DISCOVER CORN WHISKEY
Corn whiskey is intrinsically linked to the history of the USA and its pioneers’ thirst for discovery. Corn whiskey has been made since the very first days prospectors set foot in Kentucky.

In the late 1700s, the westward expansion of America was encouraged by giving acres of land to settlers who ventured west and planted a crop of corn under the 'Corn Patch and Cabin Rights' law. Corn grew abundantly in the fertile land, and the excess that couldn't be eaten or traded was distilled into whiskey. Corn whiskey is the forerunner to Bourbon as the style of whiskey we know as Bourbon had not yet been invented.

For European settlers who were used to distilling with barley or rye, the corn-spirit they made was sweeter than the whiskeys they were used to drinking.

BOTTLED-IN-BOND
The Bottled-in-Bond designation is steeped in more than a century of American distilling heritage and is still one of the most regulated spirits categories in the world. The designation means it is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV), is a minimum of four years old, is the product of one distillery in one distilling season and is aged and stored in a federally bonded warehouse under US government supervision. The quality of this product is government certified.

Bottled-In-Bond Whiskeys are gaining renewed notoriety among aficionados and mixologists for their historical importance, unique product attributes, assured quality and robust proof.

American corn whiskies are a distinct class of American Whiskey related to Moonshine. They are generally quite sweet - a bit popcorn in flavour.

I picked up a bottle of the MoM 13 year and it is rather tasty (It was also when they had one of the Quidco 30% cashback offers).

$15 bottle of whisky in the US. In a country that produces the finest whisky in the world, this is utter gut rot for £30 🤢 (edited)

£30 is too steep, I agree, but have you tried it before? Definitely not gutter rot unless you've got a strong aversion to sweeter bourbon-type whiskey. The bottle looks cheap and all, but it's really not a cheap(aka harsh) tasting whiskey.

Picture the rustle of the ripening corn and sipping this to the sound of banjos and the frantic dip of paddles

The imagery is understandable, but seriously, if you ever taste it, it's something very different than you'd probably expect. Not rough or harsh, but SWEET. Not liqueur sort of sickly sweet, just a very natural sweetness. It's good.

Mellow Corn usually sell in USA for around $18-$24.99, and the maker is Heaven Hill’s Distillery and is not the importer but a company called Marussia Beverages UK LTD then add UK duty of £11.07 and UK VAT of £6.10 from £30.49 price

    UK Duty of £11.07
UK VAT of £6.10 from £30.49 price
    = £17.17

So £13.32 is whats left to be shared between

Heaven Hill’s Distillery (maker): profit %, minus cost of making (4 years) and bottling.
Marussia Beverages UK LTD (importer): profit %, minus cost of importing & logistics.
Amazon (Seller): profit %, minus selling and warehouse logistics and delivered free. (edited)
