About this deal

Flat Iron and Denver steaks will benefit from a simple marinade first for a couple of hours and cooked quickly on high heat on the BBQ or frying pan, turning once and left to rest for 5-10 minutes. Much more beefier flavour than Rump imho

Looks similar to onglet steak or UK may know it as Skirt Steak......served in French fodder outlets, but must be cooked 'Flash fried(if going that way) - otherwise goes very tough..............we turn it into Beefburgers.......

Do they still do the, steak Saturday's thing and are these likely to be included?

They do, but these pre packed ones aren't included. This weeks Butchers counter steak offer is Sirloin £18.99 per kg + 20% off Saturday, so £16.19 per kg on Saturday

Not cheap for low end meat

Had the Bavette last night and they were excellent. I dry brined mine overnight. Pan fried for 2-3 minutes high heat getting a good sear(1 was very thick) Turned them and added fresh thyme, rosemary, garlic and butter and basted for 2-3 minutes then wrapped in tinfoil for ~10 minutes. Cut them into slices against the grain and they were tasty and tender.

    "Dry brined"? So salted, then?

Thanks for reminding me about these OP

When I last had them, I found Flat Iron to be much more tender than Denver steak, and with less sinew.

These are good quick steaks when there are no guests to judge the quality

What's Bavette and Denver steak like? Yet to find a cheaper cut (including flat iron and flank) that I've personally enjoyed as much as sirloin or rib eye, even if I go to the trouble of cooking it sous vide

just allow for the fact that simple marinades add flavour and unless have something else to break the protein down WILL not tenderise the meat. All real Chefs know that............

Not a true steak since it's not cut across the grain, these often disappoint on both flavour and tenderness grounds.

The Denvers used to be in the 3 for £10 deal, tiny roast chicken and some fish was OK for meal planning.

I found giving them a low and slow blast in the oven after a bit of a marinade then a quick sear worked best, with plenty of time to rest. Not sure if worth the extra quid now!
