with daily use) , is this the best deal going if I don’t care about the Apple Music? (I’ve got the apple one premier subscription)

Brilliant price because of the 0% option but may have to take them back as the fit in the ear is rubbish, feel like they are going to fall out ☹️

It seems very good deal. What happens if you cancel your o2 mobile contract at some point ? Do you end up paying remaining amount for airpods ?

I don't have an o2 contract. This is a great deal. Probably with future inflation on the credit only paying about £140 in real terms.

    2nd or 3rd gen better?
    DavidLoPan's avatar
These are 2nd Gen AirPods Pro, there is a 3rd Gen AirPods available too that does not have the Active Noise Cancellation. Therefore, these are the better headphones.

As great as they are, my opinion is that AirPods Pros do not last for a length of time that reflects their cost. My opinion is based on the many user anecdotes online of them developing faults within 2 to 3 years (this includes the 2nd Gen). From my own experience, I have a set of AirPods Pro 1st Gen that have not worked properly for about 9 months, sadly I wasn't aware of the Replacement Program until it was too late.

For the money, there may be other longer lasting options available or it might be worth considering the Beats Fit Pro which use similar technology but are considerably cheaper.

How long have you had your pro 1’s? I’m looking at the mo as my standard Gen 2’s are starting to run out of juice on the right side. I’ve used mine continuously (nearly everyday) for over 2 yrs so for them to start packing up I kind of expect it, and probably no different from any charged device, batteries have an expiry.

My Pros 1 were given to me in Christmas 2020 but they didn't get regular use as I wasn't commuting due to COVID. After a year, people couldn't hear me on the mic unless I turned off ANC - but as it was out of warranty I didn't action it - as I wasn't aware there was a replacement program. Last year the cracking started and now the right one just dies while its in the case - Apple have admitted there is a manufacturing defect with mine but as I had presented them to the "Genius" bar outside of their 3 year window they won't replace them under the program. I'm trying to claim under the Consumer Rights Act as these were sold faulty.

But maybe I expect too much, Items selling for £249 or £229 as they now have dropped to on Apple's website should last more than 2 years even with regular use IMO - or at the very least, be repairable.

I too have had a very similar experience. My AirPods Pro 1st gen had all the symptoms of the repair program but as I didn’t report it till after, I’m apparently not covered. This is despite me trying to throw consumer rights at them, apparently I can’t “prove” the defect was there at the time of manufacture (despite the repair program )

If you got any further on getting yours repaired, please let me know  (edited)
