Fine if you're an urbanite who never leaves the city. Hopeless if you ever venture out into the sticks.

Can't count the number of times I've had no signal with O2 whilst my wife and kids stood next to me have had full bars with EE and Vodafone.

I can't wait for my contract to end. Will never use again.

How do I get this as an existing customer ? My current contract runs out in two weeks
    itsadeal's avatar
Add to basket and it’ll ask if you have an existing sim and it’ll just upgrade your tariff then rather than posting out a new sim
  3. ashyt16turbo's avatar
£10pm now then a few months later they'll put it up.
    deleted531767's avatar
They can't increase it until April, which is clear in the t&cs.

But it's still O2, which is the main downside.

I keep commenting on these O2 deals about the awful awful coverage but it needs repeat warnings. The data coverage is absolutely ABYSMAL. It'll show 4g on your device but nothing loads, this is particularly the case in big cities and outskirts (Manchester is so bad) and most other places tbh. Also, signing up as a new customer with more than one SIM order will almost certainly send you down a hole of repeated credit check failures (they state it's failing a "business" check) no matter what you try, customer services are clueless about this and can't help you. Just a friendly warning before you end up stuck in a contract with them... I can't believe they're still getting away with it

Newcastle is excellent for me, been with O2 over a year to very little issue

This is a better deal ! Better than the £8 mth one as they increased it to £9.80 or so 🔥
    Jameseh's avatar
Just ‘upgrade’ to exactly the same plan you’re on after the % increase.

Leaving 02 this week, wouldn't go back if it was free

50792099-y8DTa.jpgTBH it would appear 02 is a VERY Marmite network.
There is very little consistency to their performance, and can vary wildly depending on where you stay and what you use it for.

I am gonna talk about my pros, on the 10GB (doubled to 20GB with Volt) £5 a month plan recently on here.

So not only does this give me double data for my mobile plan.
It also boots my virgin media broadband speed from the 500mb to the 1GB service for free!

Also having both services give you 02s roaming inclusive plan, that gives you USA, and Mexico roaming at no extra cost.

I'd prob say EE still have the best signal, but for £5 a month I can't complain.
  8. GrahamFairham's avatar
    Great deal, as always MrSwitch.

But as echoed by many check coverage. It does vary, I am fortunate where I am, but in some areas such as the SW & Midlands, it has been unusable.

Virgin, Volt etc.... Most people are probably aware of Virgin's legendary 🙃 service!

O2 have confirmed the following to me just now...

If you've already taken up the offer of disney with a £2/mo airtime credit and you buy another sim with six months free disney, your original subscription will pause and restart when your six months free is up. (edited)

Be wary that they don't have 5g in a lot of areas. I joined on the £6 deal but quickly exited for ID mobile which do 25gb for £6 with a 1 month rolling contract (Currys instore)
    deleted531767's avatar
No UK network has true standalone 5G, except for Vodafone in some areas.

These '5G' networks use 5G cell site equipment, but the core network those cell sites link back to is a 4G core.

You'll be waiting a very long time for proper 5G on O2. (edited)

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but is this directly through o2 or from a third party ie uswitch etc?
    Thanks

Through the link and log into account when it says new or existing customer, then asks u if u wanna upgrade number or want a new sim
  12. Yorks_Jambo's avatar
Does anyone know if this is new customers only or can you switch onto this as an existing customer?
    Mr.Plow's avatar
Apparently you can, every O2 sim deal including this one has reports of people changing mid contract, looks like it starts a new 12 month contract though.

    Edit.....better answer below (edited)
  13. uktez's avatar
No matter what I try as an existing customer I can’t seem to get this to work. Just vanishes from the basket as soon as I log in.
    pippyj's avatar
Same with me. Stuck on "alreadywitho2" screen.
  14. SlackAlice28's avatar
Does anyone know if this includes USA roaming?
    chamelion's avatar
    with volt, yes.
  15. d3fy's avatar
Just to balance all the noise. I have a Vodafone sim and O2 sim in my phone to compare signal and get some additional roaming data. I experience very very little difference.
    RazvanNeacsu's avatar
I have EE and O2 and I can say the same, when one doesn’t have any signal the other is the same.
  16. SomebodyXTheLine's avatar
Does the Disney+ membership need to be activated by a certain time? Wondering if I can get 12 months when I take out two contracts
    greenant's avatar
You're given so long to claim the o2 perk (in this case Disney+) from the day you take the contract out with o2. It might be 1 month, i forget now exactly. Been a year since i did this. But I highly doubt it would work in your case - fairly sure it's less than 6 months before you have to claim a perk!
  17. add1ct3dd's avatar
Just be aware of how the O2 network is by you. I've been in multiple cities small and large and there was no internet despite being on full bars. Awful network I'd not move back if you paid me £120 for the year.
  18. motosing's avatar
    Oh sugar!
I "upgraded" on Sunday just to get 3 more months of Disney Plus for free. Any idea if I can switch to this?
    Anne_Manson's avatar
I upgraded last Friday and was able to upgrade to this one 10 mins ago. So you should be able to.
  19. charlie.brown's avatar
I’m currently with tesco sim only mobile, that uses 02. reception and quite good where I live compared with other providers.
    1) So if I go direct with 02 should my reception change/improve?

