Corn whiskey is intrinsically linked to the history of the USA and its pioneers’ thirst for discovery. Corn whiskey has been made since the very first days prospectors set foot in Kentucky.

In the late 1700s, the westward expansion of America was encouraged by giving acres of land to settlers who ventured west and planted a crop of corn under the 'Corn Patch and Cabin Rights' law. Corn grew abundantly in the fertile land, and the excess that couldn't be eaten or traded was distilled into whiskey. Corn whiskey is the forerunner to Bourbon as the style of whiskey we know as Bourbon had not yet been invented.

For European settlers who were used to distilling with barley or rye, the corn-spirit they made was sweeter than the whiskeys they were used to drinking.

The designation means it is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV), is a minimum of four years old, is the product of one distillery in one distilling season and is aged and stored in a federally bonded warehouse under US government supervision.
