5-years old laptop with half the speed of a Ryzen 3. No thank you. Should be £150 max.

Dont forget these machines have been leased and used for up to 5 years in a corporate environment. Even if they look O.K. from the outside, internal components are old and worn. (edited)

While the CPU is indeed very important, this has 16gb ram and 512gb storage, a good screen, it is a business laptop and the build quality is good and there are some other positives. This is still a very capable CPU and I dont know what Ryzen 3 is twice as fast. I'm not saying this is a good or bad price, but IMO for £150 you'll be lucky to find something like this. (edited)

The problem with these refurb deals is you don't really know what the battery life will be, in terms of raw spec it looks good but that would put me off.

They're normally alright, think I've had six or seven and only one had a bad battery. Dell you can get fine replacement ones from Amazon for <£30 anyway, ten minute job to swap out.

No idea why this is so hot - the processor is from 2017.

Build quality is very good, form factor is good, so is the screen. The CPU is old indeed, but still decent, while the rest of the specs are quite up to date.

Even if the processor was better for gaming performance, that kind of enclosure would not provide adequate cooling and it would thermal throttle after a few minutes. It's just not aimed at that kind of activity

Used good to excellent condition on eBay for £120 to £200, most from refurb businesses that allow returns

    Battery life is very good

Display specifications for Latitude 7390Table 1. 13.3 inch(16:9)AG FHD WLED 300 nits eDP 1.3 WVA

I replied a bit earlier about the processor not meeting Microsoft's requirements, this was a load of rubbish because I was looking at the i5-8650 which I don't think was even a model.

imo a good price would be around £200. Voted hotter than it actually is.

I call this a deal, voted hot! Perhaps 10-15% cheaper is a more realistic price. (edited)

I’ve ordered one but now reading comments about battery life I’m wondering if I’ve made a mistake. I only want it for windows and video calls but of browsing. My old laptop is like a snail

Mine came to £266 though not £265 :/ (edited)

It will probably be fine, usually they are good for 3-4 hours. If not return it or get a replacement off Amazon for about £30, ten minutes to replace.

I have a 7490 (touch screen) with 8350 processor bought late last year for around the same price, and it is my daily workhorse (on it now). Battery life is only around 45m, but I haven't replaced it. Condition was good, performance good.

I love touchscreens so I've been looking at 7490s. Only concern is fan noise in my quiet location. Have you noticed your fan on much?

I have had a 7490 for years and it's still going strong. Really solid build and has survived quite a few drops. Fine for office work/surfing/streaming but note my battery also is down to about an hour. I'm not sure the 7390 has full size keys? I may be wrong but had a feeling the keyboard is more cramped than the 14 inch 7490

Showing as £306.56 + delivery costs now for the 256GB, looks like 512GB is OOS.

Edit: Checked 10 mins later and noticed a 512GB i7 .. so purchased. (edited)

A Ryzen 3 CPU in a current low end laptop will have at least double the Passmark Score, not to mention a much better iGPU. Also as this 8th Gen Coffee Lake CPU was released prior to the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerability announcement this will suffer a performance hit from all the patches and microcode updates.

Please supply an example. I am yet to find a low end Ryzen 3 with a CPU benchmark over 12000

Isn’t it a bit pointless to even quote the “gaming” for these machines. They re not meant for gaming. Those who have a rig won’t even look at such deals and those who don’t, keep wondering.

I just bought the 256gb ssd version for £312.56, im currently using a hp spectre x360 8gb ram with i5-6200, would you say this would be on par or better than that? I dont need it for gaming but I do use it daily, always on never switched off, its fairly fast most the time but sometimes browsing can be slow when I run too much. Any thoughts? or is there something better for £300? Thanks

I would avoid Dell Refurb now based on my experience.

The other week I ordered a Precision 3630.

It took nearly a week to arrive. When it did and I opened up the case, the sata connector on the 2.5inch ssd was snapped off, the P4000 graphics card was clogged with dust and it was missing the hard drive caddies in the expansion slots. I was willing to overlook all of this until 2 days later the mobo fan flagged up an error on POST (not good when running the system headless as a server). The fan in my old system was the same model number so I swapped them and the same error, so it must be the fan controller on mobo that was faulty. Again, wouldn't have been an issue for me but the fan was running at full rpm and very loud and using a lot of watts on my meter.

Called Dell who arranged to have it back (note, they don't do repairs like they state on their website) and offer me a replacement. The replacement was nothing like the spec I ordered so refused and was offered to wait 4 days for a new stock drop. I did this and last Thursday ordered a replacement of a suitable spec.

On Monday, I get an email stating there is a problem with the order and it is being cancelled. There are no other suitable desktops and I will be refunded. I am still waiting for the refund and they simply don't reply to emails, ever. If I don't get the refund by tomorrow I will invoke S75.
