Excuse me for inexperience regarding using these devices. I have many games in my Steam; Epic games libraries e.t.c. How do I download these games to a device like this... (edited)

The same way you would with a pc, it's literally a pc but in a handheld form factor.

Download the app/ launcher for each service login and away you go. (edited)

For those on the fence, I tried this, steam deck and ROG Ally. For me, the steam deck is less comparable owing to its unique OS. Between the Go and Ally, the Go has an amazing screen, but its a really bulky handheld. Was not a fan of the controllers either, and speakers could not compare with the superior Ally. Although you wouldn't notice in isolation. Ally has worse batter life. For me, the best combo is a device with:

ROG Ally for: speakers, VRR, size and portability
Legion Go for: battery, 2 USB-C ports and screen size

This is being picky though, to be honest, they are all good devices.

Does the Go not support VRR? If not, is there talk of it getting it later?

Added heat thats a great price.

Got the Legion Go through Very for xmas pressie for the Mrs. We were on the fence between the Ally and LeGo as steam deck to me is not an option, as we have gamepass, loads of games on Epic and Steam games, GOG and others.

Reasons for getting Legion Go over Ally or Steam Deck:
8.8" screen was a must and the colors are gorgeous and way better on the LeGo than on Ally. This was by far the main reason for us.
EGPU support is better on the Legion GO with the fact that you can plug in any TB3-TB4 supporting EGPU vs the Ally that has the proprietary very expensive Asus Egpu.
2 USB-C ports helps with the above as well if you have a diy EGPU where you need to charge on one port and use the EGPU on the other port. Plus i think 2 USB-C is what should be for windows devices if not more.
    Actual functional great kickstand.
The detachable controller even though quite niche - is quite usable as the Mrs plays Sims on her lap with it without having to plug a dock and a normal mouse. Literally detaches the controller, put on FPS mode and she is ready to play. For her to do that with ally she would have to have a dock with a stand as the Ally has no stand
Doesn't fry the Micro SD card - Ally was notorious for this issue not sure if it is still the case though but didn't want to risk it.
    Has a touch pad!
Multifunctional device, can use portably or docked as gaming device, or browse the internet, watch movies, can be used as full fledged PC. You can say the others can do as well but this if you detach the controllers is literally a tablet.
I was worried that missing VRR would be sucky but so far in any game we tried we haven't seen screen tearing so not a big deal that its missing VRR. Also for others because the 1600p resolution is hard to drive so don't expect loads of games to play in the resolution, dropping to 1200p or 800p is not a problem. I hate going 800p in this day and age games look ugly to me though so 1200p and 1600p is nice to have. With Steam Deck you are stuck at 800p.
Streams the Xbox no issues at all, got also the XBPlay app (better Xbox cloud gaming than the Xbox equivalent app) and gets a lot of usage through there.
Lenovo so far is pushing updates relatively often which is a plus while other companies are not as supportive (Aya neo and other Chinese brands)

We mostly use this plugged so its always with the custom full power 30w mode to get the full power.
Battery on this thing is not the best and Steam Deck would last longer if that is your thing. I would still get a hefty power bank and use this over the Steam Deck though.

Some things i will note though:
This is not a console like experience meaning plug and play. Its a windows laptop to be held on your hands.
When you start it for the first time it goes through the Win11 installation process with all the crappy Office apps and what not that MS is trying to get you to subscribe to. You don't need onenote or ppt on this device if you get it for games. You can add them later if you want it but should not be preinstalled.

Took me quite some time to set it up the way we want it and you have to tinker with every game to get best settings setup and best fps etc, as you would in any laptop/desktop.

Thermals are not the best on this device, i think the Ally is better on that aspect.

SSD upgrade wise is easy to do but needs researching as there are not many choices on the 2242 form factor those are quite expensive and some are not properly compatible due to the layout Lenovo decided to do. It should not use double sided SSDs for example because they will bend the wifi chip, but some users have done so regardless. Could go for 2230 form and a bracket, but they go quite hot. The Ally you can easily upgrade it with a 2280 one i think. You could do something like that here but that would involve you get a custom backplate that sets the ssd behind the battery etc.

Speakers are top firing and by default the equalizer is set really badly. There are some youtube videos and posts on the LegionGo reddit where users found better settings and sounds way better now, I applied this on ours as well. It wont be as good as the Rog front facing firing speakers but its not as tinny as it was when we got it.

Its a heavy device, quite bulky and controllers are not the best feeling wise so if you are used to Switch or PSVita sized devices this will feel quite chunky to you so would the Steam Deck though.

Ideally i would have liked a bit more GPU power but the mrs wanted a portable device to play her games so had to get something.

All in all Rog Ally and Legion Go have the same CPU and integrated GPU, if you want a windows device either should be good.

Apologies for the essay i can keep going hehe, might be useful for someone who is on the fence.

I've been holding onto a 20% off voucher (account specific) very sent me last month waiting for the price to drop so I managed to get it for £525 with next day delivery.

No idea whether I'll make good use of it but been looking at this device for months weighing up whether to buy one or not but finally succumbed. If nothing else I can transfer my retrobat setup for portable emulation

You can find RoG Ally for 200 cheaper so I don't think this is a deal

There’s no need to get heated about this - girls will still think one looks like a virgin irrespective of which handheld one has.

I think with the snapdragon elite X dropping, we are a year or 2 away from absolutely dominant handhelds
I would buy a (cheap) steam deck and wait

This could be the era where we replace PCs completely

whats the performance difference? fps wise u reckon?

Mine arrived today. Manufactured date was Dec 23. No controller wobble and fans don't seem too bad even at full speed. I've followed a YouTube video to improve the sound quality of the speakers and spent the evening setting up windows how I want it i'll play around with handheld companion and 86 tuning utility tomorrow and hopefully get round to playing something on it! Screen is amazing on this thing too. Very impressed so far (edited)

Anyone used virtual box on these for a MacOS?

I've got a Rog ally, tempted to sell it for the bigger screen on the GO? Anyone else done this or opinions if it's worth it, probably get up to £400 for my Rog. It's only 6 months old.
