Forgot to mention, I know it will be asked: Weight 10.4kg according to the Cannondale website. And sizing chart:

Says it comes with a "Fabric Scoop Women's Sport Saddle"??

I noticed that, I think it's a mistake, everywhere else states it comes with the Cannondale Stage Ergoperson saddle.

If you search for the women's model it's the white and green variation with a more sloped top tube

Wheels or groupset would have been an upgrade, Allez is a really solid frameset.

As a minimum I would say you need :
    - Road bike (everyday)
    - Road bike (posh) for Sunday ride
    - Gravel bike
    - MTB
    - MTB electric
    - Hybrid Commuter bike
    - Brompton
    - Going to pub bike (cheap and don't mind if you ride into canal on it)
    - Fat tyre bike for visits to circus

Terrible store, part of the Sports direct and House of Fraser group. Expect no service and issues if it even arrives.

From the height chart I'm probably between the 56cm and the 58cm bike. Would you go down to the 56 or up to the 58 or is there another measurement that might be taken into account to help decide? Thanks.

Generally if you're in the middle go down a size for drop handlebar bike or a size up for hybrids/MTB.

Anyone know if a set of 'gravel' tyres would fit/work on this bike? Was tempted by the Vitus Gravel bike, but this looks a good deal if it would also work as a 'gravel' bike.

    Thanks

They look similar. The thing to look out for us clearance (ie. Maximum tyre width the bike will take). Road bikes tend to be quite narrow eg. 700x28mm.

Also road bikes have a more aggressive geometry than gravel bikes.

I'd you're going off road a lot maybe consider a hybrid or gravel bike, I like fatter tyres for comfort 700x32-35.

Voodoo do some good budget gravel bikes if you're interested too, check Tredz or Halfords.

That looks like a great deal, but I'm not sure I'd trust Evans at the moment

I've just had 2 bikes serviced at Evans and they did a great job. The customer service at 2 Evans in Manchester and the 1 in Stockport is brilliant.

    Thanks OP.
Arrived today. DX tracking was not valid. I called them Wednesday and was advised of a call, text, email. Nothing received but bike turned up today. Just an FYI if you’re still waiting. As soon as I called the lady asked if it was an Evans Cycle order.

The box was open, front deflector was broken and loose but no idea where it would have mounted anyway, assume on the handlebars but no clip so perhaps that fell out of the open box

I had the bike, a bag with pedals, a multi tool and manual. Should there be anything else? Just need to fit pedals and adjust handle bars and saddle.

No complaints by the way as doesn’t seem the most secure box.

    Thanks again.

That should be it. I usually remove all reflectors anyway.

I would upgrade the pedals immediately though! DMR V11 or Nukeproof Neutron are good I'd you want flat pedals.

Decent but for the disc brakes.....no place on a road bike.

Learn how to brake instead of relying on what the marketing men say.
    LaurenceGough's avatar
    LaurenceGough
Yes, who needs more efficient, better brakes that work in all weathers anyway? After all, it's much easier to just ride into the car that pulled out on you, stops you much quicker.

Whilst we're at it, why don't we make the brakes wear out the wheel rims so they need to be replaced rather than a cheap to replace brake disc purpose made for it? Genius! (edited)

Blimey, an actual decent bike at a not insane price! It's mad to think that a couple of years ago you could get Carbon 105 for £1000 and now it gets you Sora and an Aluminium frame.
    Def bargain in 2023 though.

Looks like a cracking bike. When I bought my 2014 Pinnacle Dolomite with Sora I was told by several people that they wouldn't ride anything less than 105 spec. In the 6000+ miles since I can honestly say that bar chain replacements and a single cassette replacement (preventatively done when I upgraded the wheels) the drivetrain hasn't needed a single moment of attention.

As for rim brakes vs cheap discs... I've got rim brakes on my road bike, cheap cable discs on my gravel bike and some nice avid hydraulics on my MTB. They all do a good job. Yes I can modulate the braking precisely with just one finger on the MTB but I don't need that level of control on the other two. What I do know is that when there is wet mud all over the roads it is so much nicer braking with discs than sanding down your rims with gritty rubber blocks.

Low grade disc brakes are probably the low point, but the rest of it will be decent. Sora is pretty rock solid nowadays.

Incredible price, great bike for the money. Personally, not my cup of tea because of the 28mm tyres, somewhat narrow tyre clearance (only takes up to 32mm?) and slightly more aggressive geometry (I prefer the Trek Domane). This is nitpicking though, probably because I've got enough bikes already.

All good, except it was setup by what appears to be an idiot...I mean for starters it had diff bar tape on each side.

Now does anyone want to buy a 2014 Shimano 105 CAAD 8??
  24. This.Is.Dog's avatar
    This.Is.Dog Author
    Very similar.

The Cannondale has a Shimano cassette and FSA crankset which I like.

The Vitus has decent disc brakes plus both wheels are thru axle.

I would personally buy the £100 cheaper Cannondale and if I had issues with the brakes change them, which is very simple to do.

But there's not a huge amount better them.
  25. bespokebicycle's avatar
    bespokebicycle
non thru axle wheels/frame on a £1000 bike? apparently old style quick release spindles and a shimano sora groupset is considered good value nowadays, just 5 years back you'd get a full ultegra equipped bike for similar money.. only option is to shop around and build your own bike up if you want true value.
    This.Is.Dog's avatar

I have built 20 bikes, I don't think I could build one even close to this price with those specs now.

Where do you buy your components from?

Still have my 1998 Cannondale Caad 3 9-speed Dura-ace with Spinergy wheels.

Not used much in past 15 years but still a great bike, made in USA too, actually bought in it Los Angeles.

Looks nice, but anything other than hydraulic disc brakes on the road is a pass from me, safety first
  30. Manauth's avatar

Another disadvantage of disc is thieves will go for them as they know the marketing strategy aswell so your disc brake bike is most likely be taken over rim brake

How would this bike compare to Rondo Ruut AL2 2022? BTW. I've found info on the shop that it comes with the Women's sport saddle? Is this a bike for ladies or a unisex?
    stevenstamps's avatar
    stevenstamps
The Rondo is an all out 1x gravel bike, this is far more suited for road with maybe the odd light towpath thrown in. I would ignore the seat, I think that is just a mistake on the website.

Anyone received their order as yet? The Evri tracking code which has been provided doesn't even work, yet I've received the other couple of things which I ordered alongside the cycle (on the same order, different Evri tracking codes)
    stevenstamps's avatar
    stevenstamps
Yep, mine just turned up this morning (not opened the box yet), like you thought the code didn't work. I called DX and they confirmed the order but said someone hadn't scanned it in...will report back later
