Total newbie at this, I'm considering buying this but are games download and their cost? Anything included? Adds on essentials?

    Many thanks (edited)

Lots of games, ranging from free to £40+, but most are are less than £20 still.

I would recommend a replacement headstrap, the stock one is not fit for purpose (especially if you're going to wear it for long periods of time. For £20 you can get a good third party strap.

Battery lasts about 2 hours on a full charge, but I use a 20,000mAh powerbank plugged into the headset while I'm playing to extend playing time. I just run a USB C to USB C cable from the headset to my powerbank in my pocket.

The guardian works well to stop you drifting to the edge of your play area, but I suggest using a small bath mat in the middle of you play area to keep you centred (you'll feel with your feet when you move off it). (I use a bamboo mat which rolls up easily when I'm not using it).

If you're planning on taking to other places to use (or show off ), i recommend getting a case. You can get one pretty cheaply now the Q3 is out (Q2 accessory prices have dropped a bit now).

There are sales on titles quite regularly, so if you're not in a rush to get a title, it might be worth waiting for the next big sale (Easter will probably be the next one, followed by summer)

Do you need a Facebook account still to use oculus?

    No.

I wouldn't have touched one if you did.

Got the MQ3 and it's the dogs danglies.

What's the minimum age this should be used by ? My boy is 9 and loves going on my psvr2 but I always limit his time to 10 mins with him being so young I don't want to mess his eyes up. Obviously with this being more wireless than the psvr2 I've thought about getting this for him to use instead as it doesn't need the main tv or to take up the living room.

I've said this elsewhere here, but I'll repeat it so you see it -

It's less the eyesight problem, more of a balance development issue. Static experiences should be fine, or moving slowly in an area, but high action body movement games could be a problem.

Also some experiences can induce motion sickness - even for experienced users - usually settings can be changed to avoid this, but not always.

On the plus side, plenty of educational experiences on the Quest, I use it with my 9 & 12 yr olds - supervised of course, and usually no more than 15 mins. I usually chromecast it to the TV, so I can see what's going on and assist as needed. (edited)

If you have the extra few quid go for the Pico 4 , much better for racing games if using with a PC. Much higher resolution.

A steal at this price. Brilliant fun. Go for it anyone who is unsure.

I agree - we've just got the Meta Quest 3 for our 10 year old and I wish I had my own one. (edited)

Worth it for walkabout mini golf alone!
    ElliotLewis's avatar
Absolutely this, I've got loads on there I've barely touched because every time I load it up, 1 quick round of golf becomes my entire play session.

New to vr setups, could this be used playing racing games like F1 23?
I already have a decent spec PC that handles 1440p, but would this work?
    Parappathepappa's avatar
The Quest is primarily a stand-alone VR device, no PC necessary. It will also connect wirelessly to play PCVR games - not done that personally though (my PC doesn't have gaming PC power).

Game needs to support vr. Not sure about F1 2023 but Assetto Corsa is decent in VR

    Quest 3 lite coming soon…
    Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
It's been "coming soon" since before the Quest 3 was released

And if the rumours on it's spec are true (using chips that failed the Q3 quality standards), I would wait on reviews from users before buying one. Have they said if it's being shipped with controllers now? (At one point they were saying it wasn't having controllers with it)

Pico 4 worth getting if you already have a psvr? Was gonna buy a PSVR2 but looks like Sony have already given up on that system
    yhyhyhyhyh's avatar
It's worth getting the quest 3.

Got my wee boy (8year old) one at Xmas. He's on it every day best thing he ever got lol

If this isn't a troll, you should google effects of VR on young children. It may be the case that it causes eyesight problems.

Great pickup this! Would recommend Border Bots if you're new to VR, and Resident Evil 4 if you can get used to the motion sickness

I'm over 6 hours in on RE4, It works so well in VR.