    2) Could I use my phone for calls and my data when travelling outside Europe too as part of my package Eg USA/Canada?
    Thanks.  (edited)
    Littleguy's avatar
Just spoken to them about Q2.

It isn't included and would be £6 per day.

However, if you ask them nicely, then you can get 60GB for £14 a month which includes the travel add on. (They initially offer 30GB at £16)

This is the screen I see after clicking "I'm an existing customer" and then logging in:

    50795104-SPixF.jpg
Has anyone managed to get around this?
    greenant's avatar
Try signing into the o2 website first before going through the offer page. Then by the time you're sent to the o2 website it should stay in the basket. That's what just happened to me and i'm a current customer. Without logging in first, the offer vanished for me. Other factors why it might have worked for me - i'm out of 12 month contract commitment (its been over 12 months since i last did this offer) and i upgraded from £8/mth (pre hikes) to £10/mth tarrif.
  21. Bradleigh's avatar
Got the 30gb deal on Friday
Went through above link as existing customer and kept existing SIM card
I waited till my number was ported over and we hadn't chosen any extras in any of the 4 Sims
    Now on 60gb for £10 a month
    Cheers op 😁 (edited)
  22. ah99999's avatar
Damn I literally just 'upgraded' to 30GB for £15 (the offer above wasn't showing on my upgrade page) - but going through this link let me upgrade again to this offer. Thanks very much!
  23. sheely-wheely's avatar
I couldn't find a way to change my current tariff, so rang O2. All they could offer was 40gb for same price.

I tried this link again, then saved "my basket" and it sent link to my email address. I logged into MyO2, then clicked the link to my basket - this then gave me the option to change my tariff.

    Hope this helps someone else.

Just a question: is the Volt upgrade for free?
    I have broadband with Virgin.
    speedski's avatar
Yes. It’s free if you have. Virgin media contract - take out o2 sim and link the two via your o2 account

Great deal just such a shame O2 / Virgin dragging there heal on 5g in the south west Torbay especially
    spycat's avatar
As someone who works in the industry I can tell you that O2 are not investing in their networks anywhere near as much as some of the other networks.

EE is pumping the most money into 4G/5G upgrades from my experience.

It's an expensive project with each 5G antenna costing £40k+ and there is at least 3 of them on each pole.

It always makes me laugh how people comment on these deals that X sim provider are the worst ever when, in reality, it's all about the place they live.
    Phunk2's avatar
    Apart from o2, it isn’t.

Every built up area I’ve been to their data service doesn’t work as they’re so oversubscribed.

I can have full signal but the data simply doesn’t work. (edited)
  31. alicemcb's avatar
Cheers Mr Switch. Just doubled my allowance for an extra £2.00 a month.
    crazy_b's avatar
And I bet if you check you didn’t use half of the half you already had
  32. Turret-Buddy's avatar
I switched a few months back, signal is woeful, but I'm on WiFi 90% of the time. Worth it alone for the boosted vm speed!
  33. timetosurf's avatar

    Same.
  34. Teebee's avatar
As a deal it's great but as a company it's appalling.

I live in Slough 1.1 miles from the huge O2 headquarters and normally sit on 1 bar of 4G, if that's what I get the rest of you have no chance. If it wasn't for the insane deal I got from Virgin I wouldn't have swapped, when it expires i'm back to Vodafone.

Bro I'm in GX and same. Absolutely awful. Talk Mobile was much better. They won't let me leave also!!!!!!

Very bad network, don’t do it to yourself.
    Alpacacina's avatar
    worse than three?
  36. zwarder's avatar
Worse than three absolutely no internet connection at times, also people cannot contact me at times even on wifi calling, also have to have a mobile phone signal to get text messages, they will not work on wifi. Never had these problems with three network ever.
    Disappointing service (edited)
  37. samsmith66's avatar
Definitely o2 for me. Had EE before, tried Three as well, they can't match the signal. Three and ID mobile have the best deals for phones and SIMs but is is just a shame they are awful on signal reception wherevere I move 😁
  38. don74uk's avatar
I recently went for the £8 deal for 30Gb and was good to see this for £2 more to get double the data (in case I need it!).

I rang them this morning and they said it was a online offer only, but I could upgrade to it by following through the new order but then logging on as an existing customer and applying this offer deal it to my existing line. Just did those steps and it seems to be done. ✅
    uktez's avatar
No matter what I do and after a 90 min phone call with complaints and upgrades team as well as a live chat prior to that I still can’t get it. Any other tips because even when I follow your steps and have it in my basket, as soon as I click checkout and then sign in as existing it vanishes from my basket.
  39. FreakyGeek's avatar
So much data because you can never use it. Atrocious signal wherever you go.
    greenant's avatar
Must admit in the areas I've compared networks, o2 was nowhere near as fast as EE and Voda in every area I tried it (in West Midlands). If EE or Voda stopped mucking around with their offers I'd probably switch.

Just 'upgraded' my current O2 SIM only deal online and it worked a treat - I didn't realise with O2 you could change your package once a month....
